  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 00 2.0 HDi Aux Belt Removed, Cannot Start! 23 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Am I missing something - as far as I can tell, theres nothing powered from the aux belt that should stop the car starting (Alternator, Air con, power steering is all?) I checked all plugs in the vicinity and nothing looks loose. Found fuel inertia switch had popped up and reset but still no joy - car turns over really fast - see almost 500rpm on the speedo but nothing!
  • Hyundai Getz (2002 - 2008) - Hyundai Getz (x2) 30k report 26 Jul 2009 (Forum)
After 2/3years the loss they make is huge compared to smaller vehicles. Staff dont mind the smaller vehicles as long as they have 5 doors, air con and a cd player. It has saved us a small fortune.
  • Volkswagen Fox (2006 - ) - Just bought a Fox, good buy or not? 5 May 2009 (Forum)
and spent nearly £3000 spec-ing it up to above Urban trim levels including black paint, electric pack (windows, mirrors, remote locking, alarm), colour coding (bumpers, mirrors, side strips), air con, side airbags. The garage also threw in paint/interior protection, mats, boot liner, mudflaps and I bought a chrome strip for the bootlid to finish it off. All in all it was about £10,000 worth of Fox for £7,500.
  • Drink Driving...help please 28 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I asked a chap from the local vauxhall dealer to do me a quote for the repairs that would be needed. a brief list would include; new headlights and fogs new bumper front wing radiator air con unit/fan respray doors/bonnet full new front suspension sort out bent sub frame at least two new alloys and new tyres new mirror and various other smaller bits i suppose. In short he has done a real number on what was an excellent car.
  • Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - 2.0T S - 124k FVSH - good buy? 13 Mar 2008 (Forum)
A couple of minor trim creaks only. Otherwise quiet and refined. Good spec - all electrics, part leather, radio/CD, cruise, air-con (all working) Things wrong with it: It's falsely reporting a blown sidelight bulb One of the boot lid struts is broken Minor scuffing on bumper corners. Shortly in need of two front tyres. It's going in Autotrader at £2800, but he's offered it to me for £2,500 My concerns are: 120k on a turbo petrol engine.
  • Peugeot 406 Diesel Playing Up 3 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Also when you change gear the needle tends to drop rather than swoop. 4) The tape won't play tapes and swaps sides until it turns itself back onto the tuner. 5) The electronic climate control seems to have a off time as well. The Temp only goes down to 14 and also the fan speed can be a bit dodgy. Air con doesn't seem to work very well but I'm not fussed about that. 6) The rear screen element sometimes doesn't work. 7) When pulling away in lower gears it seems very slow and has trouble getting upto 35-45 mph.
  • Lights, Complex????? 11 Mar 2002 (Forum)
I checked the bulbs which were OK, I used the rear fog light switch to illiminate that, still no joy, I swapped the relay with the air con relay which are identicle, still no joy. I decided to ask my "friendly" local main dealer as to whether i could have faulty wiring in my vehicle and should I be booking it in under warranty. The only help they seemed to want to give me was "are you sure there are bulbs in".
  • Bought a car that is not as described - what can we do? 9 May 2016 (Ask HJ)
My son test drove a Mercedes-Benz SLK200 last week. The seller was not available but his girlfriend let my son test drive the car which he agreed to buy...
  • 59 Ibiza TDI 1.6 - To keep or not? 10 Jun 2021 (Forum)
Bearing in mind the car is 11.5 years old and has done 130k, also is overdue on timing belt replacement (every 4 years on this model), so another 500-600 Inc water pump etc. Then there is the other minor issue of air con not working due to broken pump again probably 400-500. They also mentioned a slight coolant leak although although I don't seem to lose any if at all. So all in I could be looking at £1500-£1700 bill, or £1000 at best to fix the wiring/sensor and do timing belt.
  • Good lowish insurance group car for large young driver 11 Aug 2018 (Forum)
Some cars feel that everything touches when you a large person eg Ford Focus Possibilities thus far, Golf 3dr, or would you believe Citigo or Up 3dr (I think it may be too small though for up and down the motorway) I ended up buying my Superb II to fit myself in and he likes driving it although he complains in this weather that the air con freezes his hands to the steering wheel! I could pass this on to him but Insurance still a bit crazy for a 22 year old (The Octavia is cheap because it's just the 75ps 1.416v) This forum suggested a Honda Jazz a few years ago as an idea for my sister who is not quite as tall (6ft) but needed to carry a double bass - which she now owns and loves.
  • Citroen C1 - Misdescribed car sale 13 Mar 2015 (Forum)
Hi All, After some advice about misdescribing of a vehicle I've purchased. The car (Citroen C1 VTR, £2900) was listed on ebay as having Air Con, but when I went to inspect the car I didn't check it was working (it was cold and it didn't even cross my mind to), but upon getting home it suddenly dawned on me that there isn't even a button on the dash for it and the car doesn't, in fact, have AC installed.
  • Stop/Start system failure with new Qashqai 27 Oct 2014 (Ask HJ)
I bought a new Qashqai 1.6 diesel here in Cyprus in May 2014. I have taken it back to the dealer three times now due to 'System failure' message appearing...
  • Ford Modeo 2003 - Intermittent dashboard fault 28 Sep 2013 (Forum)
I have to use my sat nav to work out what speed I'm doing instead. The only dial that works all the time is my petrol one.  My other current issue is my air con won't switch off at all. So I'm going through fuel like nobodies business. As it comes and goes it is very difficult to diagnose.  The dash was sent off for diagnostics but they couldn't find the fault.
  • Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - 2002 1.4TDCI ? injectors or pump 26 May 2012 (Forum)
Help we are coming to the end of our tether. We got the fiesta 1.4 tdci 3 years ago with approx 25,000 on the clock ran lovely for the first 2 1/2 years. We had wheel bearing done at 30,000 miles then water pump shortly after.A bit of the air con unit fell off last year. Then the fun began. In July 08 we developed an intermittent ticking which went when the engine warmed up.Then we started to get diesel fumes in the car.Went to two garages one said number 3 injector had gone the other said all the seals needed replacing.Had the seals replaced with the brushes/bushes and returned with a distinct lack of power.Could just get up to 70mph ticked over ok no smell of fumes but nowhere near the same amount of power.Cut a long story short car has been back and forth up to 15 times since. Its been on the ford diagnostic machine which shows no faults. The manifold cover was checked. It has been off the road since October after its last trip to the garage when they told me they had taken the injectors off to get them tested ( ?
  • Economical reliable commuting diesel, help please! 26 Oct 2009 (Forum)
It is the "elite" model with leather trim, climate etc, has brand new MOT and 6 mths tax, and is pretty clean and tidy inside and out. On the downside, the rear brake discs need changed (just done the fronts), the air-con fan is squealing, and the service history can best be described as "partial" (20k, 40k, 55k, 100k, 120k, 135k, not main dealer). It's had timing belt, radiator and EGR valve all replaced this year.
  • Skoda Octavia II (2004 - ) - Five weeks with the Octavia 6 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Boot really is huge and swallowed everything we would have put in the Honda for the trip to France (and the Honda was an estate which we would load up to seat level). Performance and economy did not suffer that much with the load (still 55mpg loaded and with air con on most of the time). Stereo is good although the CD changer is largely redundant (must get around to recording some MP3 CDs!) and son is here for the weekend so will try his IPOD out in the Aux socket.

  • My new way to save some diesel 28 Jun 2006 (Forum)
I have dusted off my old mountain bike - a Dawes model I bought back in 1984 and made with 531 racing tubing. It is light as a feather with 18 gears and I have a gel saddle cover. It has none of the mod cons like suspension of current models, but it does what it says on the tin - it gets me from A to B. The tyres and tubes were replaced last year for the first time and everything works as it should. It will feel great to be back on the saddle and out in the fresh air.
  • Mazda MPV 7 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Standard equipment was very good and offered everything I want/need. The sunroof was very nice and a bonus in a car with air-con. I was, however, a little disappointed with the seating. At around 5'8" tall I found the head/ shoulder room available in the middle outside seats very limited. Also the various seating configurations were limited by the fact that none of the seats swivelled and strangely, the rearmost 2 seats apparently would not fold flat in the same was as the middle ones.
  • Insurance for young driver. Chipped MINI 9 Jan 2004 (Forum)
In answer to your question Lee, I did opt for the Mini in the end :D I went for an all black mini one with quite a few extra\'s - went for sports seats, red and silver interior, 17inch s spoke alloys, air con, sports suspension, salt pack, cooper chrome pack, Cooper S steering wheel, etc..have recently added a kenwood stereo and also a Cooper S spoiler - oh, and some chromed indicator panels. I am very pleased with the car and its great fun to drive.
