The clutch is on its way out (i knew this when i bought it) and will be replaced shortly (any idea how much this is likely to be please?) I took it to work on monday, a journey of 38 miles and noticed a problem, it runs and accelerates fine but when i come of the gas it veers fairly heavily to the left?? It runs fine in a straight line when driving normally. Any idea`s please? Ta, Jon
  • Help ! overheating Vectra 17 Jun 2006 (Forum)
I had also renewed oil and all filters and was fine prior to taking the vehicle off the road for a few days. I took it for a run yesterday and it was overheating as a result of a binding front brake , the disks were in bad shape So I decided to change them today. Now the car overheats and goes to the same mark on the gauge whether I run it on the road or it stands idleing.

i have a 2001 406 110 hdi.I was having cold start problems so fitted new glow plugs, that cured it for a few weeks then it started playing up again, sounds like running on 3 cylinders until you blip the throttle then it picks up and runs on four. Now when i pull up at junction etc it starts surging but picks up when you pull away.Car seems to have all its power.I have changed the fuel filter last week but hasn't made any difference,I have also tested the glow plugs and they were fine.Any ideas, hope its not something nasty(big bills)

There are no warning lights on dash board so I'm stumped? Reluctance to go to dealer dueto cost, but the backstreet boys can run up an equally large bill. Any help would be much appreciated! Jim

  • Noisy Rover 414 when cold 17 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I have just aquired my father's 1999 Rover 414, 16 valve 26k miles. He only did short runs in it & the engine seems noisy when started from cold & for the first couple of miles from cold. The cam belt was changed at 5 years (20k miles) My father used to do 50mph max. Last night, I got the engine hot with a 30 mile run before driving for 6 miles on a motorway in 3rd at 6000 rpm, it felt a lot better after that but still seems noisy when starting from cold & going up through the gears until it warms up.
  • Ford Mondeo 2 ltr Turbo Diesel 17 Sep 2005 (Forum)
My daughter has an ancient but trusty Mondeo estate car; it has a service history and the cam belt was changed at 90K miles. It has started running a bit roughly, particularly on the overrun when engine braking. It has gone into a local workshop where they have changed the injectors with no great improvement resulting. They are now saying that "The cam belt is out by 180 degs"; I don't know much but I can see that slipping one tooth could cause problems but it couldn't have slipped 180 degs and it could not have been installed wrong 15,000 miles ago or the car wouldn't have run at all, or would it?

I will not allow AOL near our own PC so a bit in the dark but might there be conflict between the XP firewall/Virus progs and Norton plus AOL trying to run similar? Just a clue where to start from someone who knows the AOL issues would be a great help. Thanks. M.M
  • BMW rattle 4 May 2005 (Forum)
Evening all, My mums running one of the last original BMW compacts, a 316i with the 1.9 engine on an X-plate with 58000 miles on the clock. She told me that theres a rattle coming from somewhere under the bonnet and I've had a look and found where the rattle is coming from.
  • 1.0 R Reg Corsa cutting out 4 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Hi all Just been driving down the M57 and my Corsa suddenly cut out. I managed to get it off the motorway and towed home. I can start it and it will run for about 5-10 seconds and then I hear a click from behind the passenger side dash and immediately the engine management light will come on and it will cut out again. If I try to start it straight away it will not start but if I leave it for say 20-30 seconds it will start again, but again, onlt run for a short space of time.
  • Immobiliser problem (I think) Volvo V70R 23 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I think I have an intermittent problem with my factory fitted immobiliser. The car will turn over fine, and run for a split second - but then instantly cut out, however many times I try. If I leave it for a while and lock/unlock the car (with the remote) it will usually work again, and run perfectly. Sometimes it will be fine first time, others not so.
  • Toyota Corolla 27 Feb 2005 (Forum)
He does around 10,000 miles a year (I think thats what he said anyway). He uses the car mainly for going to work and doing all the running around locally but it will be used for longer runs aswell, on motorways and country roads. Basically, was just wondering what people make of them and whether this would meet his needs. Any comments would be greatly recieved.
  • Rover 416 Tourer 26 Feb 2005 (Forum)
The airfilter is clean, there are no leaking air inlet hoses and the brakes and bearings are not binding. Normally I would suspect a collapsed catalyst causing running problems but the car starts, idles and runs as it did when it was new albeit apart from the bad fuel consumption. Just wondering if anyone out there with a Rover 416 has experienced the same problems and if so what has caused the drop in consumption?
  • BMW 520i sport Avus 2 Feb 2005 (Forum)
The car seems to have a good spec, but would all those in the know consider it to be a good long term family car. Could the current BMW owners tell me of likely running costs. The car looks great but is at the extreme top end of my budget (it's actually well over, the wife thinks it's £13'000). Will I have to re-mortgage to run it and is it likely to suffer horrendus depreciation?
  • Computer related questions. Volume 39 22 Jan 2005 (Forum)
A hard drive problem. My PC runs WinXP (SP2 installed) with a 40Mb HDD partitioned as C, D and E drives. It's a Medion and came that way. No problem for a couple of years, but now on bootup, I get an error message to the effect that Drive D needs "checking for consistency" and (unless I override it) it then runs a disc check before declaring all OK.

  • Vauxhall Corsa is it a wise buy? 23 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Am looking to buy a small run around and after looking around think that a 2000 onwards Corsa 1.2 may be a good balance of reliability and running costs. Seems that it has a Suzuki engine with timing chain rather than belt. I have searched around for any problems to look out for, but there do not seem to be any major faults reported on these models - seems too good to be true for a Vauxhall!!
  • Import Delica vs Estima... 2 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Hi, Have the following: * 4 large growing kids * Need to do long journeys, not short ones, in comfort with more luggage than a Sharan/Alhambra etc can cope with Budget £6000 - £7000 Seriously considering the following: * Mitsubishi Delica 4x4 TD 2.8 diesel * Toyota Lucida 2.2 TD Estima Does anyone out there own one/ have any experience of the running costs, maintenance and what to look out for when buying? Is buying from an import auction to dodgy (am happy with auction buying), or is it best to buy from an importer? Is the Delica really as thirsty on a run as I think it might be?!
