  • Astra, 'Exhaust emission? light 24 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Hi, A friend of mine has a 6 month old Astra. This morning it wouldn?t start when first tried. It then started but the ?Exhaust emission? light came on and has stayed on. Her dealer says that they can?t look at the car for a week. Question is, can she drive the car in the meantime without doing any harm to the car and without being in any danger?
  • T-Cut????? 8 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Morning all, I was walking the dog last night and happened upon two young lads waxing their car in the drive. The car in question was a tatty old Escort...H reg I think in red. As I got nearer it became apparant that they were using T-Cut over the entire car. I was under the impression that this takes a layer of paint off and should only be used on scratches.

  • Easy DIY Oil Change Advice 29 Jan 2002 (Forum)
I've always done my oil changes in the past by reaching under the car to get to the sump nut but either with advancing years or lower cars (suspect the former!) I can no longer reach. How do most people do home oil changes, ramps or axle stands? when the car is at an angle surely all the old oil does not flow out?
  • Citroen C5 - citroen 18 Dec 2012 (Forum)
had the car from new, less then 2 years old 15,000 miles on the clock. On the dual carriageway, clutch failed. Car towed back to main dealer who said it was not covered under the warranty and i had to pay £650 as it was considered to be "drivers misuse".

  • Daewoo Nubira (1997 - 2003) - 97 1.6 Washer jet query 18 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Hi, Our second car is an old Nubira -- one thing that irritates me about this car is that the washer jets come on fractionally *after* the wipers start to move, and about a second or two after I've pulled the stalk toward me.
  • Buying a "defunct" reg plate 11 Mar 2008 (Forum)
When I was little (early 70s) my father had a reg plate that for no particular reason became quite special to us as a family and he transferred into another car. It seems not to be registered to any car now so I assume it is now defunct. Is there anyway of getting the DVLA to resurrect it? It would make a sentimental gift for the old boy.

  • Today is 57-day - so what? 7 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Spent a lot of time helping my employer to get the '57' cars finally ready for the big customer onslaught this morning. Is there any actual advantage gained by the new reg. system compared with the old? - we now have 2 blips during the year instead of one, and a massive distorting factor in the car idustry and market.
  • Towing scrap vehicles 17 May 2007 (Forum)
I have recently noticed a recovery vehicle parking at night with what is obviously a car on its way to the scrap yard on the back. It is the type of truck where the vehicle on tow has its front wheels suspended in a cradle and its rear wheels on the road. I realise that these old cars need to be transported to the scrap yard but is it legal to park them in the street overnight?
  • dare i mention odometers? 24 Jul 2006 (Forum)
The customer services team for my make of car, a european car, one year old, claim that prior to the pdi inspection the uk insert is calibrated in kilometers. This is changed to miles at pdi. Any comments? Also whilst on the subject - if I accidentally zero the odometer is it possible to restore the mileage figure and if so how might this be achieved?

How long can I expect the battery to last? It is just comming up on 4 years old the car starts no problem, but if it's not started for a couple of days it sounds if it is cranking a bit slow and the stop sign on the multi fuction display illuminates briefly. The car is a 2000 passat 115pd it has done around 48,000 miles.
