  • BMW 520D E60 2006 - DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER - REPLACMENT COST 3 Dec 2013 (Forum)
Hi The iDrive is suggesting the DPF will need changing soon.  Can someone let me know what I should be expecting to pay for this job please? I seem to be seeing widely varying costs for the parts and also not sure how many hours labour this usually is.

  • Main dealer advises not to buy their new cars 22 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Enquiring about the whole range of diesels - advised best not to buy any of them due to DPF`s and wifes ultra short journey use. Top marks for honesty from the sales guy - who consulted the service manager while I was on the phone. But what a choker for a desperate industry that needs to sell new cars or face going under.
  • Petrol or diesel 7 Aug 2022 (Forum)
My annual milage on longer trips will be about 5000 but they will all be long enough to regenerate a DPF.  Any thoughts/advice very welcome.
  • Toyota Rav 4 2.0 diesel 65 place 2WD - May I have your views 21 Apr 2018 (Forum)
With 44k miles Intended use is for urban work with very little fast runs. With problems reported with the Dpf on HJ reviews doesn't look promising. Grateful your views?
  • 10 Apr 2018 (Forum)
Why don't manufacturers use the engine management system of diesel cars to alert the driver when DPF regeneration is in progress, with a message advising that the engine should be kept running until it is completed? Similarly, when a turbo has been running under heavy load, the EMS could intervene to prevent the driver switching the engine off until it's had a chance to cool off.

  • Volkswagen T5 Camper / Van - PD Engines ? 30 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Could anyone tell me if there are any engines to avoid as they don't seem to follow the same outputs as VAG road cars (84 & 102PS). I want to avoid DPF's and later versions (BXE?) Any help welcome.
  • Citroen Berlingo Multispace - Diesel Particulate Filters? 11 May 2013 (Forum)
Does the current model Berlingo Multispace have a DPF? I think they started in 2008 and wondered if the early models might not have them as my mileage would not suit a car fitted wiith one but I still want a diesel so might have to look at the earlier model.
  • FIAT Doblo - To Doblo or not to Doblo? 20 May 2010 (Forum)
I have an 08 Doblo 1.3 multijet but am having problems with the DPF, mainly because I do lots of short journeys. Otherwise it is great! Should I trade in for a new petrol Doblo whilst my current one has some value or stick with my 1.3 diesel? Tempted by 0% finance and put off my diesel in the long term as planned to keep it for few years.
  • Ford Focus Estate - 1.0 Ecoboost vs 1.6 TDCI 29 Feb 2024 (Forum)
Which would be the safer bet for reliabilty and potential repair costs, the ecoboost or the TDCI? The TDCI would save me slightly more in fuel, but obviously introduced a DPF which is a big potential drawback over the ecoboost. Thanks for any help, all opinions welcome and appreciated.
  • Why is my Mazda 5 cutting out? 21 Feb 2015 (Ask HJ)
My Mazda 5 1.6 diesel has started to cut out. The car does a 30-40 mile journey once a week and longer ones once a month. I also use Shell V-Power once...
  • Renault Captur 1.5dCi - Check Anti-Pollution System 10 May 2022 (Forum)
Over the past three weeks the car has done close on 1500 miles, the majority on motorways, so I’m confident the DPF should be clear. I’m thinking it’s a sensor issue, but without a code reader I’ve no way of narrowing down the search. Anyone any ideas? 19 registered, 26K miles.
  • Car for Disabled Mum 18 Apr 2022 (Forum)
Are there any van conversions that the forum can recommend that can take a wheelchair, ideally allowing the wheelchair to be in the passenger seat position or allow movement between the loaded wheelchair (with passenger) and then the passenger transferring to the passenger seat? No diesels please with a DPF please as mileage is under 5k per year.  Many thanks!
  • 2018 2.2d - Mazda6 diesels 1 Mar 2021 (Forum)
I do around 25-30k a year so the car will be with me until at least the 150k mark. I am well aware of the dpf issues and have suffered badly with them on a BMW. But for the mileage and usage is it such a bad bet for me??
