Jaguar X type 2.2d Automatic - Turbo Charger Actuator 22 Oct 2014 (Forum)
Took it to Jaguar who gave fault code P132B and quoted £1500 for new turbo, actuator and waste gate. I had the turbo charger actuator reconditioned for £240 and all was okay until after about 150 miles (not continuous) of driving the faults came back. The company who reconditioned the actuator took it back free of charge and identified the output motor was not correct and changed it. -
VW - How best to pay for my new vehicle? 30 Apr 2014 (Forum)
The company I am buying from is established and reputable and I have absolutely no evidence of any difficulties they may be in. However, what if something goes wrong between now and when I drive it out of the gates? Section 75 of the credit act covers purchases up to £30000 so even though I paid the deposit by credit card then it doesn’t apply. Section 75a covers up to about £60000 but I’m not sure that applies in my case. -
ford focus estate tdci 115 03 - rough running focus that garage cant explain! 7 Nov 2010 (Forum)
my focus started playing up about 4 months ago so i took it to my local garage to get the ecu read. the fault stored said the waste gate solenoid was at fault and so changed but this did not solve the problem. 4 months on and they still dont know what is wrong. it starts and runs fine for about 2 mins but then runs lumpy and rough and will not rev past 2000rpm and kicks out a hell of alot of smoke as a result. if it is switched off and restarted straight away it will run fine again for a few mins and then starts running rough again. i suspect injectors but it is an expensive trial and error, and have lost faith in my local garage. -
Peugeot 207 (2006 - ) - 08 1.4 Accident repair paintwork problems 28 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Hi all I am hoping to get some advice from some experienced professional painters out there. I recently scrapped the side of my car on the gate post and used the insurance companies approved repairer to get it sorted. The car has come back and i'm not happy with the paintwork. Along the bottom of the door, the paintwork had a dry and uneven appearance (it was glossy but with an uneven surface which you could feel). -
Renault Espace (1997 - 2002) - 2002 2.2dci - Tailgate jamming 2 Aug 2008 (Forum)
All electrics are AOK as all the doors and rear tailgate window unlock and relock on the plip key. I would love to take the rear panel off the tail gate but to do that I need to open it !!! Incidentially those avid readers of Espace Diesel problems will remember I reported "limp" mode last summer. I am delighted to report that I have had no further trouble since I changed to the expensive diesel and occaisonally rev the engine to the limiter in 1st gear. -
Peugeot & Citroen cooling fan motors 11 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I am talking about a 1999 306 1.6 petrol, but there seems to be lots of PSA models covered by these parts. The two types are either GATE or ECIA. Even the main dealer asked which type were fitted to my car (some help the chassis number is to them!) Does anyone have "chapter & verse" on this issue? Are the drive shaft diameters the same (so I don't end up having to buy a new fan blade also)? -
Is this a road? 8 Mar 2005 (Forum)
My neighbour some years ago paid our local council to provide a concrete ramp from the road to her rear garden intending to replace the fence with a gate and park her car off road. She never did this, but the ramp is still there. Her son in law parked his van on the concrete ramp prior to taking his family to Australia for a year, having completed a SORN notice and intending to return and continue his carpentry business using the van. -
My next car ... 28 Apr 2004 (Forum)
I don't want to sell the Synergie privately, I am not comfortable in a Mondeo and I will only have another Volvo if the gates of Hell freeze shut. What other cars would you knowledgeable folk have me look at? Hawkeye ----------------------------- Stranger in a strange land -
Citroen C3 - bad experience with mechanic 3 Apr 2010 (Forum)
When she got back she said he'd had to swap the tyre in the boot with the front left as the front left was damaged due to the broken spring but a new inner was put in it and everything was ok. She also told me she reversed into the gate on the way out as the yard was packed with cars and the gate was half closed and noone was there to help. She said the owner then guided her out but instructed her to reverse into the gate again (lol) but it wasn't bad and the owner said it was hardly noticable. -
Crossland X - Gearbox linkage problem 23 Sep 2021 (Forum)
This is an intermittent problem, but it makes me nervous to drive it when starting off now as I am never sure if it's going to fly back! A mechanic friend has suggested it has a linkage issue or the gate between reverse and forts sometimes stays up. Can anyone shed any light on this please? I -
635 - Old barges 29 Aug 2011 (Forum)
For a such a huge floorplan, the actual cabin isn't huge-and it's strictly a four seater. The dog leg box was apalling-long throws and vague gates-maybe it was just worn. I doubt the handling was much to write home about. We weren't pushing it hard. The clock can't be turned back, but for a little while it was nice to pretend! -

Car Park Management 17 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Finally there is one user, who has the spaces for members of the public who are clients (he is a physio) so needs easy access. Any ideas for improving the matter without spending fortunes on electronic controlled gates? -- Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive? -
Astra Ecotec Cam Belt Failure Info 12 Jun 2002 (Forum)
Although I am replacing them anyway, the tensioners, water pump etc are all OK with no play or noise in them. Point of the story is, like David W's job, these belts made by Gates for Vauxhall/Opel are suspect as well. As the engine was running on the later modified parts it seems that the belts are letting go now instead. Has anyone else experienced a similar scenario and, more importantly, did they get anywhere with Vauxhall? -
has your car done you proud? 26 Jun 2003 (Forum)
One day I had a skip (midi size- ones about the size of your normal car) and the driver could not steer the truck into my drive so left it of the left hand side of my drive gate. Then surprise-suspire, within microseconds, the said neighbour comes out saying that in order for him to get into his drive he has to ?bank? on the side of the road on my drive to get clearance on his entrance and that the skip was blocking his way although the skip was on my side of the road!!. -
Hyundai i10 key fobs 23 Sep 2022 (Forum)
All ok, my wife comes to car with her keys in a shoulder bag, she opens door to put few things in, then walks off to open gate. As soon as she walks off, the car sounds a buzzing type sound and on dashboard it says "key out of car" I know, you think its battries, but didn't manufacturers have a way to send a signal to keys, get a code reply without battries? -
Vectra 2.0 DTI power problems 24 May 2022 (Forum)
This stays and pulses about every 3-5 seconds. when accelerating through the gears there is a hesitancy above 3500 rpm but it pulls well up to that point. It feels almost like Fuel starvation or a fuel supply problem, another hypothesis is a waste gate which is opening at too low a pressure point and then closing again. Vauxhall dealer has done a diagnostic on it and identified the mass airflow sensor and turbo pressure switch needing replacement. -
Vectra 2.0 DTI 16V Low Power 18 Mar 2014 (Forum)
It is very hard to pull away from roundabouts with any speed and it is sluggish in all gears. In have checked all the common faults like the vac system, egr and all the solenoids and piping, the turbo and the waste gate solenoid are working ok. I have stripped the inlet manifiold and cleaned the variable valves.Ihave also cleaned the air flow meter but with no improvment. The car has just passed the mot and when smoke tested it was well under the pass limit which makes me think the fuel pump is not delivering full fuel, is there any way to test these fly by wire pumps without selling my house and using a vauxhall dealer as it seems with these engines they have no idea what is wrong when the ecu light is not on.If anyone can shed some light on the problem please let me know as apart from low power the car is great. -
Recent Crash, Help wanted ref Insurance Co, please 30 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Hi, this is my first post and I come here looking for advice please: Recently the wife was involved in a five car shunt you know the sort of thing. She's second, but has sustained damage to rear tail gate (unable to open currently) and a bash in the off side door where she crunched another driver. Anyway we are fully comprehensive, have legal and protected no claims. My question is this. Because the car is over ten years old, (very low mileage, very well looked after, lots of life in the old car yet), I have this feeling the Insurance company are going to try and write it off. -
Left in the lurch 31 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Dropped my car off this afternoon at local independent for an MOT, and since I would be tied up at the airport 1/4 mile up the road until 10pm, I arranged for them to return the car to the airport and drop off the keys at the security gate. Phone call an hour later to say it failed on the driveshaft gaiters (both sides cracked... hmm) and that it'll be £150 to fix - if that's not completely excessive I don't know what is!), and I reiterated my request that the keys are left with security. 10pm this evening and I found the car snug in the car park.
