  • Vauxhall Corsa C - Vauxhall Corsa, 'Yellow spanner' light fault 26 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Eventually advise was sought of the Dealership, who advised that as everything had been changed then it must be the ECU ( The brainbox)…. This cost £500 to replace.. They then put it on the diagnostic and detected that the ‘cannister’ was full of water So TODAY the canister was replaced with a brand new canister..
  • Peugeot 207 - Fire damage 14 Nov 2010 (Forum)
I picked the car up and they told me they had changed seals and had the engine bay apart. Less than 48 hours later the car was on fire, not badly on fire ECU is melted and various parts of plastic in the engine bay. I have obviously told my insurance who are in talks with Pug. My question is will this be a write off? Can I refuse the car back as I wil not drive the car I don't trust the workmanship and don't want the car setting on fire again?
  • Ford Escort c.95 - Engine runs from cold, then soon stops. 17 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Hello - this problem concerns a Ford 1.8 diesel turbo-intercooled engine, but whilst I'm posting under the Escort heading, it's actually fitted as OEM equipment to an agricultural vehicle; however as far as I can tell the installation closely matches a typical car job ( the only difference is that there is no ECU). The problem is starting - from cold the engine fires up well, and for 5 to 10 seconds runs and revs up okay to my ears, but then starts to run very irregularly and soon stops. It then doesn't start , or runs very badly, until it has been left for a while, and then it runs and stops as before; this suggests  fuel starvation ( of course ?)

  • Vauxhall Zafira - Zafira z18xe throttle problems 6 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Not a dealer one) The possibilities i've thought of are faulty fly by wire pedal, faulty MAF, faulty throttle body i'e built in sensor, faulty ecu. I'm no mechanic though so these are pure guesses. If anyone has ever had this problem and fixed it please let me know otherwise i'm gonna start replacing things which probably don't need replaced.
  • Artificial life and the artifice of existence 20 May 2010 (Forum)
"We will be limited only by our own imagination" http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/7745868/Scientist-Craig-Venter-creates-life-for-first-time-in-laboratory-sparking-debate-about-playing-god.html I was thinking then, of a slot near the door, where you would insert a Mars Bar and the car would sprint 50 miles on 25 short,  hairy (although that would be an optional extra) organic legs. Or perhaps an organic brain instead of an ECU. `I`m not starting - I have a headache` Or maybe you could re-create the sadistic school headmaster of mine - long gone - have him as a sans brain (small alteration to the genome there, very small) attraction in the City centre where you bend over for a little long due correction..
  • Citroen C3 - Central Locking Fault 27 Mar 2010 (Forum)
The AA mentioned going to citroen and getting them to have a look, as he says it could be the acutual central locking motor has gone caput, or its and ECU fault. he seems to think that its is related to the radio as we have had the simular problems before.   Any ideas anybody before she commits herself at citroens will?   thanks  michael
  • Chrysler Voyager (1997 - 2001) - 99 2.5 No glowplug light / no crank 16 Nov 2009 (Forum)
What is very interesting is that if you power up the Diesel pump stop solinoid with 12v the glow plug light comes on, goes out and the vehicle starts and drives as normal, except that there's no turbo boost. Everything is pointing to the PCM(ECU) loosing a feed/earth. I've got a CD ROM with a complete service manual on, including wiring diagrams, which has been a great help, but some of the diagrams, wire colours, etc don't correspond. The car is perfectly drivable with the bypass, except for the lack of boost!!

  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 03 2.0 Intermittent starting problem 13 Jun 2009 (Forum)
It's been like this for sevral weeks now only failing once or twice before starting - so I just thought that the ECU was not "ready" or something ....... However last night I had to try for almost 10 minutes before it would start - the engine was warm btw, not that that seems to make any difference to this problem.

  • Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - Performance Mods? 7 Apr 2009 (Forum)
    2) Can you put a 16v head & MP injection on an 8v? How would you find out if you could? What else would you need asside from the ECU & intake manifold.... More expensive, more complicated - particularly for insurance & problem troubleshooting 3) Kent "sports" CAM? Problematic? Insurance issues? Do they work? Am I flogging a dead horse?
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2001 1.6 help with erratic temp gauge 25 Feb 2009 (Forum)
if anyone can help i will be amazed, simply out of ides now, got a 2001 51 focus 1.6 automatic estate, temp gauge seems to so what it wants when it wants, one min it sits fine in the middle then shoots up in to the red although the engine does not overheat, i have checked the radiator for blockages, had the cooling system flushed through so there are no air locks, thermostat has been changed, so has the tempreture switch between the ht leads, the water pump has been taken off and changed, the car has been to an electrical place to check for fault codes and the ecu but they have found nothing wrong, have just used silver seal on the engine to seal the head gasket (if there was a problem with it) have even taken the dash out and changed the temp gauge needle thingy with the one off my wife's (who's works fine) and now im out of ideas if anyone knows of something ive missed or what it might be your help would be greatly appreciated
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2001 1.6 Intermittent starting delay 21 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Does anyone know what might be causing the problem? Gates of Ford reckoned that it is most likely to be the ECU needing a calibration but then again they might just be trying to get £80 out of me for doing practically nothing (a computer reset) which might not solve the problem. Thank you for your time.
  • Vauxhall Vectra B (1995 - 1999) - 99 x20xev Poltergeist in rev counter 25 Jul 2008 (Forum)
afternoon all; My lovely green Vectra X20XEV simtec 56.5 ECU has decided to devlop a new fault, as follows:- I'm rattling up the M3 at around 60 all is normal, then the car suddenly judders and the rev counter starts fluctuating rapidly between 0 and 5000 rpm.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - TDCi - Fuel gauge / computer discrepancy 16 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Later in the week, the low fuel warning light came on when the computer considered the remaining range was 50 miles (the gauge was still showing the tank to be full!) and I wondered if the ECU would stop the engine when the computer thought the fuel was about to run out. When I started the car the next day, the low fuel light was still on and computer showing only about 25 miles - 10 miles later, I noticed that the light gone and the available range was 720 miles.
  • Water in air intake Peugeot 306 HDI 26 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Hopefully though perhaps all that is required now is an electronic control unit reset ? Please anyone know how to reset the Bosch ECU , or any other ideas which might help ...?
  • Renault Scenic 2000 DCi 1 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Anyeways ontot he problem, car runs fine at all times, however once doing above 65 - 70 the igniition warning light comes on, then goes out once you slow down..... only does it at 65 - 70, obvioulsy a faulty sensor, problem is when reading the ECU fault mem, there is no fault stored (as these engines typically dont store everything). Has anyone had something similar and can tell me what it is? Ill be getting my live diagnostics back soon (I hope) so can have laptop plugged in whilst driving and see what it says when the light comes on but really want htis sorted ASAP.
  • 95 Golf 1.6 (AEE) Accelerator Dead Spot 2 May 2007 (Forum)
Afternoon all I've got a 1995 1.6 Golf with an AEE engine. It had to have some work done recently which involved disconnecting the ECU (don't know if this is relevant, but . . . ). Since then it's had an intermittent (but consistently intermittent!) dead spot on the accelerator. The dead spot is about in the middle of the pedal's travel, and corresponds to between about 65mph and ~100mph in 5th.
  • Fiat Punto Mulijet, poor acceleration 28 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Work to date:- EGR pipe work removed and cleaned, breather was heavily fouled with oily sludge. EGR actuator removed and checked for contamination. ECU shows no faults on Fiat tester and the Launch X341. MAP sensor checked as ok by substitution With MAF sensor disconnected, test drive revealed no change in performance New Fiat MAF sensor fitted, no improvement EGR actuator checked for resistance, approx 8Ω, 9V present with ignition ON, 12V present with engine running.
