  • oil and filter changed........ 26 Nov 2002 (Forum)
after my recent post about the tappets rattling on my mondeo, i have done an engine flush using Wynn's engine flush, fitted a new oil filter with non-return valve and changed the oil to Magnatec 5w/30. The rattle has died down a little but no too much, Does this mean it is must now be down to the tappets themselves?.........or self adjusters.
  • Nissan Almera - Nissan Almera Oil Service 16 Nov 2011 (Forum)
There are many makes of oil on the market so check the API / SG rating on the container.  Always changed the oil filter together with the sump oil.  A tip for you: when you change the oil filter: prime the oil filter with a lick of oil inside the filter to moisten the filter before fitting.
  • Skoda Octavia II (2004 - ) - 2007 1.9 Oil and filter change 29 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I've just P/ex'd a 7 y.o. Citroën Picasso 2.0 HDi for a 2007 ?koda 1.9 TDi ex demo with 11k. I religiously changed the oil and filter on the Citroën every 10k and used fully synthetic Total Quartz 9000 throughout. The engine used no oil between changes and ran sweetly for all of its 96k. - The Picasso was a blooming good car, very little went wrong.
  • Oil changes 18 Oct 2001 (Forum)

  • vw 1.9dsg 7speed - dsg oil change 21 Mar 2014 (Forum)
I have had various discussions with VW franchise  re 7 speed dsg. From this I am told that my vw Golf Plus 1.9TDI DSG 2009 model does not need an oil change as it does not have a gearbox sump plug ( according to the local franchisee!) so they cannot drain the oil. Despite the fact that they keep sending me notifications to get my oil changed.(now at 40,000 miles).
  • Skoda Felicia- which oil ?? 6 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I have booked my mother-in-law's 1998 Felicia 1.3i into National tyres for an oil change tomorrow. It was last changed last summer when she had it serviced, the oil looks clean enough. It is only a basic engine, should I tell her to put their multigrade or their sem-synthetic oil in???
  • VW Polo - Long life oil changes 24 Aug 2018 (Forum)
I have a new VW Polo due for its first service at 10k miles on Wednesday. They set it up for 10k servicing even though I do 25k miles a year. On Wednesday they will do the oil change and then a major service at 20k miles. Should I move to long life servicing after 20k miles? Is there any evidence that 20k oil changes are too infrequent? I ask as servicing is a pain, it means half a day taken up.
  • 2005 Volkswagen Polo 1.2 (9N) - Manual Gearbox Oil Change Interval 11 Apr 2015 (Forum)
Does anyone know if there is a set interval for changing the gearbox oil? I've had the car from new and it has just over 129000 miles on the clock. The gearbox oil has never been changed as far as I know. I'm not having any problems, I was just wondering as other engine fluids have a set renewal interval.
  • oil change using syphon 25 May 2003 (Forum)
As the plug remained in place and oil tight i wondered if it might be best to leave well alone and change the oil via a dip stick syphon device that I remember seeing somewhere , but the tone of a reply to a previous query on the back room intimated that these things or this method was in some way inferior to draining the sump via the plug .
  • National Oil Change? 6 Apr 2021 (Forum)
Has anyone had experience of these offers for a Diesel. I ask because it's 6k change time on my Mondeo TD ( 97) and for the price they charge it's not worth me getting the overalls on. £15 for Hypergrade or £20 for Semi Synt QXR ( Duckhams ?)BUT are these oils suitable for a Diesel?
  • Hyundai i30 - Hyundai first oil change 30 Oct 2014 (Forum)
I bought this car new in France in February 2013 and I am very pleased with it, however, in the handbook it says the first service is on 30000km. The oil looks very black, should I have it changed or wait till the service?
  • Fiat panda gearbox oil change 6 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I wish to change the gearbox oil in my 3 year old fiat panda. I can't seem to find a drain plug. Does this require a drain via the fill plug? Any suggestions welcome. Dr S.
  • Oil Changes 28 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I wonder why oil change intervals vary so much. In the USA they tend to be quite short as well. My Renault is scheduled for 18K which I think is too long. I've had it done at 8K and on the advice of one RTE, I'm thinking of having it done every 6K.
  • Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec auto 2003 - Changing the engine oil and filter. 18 Feb 2020 (Forum)
I am going to change the oil and oil filter. Last year I used semi synthetic 5W/30 ACEA A1/B1 WSS-M2C913-B  I have 5L of synthetic 5W/30 ACEA A3/B3 WSS-M2C913-B Is this ok to use?
  • N/A - 1000miles a year oil change 1 Oct 2018 (Forum)
I despair HJ Agony column today advising a OAP to get his 5yr old car oil changed every year.  The oil is probably as clean as the day it went in there with this sort of use.  The car obviously needs an annual MOT so feel sure that this would cover any safety contingencies for him.
  • Astra Oil changes 14 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I have a vauxhall astra 1.6 (8 valve version), 2001. I am currently using a ordinary oil, and wondered whether I should be using the synthetic or semi-synthetic. With using the ordinary oil am I damaging the engine? I do however change this every 6,000 miles. I have seen a discussion thread on the site but cannot find it.
  • Is it wise to use 4 year old oil 15 May 2006 (Forum)
Shortly I am going to change the engine oil in my Polo 1.4 tdi pd and I have two similar questions regarding this job. First I have an unopened 1litre bottle of the special 500.01 oil that was in the car boot when the car was bought new four years ago, will this oil still be useable if I mix it with some new oil when I do the change or would I be asking for trouble doing this.
  • Suzuki Ignis II (2003 - 2007) - 1.5 Sport - Oil change and oil related question 28 Oct 2007 (Forum)
As I am very satisfied with it (very reliable and drives extremely well), I intend to keep it another 3 years then will part-ex it (it will not be worth much in 3 yrs time but never mind). 1) Does it need an oil change now? (HJ often advocates an oil change every 6 mths after the 1st year, am I right?). If so, would the filter need changing? 2) The oil level at the moment is between low and full (I have never added any oil in the engine, has never needed it between services).
  • Ford fiesta - Changed my oil once in ten years (and 80k miles) 29 Jan 2025 (Forum)
I've written about it a few times here in the past but thought I'd give an update since I keep getting oil warnings (they pop on for one second then disappear). My ex owned this car for 5 years before me and I've owned it for about five years since. She never changed the oil. I've changed it once and topped it up once.
  • oil change myths 6 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Like how come I run a TDI Galaxy to 206,000 Origionally on tractor oil being Case No1, changed every 5000k, with proper Knect filter then somewhere about 100,000 miles changed to semi synthetic, no particular brand, bought at random, to VW spec from motor Factors & changed every 10,000, with filter as above( maybe a Framm filter bytimes) Its a 110 tweeked to 125bhp i am diligent about checking the dipstick and topping up A wee drip due to a crankshaft oil seal Origional injectors & head gasket & exhaust too OK #Back to polishing my Halo
