  • Security suggestions for yard 7 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Short of sleeping in one of the lorries with a baseball bat, or spending lots and lots of money on cameras, has anyone got any suggestions as to how we can stop it happening? The police are patrolling the road every hour at night at the moment, but it still happened last night without anyone seeing anything.
  • Back to Motoring (sort of...) 11 Jan 2002 (Forum)
This was in our local paper today: Question: Are Westminster parking wardens council employees, or are they independent contractors? BTW, Notice Rocky's profession... :) London - In the urban jungle, it pays to be armed with a camera when parking your car. On Thursday, after 10 months of legal action, Londoner Rocky Fernandez finally won his battle to have a prematurely issued £80 parking ticket cancelled. But despite his victory, Fernandez, who caught an overeager parking warden's actions on film, called his long fight against Westminster Council for justice "a disgrace".
  • Rust 13 Aug 2001 (Forum)
On another subject I recently returned to the UK to see my family and had to drive the full lengh of the M1 and M62 in both directions. As far as increasing the speed limit I found most Uk drivers are not capable of driving never mind driving fast. Also the truck drivers tailgating at 70mph should be locked up.I never saw one police car on the whole of the M1 trip and only two cameras both in Yorkshire.Laned disipline ,lack of indicating and tailgating well what can you say.I drove the previous month 6000km throughout Europe France Spain Italy Austria and back to Germany and never saw anything like the Uk .No wonder insurance is so high in the Uk compared to mainland Europe.I would say driving in Sau Paulo Brazil is saver than London, perhaps Mark will comment on that.
  • Yet another motoring offence. 9 Aug 2001 (Forum)
From "On The Road":- "A new police unit in Northamptonshire aims to catch motorists who give speed cameras the V-sign. Drivers face a maximum £5,000 fine or six months in jail for public order offences. The £100,000 unit will have four officers on motorbikes." Well, we knew the spoil-all-motoring brigade to be pompous, humourless, hostile, tyrannical single-issue fanatics with over-inflated egos but at least it is amusing to have them demonstrate it themselves.
  • Never Received NIP 7 Mar 2025 (Forum)
Until receiving this court letter, I was completely unaware that my vehicle was involved in a minor speeding offence. Apparently, my car was caught by a speed camera going 35 mph in a 30 mph zone back in May 2024.   I never received a Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) or any other correspondence about this matter until the court letter. According to West Yorkshire Police, they sent two letters: one in May 2024 and a follow-up in July 2024.
  • Nissan Micra K14 2018 1.5 diesel 2018 - Multiple Warning Lights all at once 28 Sep 2024 (Forum)
One thing I will mention which might be a clue or just a waste of time is that the windscreen was changed about a month beforehand and I think cameras and radar may have to be refitted. Thanks for reading and any time you may invest in my problem. Sean
  • Off to Spain this summer? A couple of reminders. 22 Jun 2023 (Forum)
Beware that summer is a great season for collecting fines from errant motorists, and Spain and the UK not only allow licence exchanges (recently reintroduced) but also exchange driver data so that fines can be pursued. There are fixed and mobile cameras aplenty, and even traffic police helicopters. You have been warned! As of May 2021, all urban areas with one lane of traffic in each direction default to 30 km/h (19 mph), regardless of signage, although many towns now have a blanket 30 km/h.
  • Can a CC PCN be enforced if sign wasn't crossed? 29 Dec 2022 (Forum)
See photo, the line of the sign is 2-3m more in, that just caught that I was about to turn in: https://us-noi.v-cdn.net/6031891/uploads/editor/03/turzsxdhu98c.jpg They already rejected my representation with some BS that they don't actually need to make sure I cross the line of the sign, they can put the cameras wherever they want to take the best pictures, and charge as many people as they can, starting at £80 each. I even provided GPS evidence that I didn't actually drive in the zone.  I'm thinking of taking it further to court (appeal), but I'm not sure if I can find any actual sentence/paragraph in any traffic acts/highway code which says the line of the sign matters.
  • Another S172 Question 6 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Today she has had a S172 from the North Wales Police requiring her to name the driver as vehicle was caught at 58 in a 50 by average speed camera at 21:56 on 21 January. Westbound and on obvious route from hire co site to her home. Obviously the initial notice has gone to the hire company and they've named her.  She's obliged to return the S172 and will do so with a suitable explanation as to why she cannot name the driver.
  • Dacia Sandero - Parking charge 19 Mar 2019 (Forum)
On the day in question I had gone into Lincoln but did not park anywhere at any time - I had taken my wife into town & dropped her off opposite Lincoln rail station on a road called St Mary's Street where there is a taxi rank, which at the time was virtually empty & was stopped for maybe 50 seconds just to allow her to get out of the car - I did not get out & engine was running & drove away immediately she shut the door. ( St Mary's street is the street that runs alongside the station - but I did not at any time enter the stations parking area, even to drive through). There are obviously parking cameras in the area covering the stations parking area but how can UKCPS possibly try to imply I was in a disabled parking slot & what  can I do to disprove this ridiculous affair & not pay them?

Having also contacted the BBC who refuse a freedom of information request. I note all there courtesy cars and camera vans are Mercs.  People talk about the Masonic Pollution that exists in this country? I would suggest some other kind of corruption is going on. • any - Taxi Drivers 7 Mar 2016 (Forum)
I was an Old Bill for 30 years and this sort of attitude annoys me, although I was always CID rather than traffic.  Seems to me that all is now dependent on cameras, etc.  The day to day dangerous/careless driving is ignored. Rant over (for time being).

  • Mazda RX-8 - new car tax rules, we've run into trouble 18 Jan 2015 (Forum)
All was lovely and he was loving his car until he got a letter from DVLA telling him he had been pinged on an ANPR camera and was being fined for no tax. Having established that it appears the money he paid has been refunded to the previous keeper, who surrendered the car in trade several months ago. So he immediately taxed it again and wrote to DVLA.
  • Best MPG automatic 9 Jul 2013 (Forum)
And last, how quiet the car was. It had a gadget which tell you when you are approaching a speed camera. Fun. You might be used to it, but for me, it was new and fun. And made my dives more relaxing. And being rather tall, its driving position was good with its seat adjustment. So, cheap to run and easy to drive and rather quiet.
  • Toyota Prius - The Great Prius Dilemma 31 May 2013 (Forum)
I have been offered a 2010 Toyota Prius. It's the Spirit model, so comes with built in Sat Nav, rear camera and quite a few other bells and whistles. It's a family member who is offering it to us, he's had it from new, is a careful driver, has full franchise service history and 35k miles on the clock. It's in immaculate condition and he's offering it for the price the dealer offered him part ex (£10,700).
  • Stopping at Hounslow East bus stop 14 Sep 2011 (Forum)
When I then checked the online council CCTV images, it was in the same position and obviously had been like that between 22/2 and 2/3 and the CCTV operatives hadn't bothered verifying from the comfort of their console. Moral: ALWAYS try and check out the venue of the alleged offence armed with a camera.  Also check the integrity of the FPN against the legislation.  Section 47 Traffic Management Act 2004 relates to "Duties relating to the location of unexpected apparatus" and has nothing to do with stopping at bus stops as alleged.
  • Peugeot 207 CC - unable to identify driver in alleged speeding 22 Feb 2011 (Forum)
On a recent journey back home to North Norfolk from Devon my husband and I were caught by a ' safety camera' on the A303. I am unfamiliar with this road so even with a map reference I cannot identify who was driving st the time. The photos are inconclusive but the enlarged one they sent was the second one taken and has no speed on it.
  • Mitsibishi asx - Mitsubishi asx - 3 or 4? 3 Jan 2011 (Forum)
So i've been looking into the differences between the 3 and the 4 spec, which seems to come down to sat nav (not bothered - we have a tomtom for the few occasions she actually goes anywhere she's not been before), leather (nice, but she's not had it before and we're not bothered), reversing camera (useful safety feature but the 3 has beepers) - so the only other difference is "iPod control". Now the 3 has a USB socket, so presumably you can plug in an iPod and play it through the stereo, but I was wondering what control you get - I assume you can't use menus etc but with the brilliance that is the Genius Playlist she could choose a playlist at the start of the journey and as long as she can adjust volume and ideally skip tracks then that'd probably be fine.
