Surge in second-hand CRVs for sale 19 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I can only assume it is because of the tax hikes and/or the fuel? Anyone else noticing this? Btw, I haven't checked other 4x4s in my area. T. -
2001 mondeo tddi problem 28 Oct 2005 (Forum)
can any one advise or help, i have a 2001 mondeo tddi with 173,000 ( its a taxi ) after being in traffic or continious driving my car starts to jerk and lose power, this then clears itself for about another 10 miles then cuts out, it will start up again but seems like its misfiring as i try to pull away, have had a new lift fuel pump fitted 25k miles ago and have been told there is no way this is causing the problem, the injectors are fine as is the main diesel pump, would be grateful of any suggestions -
Octavia TDI not starting 4 Mar 2005 (Forum)
The engine turns but doesn't fire. The glowplug light goes out too. Car was serviced less than a month ago, and the fuel filter replaced. It has done 110,000 miles, so i wouldn't be surprised if something has gone. What could this be? This is the first time it's not started! I wonder if i've flooded it if that's possible on a diesel. -
Berlingo Problems.. 20 Jan 2005 (Forum)
As the knocking isn't regular it seems that maybe it isn't the failure of a major mechanical part. The recovery driver seemed to think that it was almost certainly a broken fuel injector. Is this likely? If not, what else could it be? -

Any - Hybrid cars 27 Jan 2011 (Forum)
As far as I can see, none of them exactly eclipses the consumption and CO2 figures of their conventional petrol or diesel rivals. Am I right in saying that none of these can be charged from a charging point like a full electric car? If that is the case, then the batteries fitted to the hybrid car are always charged by the engine and therefore by petrol or diesel. -
Skoda Yeti SUV - 2004 Xtrail replacement 11 Apr 2010 (Forum)
However I no longer really need all the space, and am put off by the high VED rating and relatively poor mpg, but attracted by a 0% finance deal. I have tried a Yeti, 140 hp awd diesel and was quite impressed though the ride was alot firmer than I'm used to. It's low co2, good mpg, low insurance are all attractive. I would like to compare the 170 engine but dealers mainly seem to have 110 hp diesel, some 2wd versions. -
Hyundai i30 (2007 - ) - Owner experiences 13 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Just means we'll need to buy a bike rack. I may consider a used 1.6 diesel version, but the deals available on new petrol versions (i30 1.4 for £9695) are very attractive. We only do an average sort of mileage - around 12-14k pa so are probably just below the economic threshold for a diesel. -
Choice of gears / engine speed for peak efficiency 31 Mar 2008 (Forum)
But I've also read (possibly here) that the most efficient engine speed is at peak torque, at least for diesels. I presume that wouldn't apply to a petrol engine where peak torque is at, say, 4000rpm? Is there a general rule for petrol cars and diesel cars? Does the same rule apply at (a constant) 30mph as at (a constant) 50mph? -

Focus TDCi economy... 12 May 2007 (Forum)
My 1.6 TDCi 110 Focus has now been with me for a month, however, in this time, the only time I got vaguely close to diesel-like economy was on a trip Stoke-Cambridge and back. Since then, I've returned a somewhat paltry 37mpg (20mpg short of the combined figure). Whilst that's certainly an improvement on the 33mpg I used to get from my 1.6 mk1 Focus, it barely covers the extra cost of diesel fuel, let alone inital outlay. -
Peugeot 1.9TD Woes 26 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Last week SWMBO filled up the 306 with petrol instead of diesel. Managed to drive 1 mile to work and then after work managed to drive about 3 miles before the car gave up the ghost and I received a telephone call. Car recovered on the end of a rope and fuel pumped out the next day at a local garage. -
Land Cruiser Vs Shogun - part II 5 Apr 2002 (Forum)
I know that no one buys a large 4X4 for economy... but does anyone have "real world" consumption figures for the 3.0/3.5 Petrol V6's in the Shoguns? My reasoning is that as £petrol=£diesel (+/- 3p) fuel costs may be the same for a 3.0/3.5 ltr Petrol and a 4.2 ltr diesel. What about the servicing and other running costs long term (I'd be keeping the car for a minimum of 3 years) - would there be much difference? -
MPV or not to MPV? 4 Nov 2001 (Forum)
What do you do when you've three kids, a kitchen sink, and more to move - but up to now had avoided the MPVs (small boys, and big, have enjoyed the ride in a 7 seater Nissan Terrano for the last few years but the back (small) bench seat won't be much good any longer!). An MPV seems to be on the horizon, BUT which one? Do you go for petrol or diesel, auto or manual? I've also noticed that the 'best seller' Galaxy only has a lap belt in the middle row/middle seat (is this OK for a small child?). I see the fuel goes further in the diesels and assume they're a bit better in the damp (the roads I use have been under water the last few winters - another plus for the 4x4). -
Toyota Hiace - Misfuelling prevention device 8 Aug 2018 (Forum)
Back in 2009, I bought a Toyota Hiace diesel campervan to which I fitted a misfuelling prevention device. After a discussion here in the Back Room , I chose an RAC FuelSure for about £25. -
Citreon/C Crosser Diesel - Poor Winter Starting 8 May 2015 (Forum)
I have a 57' C Crosser (Diesel) with just under 75K miles and every winter poor starting-Glowplugs lights up 3-5second.Then turn the key but it always hesitates sometime needing a second key turn .New Battery Installed (bosch S5) and the usual electrical checks Alternator voltage etc via citreon all show nothing wrong..I had a issue a couple of years ago with Fuel filter etc.. -
Ford Transit 2.5 Diesel - Has my transit lost its memory 19 Jul 2013 (Forum)
My 1996 2.5 diesel transit won’t start after removing the battery 6 months ago and putting the van in storage, I have checked all the obvious things battery fuses etc, but the problem persists, I suspect it is something to do with the ford pats immobilizer as I get nothing other than a click from the ignition relay when I turn the key, and the warning light comes on the dashboard, there are no other noises, and I can’t hear the fuel pump whirring like it usually does, is it possible for the immobilizer to lose the code from its memory due to the battery being removed for a long time I have tried starting it with the red master key but it’s still the same. -
Any - Choosing an estate (probably) for £2000 11 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Looking for something a bit fun, but not too uneconomical to run. Currently considering: Saab 9-5 - 2.0, 2.3 or HOT (probably not...) or the big diesel Vauxhall Signum - 2.0T, 2.2 direct, or the big diesel (had a vectra 1.9 150 before, would consider but want something a bit more... fun) Volvo V40 1.9 T4 (if I can find one) Mondeo (probably a 2.5 V6) MG ZT-T (again, 1.8T or 2.5 V6) I'm probably borderline on distance/route between a petrol or diesel being more suitable, but as I say I'm looking for a something a bit grumbly or pokey or both, as long as it isn't going to cost the Earth I don't mind spending a bit extra on fuel.
