Toyota Previa 2.4i 16v 2001 - Toyota Previa No Spark from Coil 2 Aug 2010 (Forum)
I have been told by the mechanic that there is no spark at all from the coil, so i would like to know 1) if anyone has a workshop manual 2) what is the next step up the electrical line on this model 3) Could I have nudged an emergency/accident cut off/immobiliser if there is one fitted (& where would the reset be?) and 4) Does this car have a CDI/ECU and where would be the best place to get one? Many many thanks to anyone with the answers to one or all of these annoying dilemmas.... Regards surge0n66 -
Toyota Celica (2000 - 2007) - 03 1.8 Engine management light and VVT controller 19 Jun 2010 (Forum)
I'm getting about 30mpg now. I've taken the car to two Toyota dealers who both retrieved a P code from the ECU that indicate a POSSIBLE problem with the VVT controller. They costed it around £500+ to replace this unit. They seemed reluctant to give me any specific details of the fault, but from glacing over the counter at their notes, I think the P code was either P1349 or P1549. -
Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 00 1.6 Engine goosed. 4 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I think the last engine swaps I did ,apart from the Jowett, were an old Mk 1 Kadette and a couple of Ladas. No ECUs or anything there !......Points is points ! Thanks. Ted -
Ford Galaxy (1995 - 2006) - 02 2.3 Mis Fire - At my wits end 4 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Mechanic is scratching his head and reckons there is only so much he can do. Has suggested getting a check done on the ECU to see if that is on its way out as a last option but he isnt overly optimistic. Would that be a good idea? What else can i do to fix it as i am getting more worried about my wife driving my two kids around in it. -
I have an idea 12 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Better than that, why not combine with electronic throttle mapping so i can have a nice fast sports car, with say 300+ BHP, but when may daughter gets in, touches the keypad, BHP is limited to 90 or so, and the throttle response matched to a Nissan Micra. What a cool idea? So much can be done with ECUs, "sports" mode can liven up throttle response, can tighten up springs/dampers, can alter gear change profile on auto boxes, so why not "17 year old daughter mode". When buying cars last year, I wanted to find something I could have real real fun in and something else my daughter could learn safely in. -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 96 1.25 Cambelt - Timing 4 Jan 2010 (Forum)
There was a slight mechanical change around 1/97, which requires a different cambelt/tensioner kit. I had always put it down to possible power loss in the PS and possible software changes in the ECU. I recently had the cambelt changed in the newer one (at 70k and 12 years) (no lectures please), and believe it or not this car now feels much better - almost the same as the other one! The only conclusion I can come to is that the original factory fitted belt was fitted so that the timing was 'slightly' wrong. -
Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 52 reg Vectra broken - dilema to repair or sell 25 Nov 2009 (Forum)
A workmate bought a Vectra at 3 years old a few years ago (52 reg) for about £7K and this morning has announced that a garage has told her the Vauhall Vectra has either a broken gear box/cluch that needs replacing (total cost £1600 (no split available)) or a new ECU (Cost £600), the total potential cost being £2,200. This is after the car was taken on a very short trip, and stuggled to get back to the house. The AA was called and the car would not move at all - The gear box felt like it has seized up. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.8 damage during repair 6 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Dear Honest John, My Ford Focus (02) TDCi recently had to have a fuel pump, fuel filter and plugs replaced at a local Ford Dealership. My usual trusty mechanic couldn't deal with it due to it all being linked to the ECU. Anyway, 2 weeks later (last night) I picked up the car and immediately a noise and vibrating came from around the clutch area, specifically when the clutch was depressed in a low gear. I drove back to the dealership and parked in the space I'd only just vacated and gave them back the envelope containing my key etc. -
Skoda Fabia (2000 - 2007) - 00 1.4 Diagnosing aircon-pitfalls 14 May 2009 (Forum)
Also found on a Skoda web forum several incidents of similar symptoms where the cure turned out to be a recode of the engine ecu. I then took it to a very bright sparky I know and he confirmed that fault code 18020 was held in the PCM (Powertrain control module) which in turn indicated it had an incorrect code stored. He was able to look up the correct code and bingo, the aircon worked. -
Vauxhall Vectra B facelift (1999 - 2002) - 99 2.0 engine run-on and ticking sound 13 Apr 2009 (Forum)
hi, my vectra suffers from brief engine run-on and ticking/tapping sound. these symptons disappear if i force the ecu into limp/ safe mode (by disconnecting the cam sensor). the eml is throwing up a cam sensor fault. ive changed this but eml remains. (ive come to understand that the eml showing a faulty cam sensor is a bit of a red herring.) this all happened after i changed the cambelt, tensioners, rollers, water pump. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - Replacement car - suggestions? 23 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I've finally decided to cut my losses and get rid of my terrible Ford Focus 1.8tdci estate. Since I've had it I've had problems with ecu/fuel injection (£1,100 quoted to fix), blocked injectors (£250 to fix), battery problems (£150) and now I've been told that it needs a new flywheel system and possibly a clutch (at least £700). So it's going! -
Nissan Almera (2000 - 2006) - 04 1.8auto - lacking power. 3 Feb 2009 (Forum)
the main dealer could not find a fault with the car aftter they plug it into there computers but did a reset on the ECU and also reset it to re-learn mode? I have no warning lights on the dash and been told its posible autobox problem but seems abit unlikely at 38K and on a 04 plate car. Also been told could be the mass air sensor. -
FIAT Stilo (2002 - 2007) - 2003 1.6 £1100 spent still not fixed 30 Jan 2009 (Forum)
If this wasn`t bad enough I have spent £1100 with fiat and there is still a problem, they have changed: -the throttle management system( TWICE) -the ECU -the pressure switch -finally the accelerator pedal itself Well and truly stuck in the fiat trap, trying to recoup some money back but thats another story. The point is the car still has this problem!!!!! -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1999 1.6 running roughly 30 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Could the Lambda sensor have failed and it started to over-fuel and when I stopped and re-started, the ECU has adjusted itself for the faulty oxygen reading? Answers on a postcard please! -
FIAT Punto II (1999 - 2006) - 2000 1.2 16v Intermittent dashboard failure 17 Sep 2008 (Forum)
The only light that stays on is the keycode light, but this disappears if the ignition is turned off and the engine restarted. I have had an auto electrician check both the ecu and body computer and no error codes were found. He also checked the wiring in the steering column and couldnt find any obvious problems. I also have a problem with my puto stalling or cutting out. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2000 1.8 TDDI Fuel Pump Problem 19 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Now 6 weeks later the engine has been rebuilt but I am now being told the engine will not start and the mechanic thinks it is because the battery has been off for so long the ecu has lost its settings. He towed it to the local ford dealer who put it on the computer but they have diagnosed internal fuel pump error. I fail to see why the fuel pump will now be faulty since the rebuild as it had nothing to do with the rebuild and the car ran ok apart from the crankshaft fault. -
Rover 25 (1999 - 2005) - 02 1.4 16v engine misfire 16 Apr 2008 (Forum)
The only significant work undertaken on the engine prior to this problem occurring, was to replace a blown head gasket at 55k. It has been suggested that the problem may be with the ECU and that a replacement would cost about £400. Do you agree, and if so, do you have a view on the viability of such an investment, given that the rest of the car is sound and has just sailed through its MoT Or do you have another theory? -
Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - 05 2.0 gt t Turbo problem or not 15 Apr 2008 (Forum)
It has done 27K Miles and is literally in threshold of the 3 year warranty which i am currently arguing about with VW, another Story. I took it for ECU at VW garage they said it was Turbo. When i asked for the report it turns out no fault number came up, i asked dealership how do you know it is Turbo and their response was engine sounds like it, not good enough as i may be liable for £1800. -
FIAT Punto (1994 - 1999) - 1998 - battery boost - help needed 17 Dec 2007 (Forum)
On re-installing the battery to the car the engine cranked over nicely but absolutly nothing from the engine-not even a try to fire up. I've got a sinking feeling here that the ECU has lost everything, ive heard of this battery thing that fits into the cig lighter, but thought a 10 year old car would be tolerant of a battery disconection-my 11 year old Hyundai Sonata gave no problems at all when i fitted a new battery last year. -
Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 2002 1.6 running temperature 24 Oct 2007 (Forum)
The heater does produce warm air after about 3 miles and seems fine even though the gauge isn't near 80. It could be a dodgy temp sender unit or the coolant ecu unit. To change the stat on these you are advised to remove cambelt, camshaft sprocket and timing belt covers to get to the stat housing, I'm tempted to try it in situ - has anyone done this? Thanks for any suggestions.
