Are brakes covered in the sales of goods act?

I bought an '06 ML350 from a main dealer and after 4 months/4500 miles they are saying it needs new pads and disks all the way round. Would this be covered under the sales of goods act?

Obviously there was some wear on the discs and brake pads when you bought the car, but it was not necessary to replace them at that time so I think this is simply a matter of wear and tear, as tyres that wore down to the limit in 4 months and 4,500 miles would be.
