  • Rear parcel shelf - is it a safety item? 1 Dec 2020 (Forum)
Just watching a car show,  Motor Pickers' and the chap said the rear parcel shelf in a  Volvo estate was also a safety item in an even of a crash, IE another car hits you in the back of your car, keeps occupants safer.   In my Jeep GC the bar is hefty and I often leave it out.
  • highest mileage car you ever bought 29 Apr 2019 (Forum)
A few years ago I was looking for a Volvo estate but funds were tight due to young family and large mortgage. I found a decent one for about 8K and chatted to the salesman who showed me an 7 series estate with 165k on the clock, a few cosmetic things were showing but the bloke said they'd make them look decent if I wanted it.

  • Headlamp washers MOT fail 30 Sep 2013 (Forum)
On HJ's Telegraph page there's a post from someone whose car failed the MOT due to a headlamp washer not working. I've noticed that most versions of the German marques (A4+, 5 Series+, and Mercs and Volvo-who  think pioneered headlamp wipers and SAABs) have headlamp washer/wipers fitting as standard. Why are the Germans and Scandavians so keen on this accessory? Volkswagen seem to shun this although a fair number of Seats and Skoda seem to include them.

  • Mazda MPV (2000 - 2007) - Reliable outside temperature guage for Mazda 3 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Our trusty Mazda MPV has everything - except a thermometer to tell you the outside temperature. My Volvo V50 gives a very accurate reading and as my wife has been driving it instead of the Mazda this week she has insisted that one is fitted to the Mazda asap. I've looked up the 'net but I am none the wiser.
  • Ford Galaxy (2006 - ) - Second hand Ghia is the Xpack worth it ? 4 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Found an almost identical pair at an independent, but one is a x-pack variant, 2k less miles with a price differential of +2.5k which seems a bit wide to me. I know from experience that some vehicles (volvo/merc/bmw etc) need leather + gadgets to keep their price but are MPV's with hi-lux interiors that sought after ?

  • service history 2 May 2006 (Forum)
Hello, Could anyone give their thoughts on my quandry please? I've been quoted £210 for a 60,000 mile service on my 2001 '51 reg Volvo S60 2.0T by an independent, £252 by a main dealer. When it comes to thinking about re-sale time (2 years hence and a further 20,000 miles), would it be worth spending the extra £42 now, in anticipation of getting a better sale / trade in price due to a main dealer stamped book, or will any difference in future price be negligible?
  • "STICKY" notes/posts. 8 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Mods (DD really), Can't you see if Stephen can add a STICKY post facility for you guys so an announcement for something like the Volvo Poop-Up can stay at the top for whatever period you judge useful. It would stop circumstances that seem to annoy such as far0n posting about it when perhaps he missed the original long post being anywhere near the top of the page during his infrequent visits.
  • "Fuel Trim Limit" code 17 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Volvo V70R The 'engine management light' came on earlier in the week, had it investigated and the code came up as "Long term fuel trim limit". The light was extinguished by garage (two days ago). Anyway, today the light has come on again, so I'll need to take it back.

hi all , my father who has always been a "volvo man" and currently owns a v70t5 which has covered over 250k trouble miles, has been offered by a elderley relative a 1999 rover 827 with very low milage and in very good condition at a very good price but is a bit wary due to rovers past bad publicity, has any backroomers any opionins on whether this model is likely to be a good long term bet bearing in mind my father does about 50k a year any views much appreciated thanks
  • Power Lock differential 13 Oct 2002 (Forum)
My RWD Volvo 900 series estate, has a power lock differential; if one wheel begins to lose tractions, the diff locks and so both wheels turn at the same speed. It works very well, however as most other maunfacturers use limited slip systems, I can only assume that an LSD is better?
  • The final raceday 5 Sep 2001 (Forum)
Another Mk2 was observed running the length of the back straight as if joined to the boot of the untouched Volvo in front. The corner was reached, Volvo man applied brakes and attempted to turn, Mk2 man maintained full power, the Volvo carried straight on, and very nearly crested the 20' earth banking on the outside of the corner, end of Volvo.
  • Volvo V60 Recharge - Financial Ombudsman ruling against Insurance Co. 8 Feb 2024 (Forum)
Financial Ombudsman ruling against Insurance company use of non-OEM replacement windscreens When my windscreen was hit by a stone and needed replacing, the Insurance company insisted on using third-party glass and fitters.  Volvo states that non-OEM glass will potentially compromise the function of about 20 safety systems and warranty claims because of non-OEM glass replacement will be invalidated.  My reaction to the insistence on third party suppliers is that it represents unfair contract terms.
