  Does anyone know how to go about importing a used car from Europe. What needs to be done so you can drive it back, how do you register it in the uk, are there any taxes to be paid etc.. Any info would be appreciated.

  Hi, Can someone kindly advise as to the problems and pitfalls of buying a Malta import? The car in question is a Ford Focus 1.0 Zetec spec, the spec seems identical to the UK spec. The price is considerably cheaper than a pre reg UK spec car. What are the pitfalls? Cons? Problems?

  I have an old-style Ford Focus 1.6 Ghia which I bought as an unregistered import from Motorpoint in 2005 - it is registered on an 05 plate. I recently went to my local Ford dealer to test drive a new Mondeo. When enquiring about my car as a part-ex I was offered £4400 for it & the salesman told me that if it was a UK car I would have been offered £5200 & that this is standard for imports.

  I'm considering importing my next car (as you might have guessed from my contribution to the "New Mini Help" thread). I'm looking for a Ford, but the final spec isn't yet decided. In the FAQs, HJ suggests ringing european dealers (more or less at random) to find out whether they are ready and willing to quote for UK imports.

  I am looking at a used Prius import from a garage but it doesn't flag up on any of the .gov or TFL webpages with a validated Euro class status.   Is there anyone interested in importing Irish cars that are over 3L? Car tax in Ireland is over €1800 for a 3L and over. I know it's more reasonable in the UK. If anyone is interested let me know. At the minute I have 2 Mercedes S500 Lwb.

  I didn't set out to by an import but was offered a very low price on a new Mazda Atensa (sold here as a Mazda6 TC). Very pleased with the car but it has a really naf radio. Mazda dealer reckons they cannot help. Anyone know of a really knowledgeable radio company in the South East.
