  • 406 HDI Fuel/Oil Temp Gauge Fault 11 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Hi, I currently have a fault on my X reg 2000 406 Rapier Estate (90). On the instument panel the fuel gauge does not work, it sits right at the bottom (empty) end of the gauge and never moves. However the oil temp gauge displays how much fuel I have eg goes to the 'hot' end of the scale when I fill up with diesel and goes down as I use it.
  • Expanding Huyndai Fuel Tank 10 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Just bought a new Hyundai Trajet Diesel Auto. Very pleased with so far (100 miles)! Fuel capacity is supposedly 65 litres according to handbook and marketing literature. The now retired V6 had a 75 litre tank. The car came with 18 miles on it (it was delivered to us) and about 1/8 tank of fuel.

  • Expensive day - easy money 15 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Fortunately, I have AA cover, first time needed in 8 years membership. When I relayed to the operator what the symptoms were he asked if I'd recently added fuel. My hand hit my head! Yes, unleaded in a diesel car. Three hours and £225 the poorer, after no more than 15 miutes work by their fuel recovery service I was on my way. First time I've ever misfuelled in 11 years of diesel ownership!

  • Mondeo ST TDCi - fuel system emergency! 3 Nov 2006 (Forum)
My wife's 2005 Mondeo ST TDCi 2.2 broke down on friday in the pouring rain. Only just 10,000 miles on the clock. I thought it was the fuel pump as did the AA man. Today the Ford dealer has called to say that water contamination in the diesel has caused the fuel pump to break down and pass metal filings into the fuel system. The implication is that the diesel she filled up with 200 miles ago, contained water (no mention of a larger problem caused by the monsoon-like weather here last week).

  • Why do direct injection petrol engines get carbon 27 Feb 2019 (Forum)
...build-up, and direct injection diesel don't? I've read that normal petrol engines are OK as the petrol acts as a solvent on the way into the cylinder and cleans deposits away. As diesel is a 'sooty' fuel anyway and diesels have been direct injection for ages, why don't they get the same problem?

  • Possibly using red diesel...consequences of.. 5 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Without being too specific, a 'neighbour' was woken up last week by a knock on the door and a white van parked outside bearing the words 'HM Customs & Excise Fuel Testing Unit'. It was generally common knowledge that this person was filling his commercial, and private cars, from a tank at the rear of the property. If red diesel was being used, what are the consequences?

  • Vauxhall astra diesel astrolife A/CCDTI 2010 - slow stuttering after having new EGR fitted 25 Jan 2017 (Forum)
Our car was losing power so we had new EGR fitted, when it was collected from the garage when accelerating it was almost as if the car would pause and then move forward again repeatedly,we discovered it had a hole in the fuel tank and tank was virtually empty. So we had a new fuel tank fitted but the car is still doing the pausing then moving forward action when accelerating, the garage doesn't know what it is so we took it to a diesel specialist and all tests show everything is working fine, Has anyone else had this and if so what was it and how do we stop it happening.
