Jeep Wrangler 4.0 1993 5sp - importing spares from the US 24 Feb 2016 (Forum)
My Jeep requires a fair bit doing to get through the MOT this year and $1000 worth of panels soon after. Time for a refurb. I have imported a few bits from the US jeep parts specialists 'Quadratec' in the past but with such a large spend am I at the mercy of Customs and Excise? Has anyone had experience of of larger shipments and specifically the amount of import duty charged when in the UK? -
Imports 3 Apr 2002 (Forum)
The model I want is the CDX 5 door hatchback 4 speed automatic. My Toyota agent here tells me not buy an import. Onesearch assure me that their import would be the exact same model with the same specifications as the car I would buy in this country. This is very tempting. Do you have any information about this company and what are your comments? -
Imported Car 1 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Have been offered good prices by the likes of Virgin for full UK specification which are well below What Car Target Price. However I have also been offered a new import from a long established Ford dealer for about £1000 less than the Virgin price. Will only have a two year warranty and though not to full UK specification the missing bits are not important to me and as i will be keeping it for the long term the normal re-sale considerations are not really relevant. Are there good practical reasons why I should avoid an import of this type? -
warranty on import 10 Mar 2003 (Forum)
As the "proud owner" of an imported car I foolishly assumed that as the dealer has specified that the car has "the remainder of the manufacturer's warranty" that this would be the case. It seems that the UK importer thinks otherwise (h says it probably has none)and is being totally uncooperative even in confirming the origin of the car - which I suspect is Southern Ireland. -
Car importers, supermarkets etc. 5 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Has anyone out there got any experience (good or bad) of the various car importers and supermarkets you see advertised in the motoring press (and on this site) ? The deals often look very good but are they and does the service live up to expectations ? Anyone got any recommendations or vice versa ? -

HJ's bias against 'imports'? 4 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Also, the Japanese appear to drive their cars 'less' so average mileage is much lower. So why stay away from an import? Mechanically virtually the same, the only real differences are the shape of the rear number plate and a kph speedo! In fact, ALL 5s are Japanese imports (i.e. imported from Japan!). Sorry for the rant and advance apologies if this has been covered before. -

Channel island cars UK or Imports?? 5 Sep 2004 (Forum)
We're trying to trade in our Leon TDi S that started life as a Jersey hire car, then the dealer who imported it had it in their name so we're the 2nd UK owner. SEAT UK say its a UK car and it has the standard UK warranty and AA cover (we have a letter confirming the warranty cover but not the UK car bit), but our local Vauxhall dealer say its an import and value it as such (ie £1250 under the online Network Q thingy from Glass' guide) Who is right? -

Dealer Penalty for Imports 11 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Are dealers, main dealers especially, still knocking a huge chunk of part-ex value on UK spec. foreign imports? Does the UK conformity cert. make any difference? Or is there still the prejudice and sucking of teeth? If so, what percentage are they knocking off the value? Simon -
Car Import 10 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Was wondering what people thought about the following; There is a Ford Dealer who imports cars originally from Guernsey. They seem to be good quality/low mileage vehicles. They have to be re-registed here in order to be sold in the UK. Unfortunately there is no way of doing any kind of HPI check on them ? -
