Baleno speedo - is there a problem with reading when it's bright? 16 Aug 2016 (Ask HJ)
I had a test drive in a Suzuki Baleno this morning, which I loved, but noticed that under certain light levels (it was bright) the speed indents for 30,... -
Volkswagen Polo - 115mph Average in Polo 1.4 13 Jun 2016 (Forum)
We honestly thought there would be an error, or she was passed by a m/c as she went through a camera. We had not heard anything until last week. Essex police are taking her to court for this offence, even though the top speed of her car was 107mph new in 2002. We intend to fight this fully, but have received some ludicrous quotations from severall law firms to represent us. -

No CCTV footage and driver denying liability :( 13 Aug 2010 (Forum)
At this point I phoned the police and basically gave a running commentary of what was occurring. The guy was so aggressive, but calmed down once I pointed out the cctv cameras. To cut a long story short, I damaged my shoulder quite badly and I'm still receiving treatment. The police traced the owner (not the driver), who then supplied the driver's info. He eventually turned up at a police station several weeks after the incident, but is denying all liability ( I would have loved to have heard his tale) and the CCTV cameras never picked up the incident. -
Speaks with conviction 7 Aug 2010 (Ask HJ)

Taiwan top for radar trapping? 17 Apr 2006 (Forum)
What is noticeable is that sticking to the speed limit doesn't upset anyone and, yes, there are BMWs. Other motoring things noticed: either side overtaking traffic light cameras many motorway cameras mostly around junctions tow trucks in big cities wide scooter lanes in most towns and often in the country signposting mostly English as well as Chinese but it helps to know road numbers the occasional Rover 600 and the odd Freelander Toyotas, Toyotas, Toyotas Don't try drag racing at the lights with a Kia Picanto EuroStar automatic! -
Laser alert - worth it? 23 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I don't know how to explain this without advocating speeding (which I will say, in some cases is perfectly safe) but I have seen this product. http://www.tradingdirect.co.uk/system/index.html I know it will only provide protection from camera and laser vans but I wanted to ask people's opinions of this product. Could people please check it out and let me know if it really is going to work. I understand that it is difficult to test once you get the product as you can't just go out and find a camera van (but I bet you if I didn't get it there would be plenty!) -
NIP * 2 28 Jun 2024 (Forum)
While they're working at any given time either could be the driver. They're caught by an average speed camera driving above the speed limit for their vehicle. A NIP/S172 notice goes to their employer. Employer after all diligence cannot say with certainty who was driving, just that it would be one of Fred or George. -
Ulez extension 5 Aug 2023 (Forum)
If all goes well for Mr Khan then next month the ULEZ will cover a huge chunk of London. Apparently some residents are vandalising the new cameras out of desparation as reasonable arguments are ignored and Khan knows best of course. Some folks will suddenly have to fork out £12.50 I believe every journey except December 25th. I guess other cities will be watching how it goes before launching their own schemes, Drivers have paid their dues to use Britain’s roads and I would love someone who knows to explain the legal ramifications. -
Mazda - Beyond stop line 9 Jun 2023 (Forum)
I did not actually go through a red light but I'm worried as the law says every part of the vehicle has to be before the stop line when the light tienes Red. I don't think I saw any red light traffic cameras in any case. -
All - Dirty Backsides 25 Feb 2023 (Forum)
Of more concern perhaps is the fact that you can hardly see a rear number plate on some cars let alone read it. Perhaps a dirty car is becoming a badge of honour or more so the speed cameras cannot read the plate. The chances of being pulled by plod is very low> -
Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 04-05-2019 Part 1 14 May 2019 (Forum)
re:ACC, these systems work perfectly when designed and built well. The VW system was done on the cheap and so is very poor, the BMW system in the i3 uses a camera and so fails whenever the sun is out! Lexus first fitted ACC to its cars more than 15 years ago, and the system still works perfectly on 15 year old Lexus cars. There is a reason that German cars don’t show the same reliability.......
