Breakdown cover 1 mile scam? 9 Jan 2024 (Forum)
There's not many people be wanting to push a car 0.5 miles back home. Why is that not included as standard? Seems a bit of a scam to me. Perhaps many people don't realise how far that is? Goto google maps, right click on your home, then click measure distance, and drag a 1 mile (or 1.6km) radius, pull it in all directions, and ask yourself, what would i do if my car broke down that far away. -
the dealers guide to scams..... 21 Nov 2017 (Forum)
But he was powerless to stop the system from automatically charging for the item, and had to put through a manual refund each time. I wonder how many other small items are used to scam punters? You only need a couple more like this one to pay for the managers annual salary. Very sneeky pool!!! Cheers Concrete -
Restaurant Parking Scam - Help Please!!!! 25 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Hi all, first time poster here so please be kind. I remember reading a while back on here about scams in supermarket car parks, and i can't find the thread after searching on here. I've recieved a Parking Charge Notice as my vehicle "returned during the 'No Return' period" at the location. The notice is from what appears to be an independent parking services company. -
Help! Has my friend been scammed? 11 Sep 2008 (Forum)
To me this sounds a very strange way of going about selling a car. Could there be any truth in it or has she been scammed. The dealer is well known and a fairly large dealership but something seems a bit odd about how they have gone about sorting the matter. I think my friend has been a bit silly by not asking enough questions and hopefully she hasnt bought a car that wasnt rightly for sale. -
BMW 3 Series E90 - URGENT HELP 30 Sep 2015 (Forum)
My car is up for sale, this guy comes up checks the car agrees to the deal, next day he transfers the money in my account immediately after which he messages he does not want the car anymore and asks for refund, kindly advice, is there any possibility of scam or anything fishy. He has been constantly texting and calling me for the refund, I am happy to refund his money but worried is this a new scam or money laundering fraud. -

Key Scam 14 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Today i was told about a new form of scam by a friend of mine who works in a dealership. Its more something for private sellers to watch out for though. People will come and see your car, usually a couple and they'll have fake keys which match the keys to the car, at some point when out of your sight they'll swap them over (if you give them just the key on its own its even easier for them to do this) hand your keys back, say they'll be in touch, wait for you to go inside then drive your car away with the real key. -
Rip-off Mercedes servicing 25 Nov 2005 (Forum)
All the local Merc dealers are owned by deleted , so doubtless they're all on the same scam, but as my commute is a 200ml round-trip, I'm sure I can find another dealer... Pete {If you're going to make acusations of scamming and being ripped off, I'd prefer that you keep names out of your posting, hence the deletion as it falls foul of our no name / shame policy. -

Ford Fiesta (2000 - 2002) - What to look out for when selling a car (scams?) 15 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I've had my 2000 Fiesta on sale in Autotrader for about three weeks now. I've already had one Nigerian scam email about it, and without wishing to sound racist, a lot of phone calls from dodgy-sounding people with poor English. If you look around online you'll find a lot of guides for what to look out for when buying a second-hand car, but very little if you're looking to sell one. -
Car rental in days gone by - scams 28 May 2009 (Forum)
It was actually the front of our hotel and parking the car that triggered this off - because there had been a shot of a man running in out of the darkness, kicking the cars door in and then running off. It had been a scam that more than a few people had been caught in and it turned out the BIL of the car hire proprietor used to kick the doors of the hire cars in and then the hirer was brought before the local Court a few days later to a massive claim for damages. -
The tyre scam 25 May 2004 (Forum)
If you plan to motor to the continent it is best to remember the tyre scam. As the attendant is filling your tank he will bend down and examine the front tyres closely. He will gesture to you to look at one of the tyres to see the big nail which is bedded into the tread.
