  • 306 D Turbo - Fuel Starvation. 20 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Now as the car hasnt started when I withdraw the glowplug would I be correct in assuming that I should be able to see diesel on the glowplug, but at the mo they are dry, could this mean that I am not getting fuel through to the combustion chamber? If so any advice? Many thanks Danny
  • Three Per Cent Off Your Fuel 14 Jun 2006 (Forum)
http://www.gemoney.co.uk/html/creditcard/everyday_creditcardproductpage.shtml This is a credit card that pays three per cent cashback on fuel and groceries, or, to be precise, purchases from petrol stations and food retailers. I've applied for one, which probably means it's jinxed. It'll be my third cashback card: the others either drastically reduced the rate or stopped offering cashback altogether.
  • citroen picasso c/lock and fuel gauge 3 Feb 2006 (Forum)
bought a 52 plate 1.6sx last week been back in the garage twice for the two faults listed above.the c/lock would some times fail to lock the car and even using the key in the lock would still fail to lock the car.other times the car would lock but when i came back to the car the locks had opened again.the fuel gauge never shows a true reading,if i fill the tank up it only shows around 3/4 full after driving for 100 miles it is under 1/2 tank.anybody had these problems and if so what was the outcome.thanks.

  • More 2nd Hand Vehicle after sales faults 25 Jan 2003 (Forum)
My brother bought in last year a Vauxhall Brava 4x4 pick up 1995 M from a 4x4 independent specialist, we have subsequently discovered that there are two severe cracks and corrosion in the rear chassis members running all the way from the rear to the cab, this is following problems with air getting into the fuel system, due to corroded fuel lines and fuel tank leaking. Is there any comeback, the Vauxhall dealer says that it couldn't have legally passed its MOT with this corrosion. The Vauxhall dealer said contact trading standards etc.
  • Alfa 146 Fuel Injection Problem 21 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Hi I've got a Alfa 146ti on a P plate, on sunday evening the fuel injection warning light came on, I cant get it down a garage for at least 2 weeks. Does anybody know what the problem could be, i put some wynns in it yesterday but theres no change yet (how quick does that stuff work?
  • Vectra 2.0 Di fuel pump 8 Mar 2002 (Forum)
I wrote a while ago with the problem of a vectra that ran sluggish from cold every now and then. Well the time has come where it's not running at all and on quick inspection they think it's the fuel pump and the none official price quote was very high indeed. Does anyone know how long these units should last for miles/years and if it's worthwhile/possible to buy reconditioned or non vauxhall units, the guy at the garage suggest the pumps cost from £700 - 2000 + VAT depending on type and needless to say I really can't afford that.
  • Have BP or shell admitted to not enough detergent? 1 Feb 2018 (Forum)
Is there an instance anywhere of a BP or Shell representative stating that their standard fuels do not have sufficient levels of detergent or cleaning properties to keep a new or already clean engine clean? If not, anyone in a position to pose such a question? All the data I can find for the premium fuels are for an already dirty engine (claims that they clean off the carbon deposits), or are comparisons vs fuels with no detergents in them.
  • Vauxhall Zafira A - fuel pump 25 Jul 2015 (Forum)
Two weeks ago whilst at work it just wouldn't start, no warning lights or signs to tell me something was wrong beforehand.  after a lot of investigation it was narrowed down to a fault on the fuel pump/ ecu. My car is currently off the road being repaired.     Today I used my husbands car for work. A 2004 1.9 dci Renault megane. Started fine then all of a sudden wouldn't start,  had it looked at and again have been told it is the fuel pump.
  • Focus / CMax 1600ccTDCi - fuel issue / limp home 6 Sep 2014 (Forum)
Hi I have read about a possible issue with the fuel filter becoming  easily blocked with emulsion, and the car going into limp home mode.  This happened to me and with a fuel error coming up on the diagnostic,  we changed the filter and all has been OK.
  • 1993 VW POLO mk3. - FUEL or SPARKS 25 Feb 2013 (Forum)
It currently drives fine for anything between 8-15 miles then the engine cuts out with symptoms like fuel starvation.  It might start a few minutes later but it'll die just as quickly.  If however it's left for a while it'll run again for quite some time.  I need to check that a fuel mist is entering the carburation unit under the air cleaner (I'm not expecting a problem here as it runs well when running) and I have checked for a spark which is not the best but it is a spark.
  • 55 Ford Focus 1.8 tdci - 55 Focus tdci Bad Fuel Economy 4 Feb 2011 (Forum)
The clutch isn't slipping so I don't think that is a problem and the tyres are at the correct pressure. I have read that a sudden loss of fuel economy can be down to a failing turbo unit? Any ideas anyone?
  • Renault Clio 1 Petrol (1991 - 1998) - 94 1.4 hi fuel consumption 23 Nov 2008 (Forum)
hi all .... i've had a renault clio I RT auto 94 for 7 months... after driving a frontera 2.2 lwb for the past 8 years .....wow its cheap to run.... well it was, its gone from about 40mpg to under 20mpg if im gentle.... its running normally.... i did the usual checks, all connections, plugs, leads... i took the air filter off and ran it, i can see lots of fuel coming from the single injector into the throttle body, i know visually there is too much fuel going in but i dont know the cause.. i'm told the lambda sensor would cause this but im not sure if im testing it right, putting the multi-meter probes into the terminals on the multi connector what readings should i get.... what else should i be testing ?...
  • Peugeot 405 Diesel (1988 - 1996) - 1994 1.9TD Fuel problem 24 Oct 2008 (Forum)
When i came back it would not start, the engine turned over fine but it wasn't even trying to fire up. I primed the fuel system using the squidgy rubber pump and it fired up no problem. The car hasn't been left more than a couple of days since and has been fine with no starting or running problems until last night. The car has just been sat for 4 days and when i came to use it last night i had the same problem, i primed the fuel system and it started fine and it started fine this morning.
  • 306 1.9TD changed the fuel pump-Problems 24 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I recently tried to 'turn up' my 1998 306 Td by messing with the maximum fuel settings and boost settings. There is a black grommit on the lucas fuel pump that has to be removed so to 'turn it up'. But i broke the grommit, and had to buy a second hand pump, as grommits can not be bought for love nor money and trying to fit one was no good either.
  • Fuel pumps? 11 May 2005 (Forum)
Okay, I accept this is going to make me seem really dumb, but anyway...recently I've noticed that the fuel pumps at Sainsbury's have been sort of 'snapping back' a lot (I don't know the technical term, but when you pull the release trigger, and it jsut doesn't let you have nething till you ease off). It happens only at Sainsbury's which I think's a bit weird, and I've noticed the gauge never seems to go up as much as I'd expect (25 litres of fuel ought to make the gauge up to about 1/2, as it does normally I'd have thought...though I accept this could be psycho-somatic).

  • Ford 1.8D Start Problem (Again!!!!) 24 Mar 2003 (Forum)
The car eventually starts after a lot of cranking then runs fine all day long, until the next frost - so I replaced the glow plugs. No improvement. I changed the fuel filter. No improvement - in fact the problem has recently got worse and the car now fails to start completely. I have tried bleeding air from filter unit bleedscrew but when turning the engine over there is no fuel coming out (although I can get fuel at the injector unions!).
  • Computed fuel consumption 11 Mar 2003 (Forum)
However the display is continuously responding to throttle opening, as consumption immediately increases when climbing hills, so clearly it is metering the fuel injected - but it doesn't know precisely what the quantity is. Can anyone out there throw light on the method?
