Breakdown cover recommendation 5 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I know this is a well-worn path, but my breakdown cover is up for renewal. I'm currently with 'Autonational Rescue' and cover for two cars is about £85 PA. Checked with 'breakdown-direct' (link on right of page) and they quote about the same (for b/down and recovery, but excluding homestart). -
PAS piston cover 31 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Hi all, I own a 306 xsi with power steering, upon looking under the car i noticed the plastic \'bag\' cover over the steering piston had become completely shredded - due to wear and tear - so i\'ve removed the remains of the bag, leaving just the piston on show to the elements. -

Break down cover 12 May 2007 (Forum)
I have a 98 Honda Civic with 80k, it is dealer maintained on time every time. I don't have break down cover. Should I? My theory is I bought a good car and take good care of it. I have never broke down in 16 years of driving, but is my luck going to run out? One other theory I have is that by not having cover has saved me 16 annual subscriptions so if they charge £800 to tow me home I'm still in pocket. -
any - Driving Snow Covered Cars 2 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Just been out to town. There's loads of folks driving about with snow covered cars. Fools! A woman was killed in the last snows when she braked and the snow on her roof slid off over the screen - the wipers couldn't cope with the weight and she had a crash unable to see. Not only that, but the snow blowing off the roof effectively means the car behind is driving through a blizzard! -
No Green Card= no comprehensive cover? 1 May 2007 (Forum)
Last year I drove to France and obtained a Green Card from Direct Line, as I was told that without it my comprehensive cover was reduced to third party cover on the continent. I've since been told by a friend that the sole purpose of a green card was to prove to the authorities that you have at least third party cover. -

Considering buying a car cover 17 Apr 2019 (Forum)
Hi - I have a VW Corrado in flash red, now thirteen years old, and no matter how much I polish it, within a couple of weeks the top panels are a completely different colour from the rest of the car. I am now considering buying a car cover. If any backroomers have any good or bad experiences with these or any recommendations please let me know. I've ruled out a nylon one for obvious reasons and the car is parked on my driveway so there should not be any legal problems. -
TYVEK Car Covers - OK for Convertibles ? 12 May 2006 (Forum)
Have just bought a celica convertible and went to Halfords to get a TYvek car cover. Material is supposed to be breathable, waterproof etc. Was just about to take one of the boxes to the checkout when I noticed one of the boxes had a little round yellow sticker with "Caution do not use on soft-top convertibles" in small writing. -
Steel wheels - still available? 9 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I mean decent looking ones that aren't hidden behind plastic covers. You see them on vans, where they look fine, but on cars you only seem to get grotty ones with covers, or alloys. Are there any new cars available with cover-less steel wheels? And why aren't they generally available - are they just trying to get us to shell out for more expensive alloys? -
No more Cover Notes? 7 Jun 2006 (Forum)
The new Dwightmobile arried before my old Car Insurance expired and with only a month left NFU required me to take out a 13 month Certificate instead of simple amendie Reg No. On the bits and pieces that arrived with the new Insurance was a note to the effect that because of MIB database no longer will Cover Notes of Insurance be issued and if premium is not paid before exiry date of Certificate then use beyond will not be covered unlike the old Cover Note scheme. -

All modern stuff - MOT - obstructive beauty covers and undertrays 8 Oct 2021 (Forum)
The MOT testers in some instances write in the advisory section that undertray or engine cover is fitted obstructing inspection and still let the car pass. Why don't the tester remove the stupid things and check for potential problems? -

Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - Frayed stitching on leather covered steering wheel 1 Apr 2009 (Forum)
What's the best way to prevent further fraying of the stitching on my car's leather (?) covered steering wheel? Alternatively, is the stitching purely decorative (i.e. not functional) and can therefore be ignored?
