It seems it`s make or break for Schumacher over the next few races -given the team have built a car to his wishes. Any guesses for his finishing position in Spain? I have him in 6th place -
"Bonus" points on your driving licence? 3 Jun 2009 (Forum)
"In three years time drivers with a clean record will have as many as 15 points on their licence [Spanish system works in reverse to UK - you start with 12 points, and deductions made for an offence] The DGT traffic authority in Spain is to hand out 40 million extra licence points to some 21 million good drivers from next month. Those with a clean record since the points system was introduced [in 2006] will get two extra points, taking them to 14, and if they continue for another three years they will get an extra point to reach 15" Good idea? -
Driving Madrid-Malaga 28 Oct 2006 (Forum)
A colleague here is honeymooning in Spain in a couple of weeks, flying into Madrid and driving down to Malaga. Hotels each end are booked, but he wants advice on a nice place to stop on the way down for lunch, and any unmissable spots round Malaga way (Gibralta is high on the list, and he fancies taking a trip over to Morocco is that´s not too tricky). -
Europe and spare tyres 24 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I'm planning on going down to Europe for two weeks in the summer, mainly France, but possibly Austria, Germany, Swizerland and Italy as well. I've just read on another thread that in Spain, it's law that you have a spare tyre. Is this true in any other countries? I've got an Accord, and don't have a spare tyre, just a stupid foam inflator thing, so could be a bit of a problem. So, my question is - do I have a problem? -
Delivering an untaxed car to mainland Europe 10 Jul 2017 (Forum)
I have only ever delivered cars in the UK up to now but I have recently been asked to deliver one to Spain. The problem I have is that the vehicle is not taxed. Obviously my trade plates will enable me to get as far as the Eurotunnel but once I am in France I’m not sure how I stand with regards to tax… Can anyone advise? -
Renault - 92 2.1 New radiator is smaller - will it be okay ? 11 May 2009 (Forum)
Do you think the new radiator will be okay ? I'd hate it to overheat and blow a gasket, (particulary when I'm driving down to Spain in it). -
Skoda Fabia (2000 - 2007) - Importing my LHD car 1 Dec 2007 (Forum)
From a financial point of view, I think my car, 6 years old but in excellent condition, would be difficult to replace with an equivalent in the UK were I to sell it in Spain. Even if it costs a few bob to convert, I think it will still be cheaper than buying in the UK. -- Roger. (Costa del Sol, España) -
Are we patriotic about cars? 17 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Example: France - Citroen, Peugeot, Renault Germany - Mercedes, Audi, VW etc. Sweden - Volvo, Saab (Merc & Audi pretty well too) Spain - Seat (and Skoda too) Czech Rep - Skoda Netherlands - mostly European cars even USA - Ford, GM etc. (though many people buying Jap/Euro brands now) But see in Britain... Rarely you see British cars (well, they are out of reach for most of us) but probably you won't see more Japanese/Korean cars anywhere!!! -
Xantia radio code input instructions. 24 Jul 2006 (Forum)
We have the radio code and the radio asks for it every few days. However i've loaned the car to my uncle while he's over from Spain and he's managed to put the wrong code in! We have no books for it, and have no idea how to proceed from here. It is still showing the incorrect code that he input. He left the radio on for a couple of hours and it didnt sort of reset itself after then. -
Where can i buy a left hand drive 6 Feb 2006 (Forum)

One-handed steering 4 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I was a trifle disconcerted to see that Jason Plato on Five's 'Fifth Gear' the other night was driving the BMW from Spain to Blighty with only one hand on the steering wheel. This may have been an easier way when talking to camera but I got the impression, from his general demeanour, that he might be a serial one-hander driver except, of course, when he is using his doubtless skills on the track. -
Regulations for Driving on the Continent 19 Apr 2004 (Forum)
The didn't mention the usual stuff about red triangles, spare bulbs and first aid kits but the following might be of interest. 1. In Spain, if you need spectacles for driving, you must carry a spare pair with you. 2. In France it is illegal to contact the emergency services by mobile phone - only the roadside emergency phones will do. -
Small autoroute cruiser 29 Oct 2002 (Forum)
My cars do 3 miles to town,5 miles to the supermarket, 1 mile to the pub (when it is raining) or 1400 miles to the south of Spain. The long journeys call for excellent autoroute cruising--10 hour days behind the wheel, need good seats ,economy ,reasonable speed, reliability. The local runs call for little more than a gutsy battery. -
Rover 1.4 SLI with Rover Engine Doctor ! 2 Aug 2003 (Forum)
The car now has 118,000 miles on the clock that i've done. The majority of my miles now done traveling England to Spain where I know live. She's never gone to the garage. I do the basic yearly service. Now! my baby has developed a cough! and I'm still in spain. I've confidence she would make it back mechanically wise. -
What has the EU ever done for us? 13 Jul 2017 (Forum)
I think much of this is historic: France has never got over losing the Napoleonic War, resents the fact we rescued them from Nazi occupation (at considerable cost to us), De Gaulle showed no gratitude for all our help, France continued to supply Argentina with Exocet misslies and aircraft spares during the Falklands war, (their idea of solidarity with a fellow EU member). Spain also nurses grievances about the defeat of the Spanish Armada and the lossof Gibraltar, actively supported (and still supports) Argentina, again a fine example of support for an EU member. Don't forget, Spain takes most of the North Sea fish which used to be reserved for our fishing fleets before traitorous UK politicians conned the public into joining. -
"Help flash" - rooftop beacon for car breakdowns 15 Oct 2019 (Forum)
This is a natty little device recently homologated for use in Spain. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qQv9aRVbF4 It's a "Starsky & Hutch" style amber beacon to mount on the roof of a broken-down car. -
South coast motorway - why isn't there one? 3 Oct 2019 (Forum)
As an occasional visitor to the south coast area I am astonished at the inadequate infrastructure. At one time a Hastings-Honiton trunk road was proposed but never built. France, Spain and Portugal have built motorways a few miles inland to service their coastal area - why on earth haven't we? There's tons of room as anyone who's flown regularly over the coast in clear weather will appreciate. -
Any - Curiosity regarding French Law 30 Jul 2017 (Forum)
I'm curious about the snippet regarding French Law and recovery from the autoroute, as with a pal who's abut to embark on a motorcycle tour down to Spain it piqued my interest somewhat. Could someone please enlighten me as to what the author is referring to and if there's anything of note my mate should be aware of ahead of his journey? I assume it's more in relation to the author contatcing Land Rover Assistance as opposed to a recovery agent direct? -

Hyundai i10 - Speeding offence in UK by Overseas resident 11 Aug 2011 (Forum)
My daughter is resident in Spain. She recently spent 2 weeks in the UK with her family and I rented a car for her for this period. She and I were insured to drive but she was the only actual driver. I have just received a "Notice of Intended Prosecution" for a 30 mph speeding offence which occurred whilst my daughter was driving and asking for the name and adress of the driver.
