Tracking - Wheel Alignment - Audi A4 5 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I recently got a brand new pair of front tyres for my 2 year old A4, and initially has a few problems with the balance of these wheels which was sorted out by the tyre services involved. However, since getting these new tyres, (change from Conti Sport Contact 2's to Cont Premium Contact 2's), I have had a slight jitter in the steering at between 60 and 80 varying in intensity from undetectable to noticeable depending on road surface. The car has done 38K miles and I have never bashed any kerbs or suchlike, can this be the symptomm of wheel allignment being hightened by the different tyre tread pattern ? -

Funny workshop tales 28 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I have 3 good friends all mechanics. 1 runs his own very well respected repair garage, 1 works on his own as a mech, the other a foreman in a ford main dealer 2 trained together, but all have worked together get them in a pub and get them talking about incedents that go on behind the reception desk My favorite. One of them his first week at work at a big BL dealer in the late 60's The managing directors car a S type Jag was on the ramp looking for a exhaust leak. The mechanic sent my mate the trainee to rev the engine up, so he could see any leak, the car happened to be in drive, it shot off the ramp and landed on a work bench with the sump inbeded on a vice! -
Superficial windscreen damage 15 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Whilst in use the frame has been in contact with the windscreen at the top of its ´sweep´, rather than just the rubber blade. This has resulted in a nasty scuff on the windscreen - annoyingly in the driver´s line of vision. It looks a bit like a mucky smear but is in fact a surface scuff on the glass. It´s about 2" by 2" so enough to annoy. Following me? So the question is - what can I use to remove aforementioned scuff? -
Which car would you choose, & why? 12 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Any experience of these models (obviously not one the 330d yet, but others)? Audi A4 3.0 TDi S-Line Quattro Audi A4 3.2 FSi S-Line Quattro BMW 330i M Sport BMW 330d M Sport (231bhp) BMW 530d M Sport (now 231bhp too) The Audi is in my opinion the best looking, and has lots of kit. The 3-series looks like a Korean car from the back, although the M Sport version arrives in October, maybe that will look better, and the 5-Series will be expensive on Company car tax due to its high list price, even if the CO2 is lower than the Audi. -- Neil T Mondeo Ghia TDCi 130 Estate, SEAT Toledo 20VT Sport, Various Montegos... -
Peugeot 504 22 Feb 2005 (Forum)
There's a 504 family estate I see around the Bath area on occasion but it's not so clean although much newer. We used to have these 504's as a family when they were new. They were tough as old boots. Couldn't break them. Many ended up getting shipped to Africa in the late 1980's where they no doubt did many more harsh miles. -
Ford Mondeo TDCi 13 Pin Electrical Kit 10 Sep 2004 (Forum)
The accompanying Instruction Book only devotes one page to this subject and does not provide relays, wiring etc to enable these circuits to be connected. Ford Technical are hazy as to whether this will affect the car\'s Warranty or the car\'s reliability. My car was built 22.12.03 and purchased by me in last two weeks, I am the first registered owner. I now have the task of instructing the Dealership to wire up these circuits or not, the rest of the kit has already been installed. -

Tracking or stupidity? Ford Focus 26 Jun 2004 (Forum)
The car isn\'t pulling or veering or anything like that - in fact, I only noticed it when I was coming to a stop at some lights - the only problem at the moment is that wheel isn\'t dead centre. Anyway - is this tracking or not? I understand it\'s a very trivial problem but I want to get it sorted. Cheers Adam -
Noisy Fuel Pump - Renault 5 26 Mar 2004 (Forum)
It sounds like what I would expect a pump to sound like when spooling down. Having a look around I\'m pretty sure that it\'s the fuel pump. If this is the case are these early symptoms that it might be on it\'s way out? (there has been no noticeable change in performance or efficiency) I just want to know if I should think about replacing it. -
318i MOT Failure 27 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I just got my MOT done today and failed on a few things, this is what was said in the report: 1) O/S fault, anti-roll bar link bush split 2) Front pad low 3) N/S front to rear metal pipe coroded, and 4) Front registration plate cracked. Answers? 1) Quoted £14 for this but how much to fit? 2) Change of front pads, this shouldn't be a problem to fix myself should it? -

Mitsubishi carisma 5 Feb 2004 (Forum)

a car for all seasons 21 Jul 2003 (Forum)
second hand - which will need to be a very useful for a self employed gardener (not much landscaping, mostly lighter stuff), comfortable enough to travel long distances in, be able to cope with some of my off-road (farmer?s fields) camping excursions and be reasonably economical. It?s a bit like finding a plant that will flower all year and grow anywhere without any trouble? Does anyone have some suggestions please? I am considering a Subaru Forester, Volvo V70, Maybe a Honda HVR (is it?). -
Just driven over a fence post at speed.. 16 Jun 2003 (Forum)
When I reached a stretch of really smooth tarmac and going at 70kph I can feel a \"roughness\" through the steering wheel, in tune with the wheel rotations. I\'ve checked the wheel at work and there\'s no visible damage to the tyre or the outside of the alloy, which still has its outer balance weight on. I can\'t check to see if there\'s supposed to be an inner balance weight, and if its there or not. -
Our new world: total car surveillance 10 Jun 2003 (Forum)
The current road tax system may be scrapped as a sweetener. Civil liberties will of course be a culled in order to service Darling\'s vision for a better Britain. So, what do Back Roomers think? http://www.observer.co.uk/politics/story/0,6903,973035,00.html -

High Mileage 28 Mar 2003 (Forum)
It\'s an interesting concept though, being so upfront about the high miles - I guess they must be going for people who know how to look for a good car, rather than those who simply want one in a pretty colour.
