Which high-performance sports car should I buy? 15 Jun 2013 (Ask HJ)
I am a pensioner and have a budget of around £50,000 to treat myself to a 'fun' car before I am finally too old to enjoy driving. I have owned many high-performance... -
Clutch warranty claim - Maker will dispute 20 May 2012 (Forum)
However, they want me to commit to pay for the new clutch & fitting (approx £1500-2000) - they say they will want to examine the failing clutch before any admission of a faulty component. They have suggested that the clutch failure is due to mis-use i.e. holding the car on inclines using the clutch rather than the brakes. This is a ludicrous suggestion on three counts firstly, I simply do not follow this practice and never have in 10+yrs of owning cars with auto boxes; secondly, I live and drive almost entirely around Warwick where, as anyone who knows the area will confirm, there are precious few inclines where you can hold your car whether on the clutch or brakes. -

Buying imports from Channel Islands 25 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I'm very tempted to buy a car from a dealer who imports 'nearly new' cars (just a few months old) from the Channel Islands. They are apparently used mainly as hire cars and have just a few thou miles on the clock, they come with the balance of the manufacturers warranty (so usually about 2 to 2.5 years) and the dealer registers and supplies UK plates. -
Seat Leon Reliability 2 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Looking to buy a second family car and decided on a medium hatch. Have been offered a Leon 1.6S on a Y plate and know previous owner. Looking at various Car Survey websites though, the Leon looks to be nothing but trouble. Water leaks are well known and this car has had new door and boot seals under warranty. -
Volvo S90 - Oil dilution/DPF 23 Jul 2023 (Forum)
It further transpires that Volvo dealer and or Vlvo UK are saying it is down to driving style. The car is used at night as a executive tax and does on average 100 miles per shift in South West London/ Surrey. The car has done 10 k miles since purchased and has 6 months of warranty remaining. The first issue was reported within 30 days. -
Honda Civic - Brake Wear 6 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Why would the rear discs corrode and not the front on a regularly used car? Should the rear discs be covered by warranty? Thanks in advance. Durelli. -
valeting/scratches 23 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Just wondering what the consenus was with regard to car cleaning products. What is considered to be essential when cleaning a car properly (obviously a bucket and sponge).I have read reports of clay bars being used to thoroughly clean the paintwork prior to polishing, something I had never heard of.Prices vary greatly from products Halfords stock to "high-end" products that can cost £50 for a small tub (i.e. carnauba wax).Just curious to see if the stuff I am buying is a waste of time if I am looking for a "showroom" finish.I used o use Auto Glym and was happy with that but is it really any better than Turtle Wax products?? -

New Panda misfire 9 Nov 2005 (Forum)
On first driving off on cold mornings my New Panda with the 1.2 petrol engine seems to misfire just for a few seconds. As this engine is also used in the Punto, if there is a common fault I'm sure someone out there will be aware of it. OK, I know the car is under warranty and I could ask the dealer to look at it but it would be hard to reproduce the fault and if I can go to the dealer and say "I believe this fault is due to a faulty x, y or z" then I know I will get a lot further towards solving the problem. -

'Wet' Skoda Superb 10 Apr 2006 (Forum)
My 53 plate 2.5tdi Superb (purchased used from a Skoda dealer)recently showed an airbag fault. The dealer traced it to a fractured pollen filter housing, which had allowed water to penetrate the car over time and had 'wicked' down the loom into the airbag sensor and corroded it. -
Why do used car salesmen try to sell so many unwanted add-ons? 27 Oct 2012 (Ask HJ)

Ford TDCI oil changes 21 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Especially as 90% of my miles are long-range journeys on the motorway i.e. the engine runs at temperature. BTW, I presume the Ford dealership, servicing the car under Ford Direct warranty, DOES use top-spec oil??? Thoughts please. Thanks PS: This is a habit: I change the oil and filter on my 1985 Harley-Davidson motorcycle every 2,500 when the factory says every 5,000. -

Nissan Qashiqai 360 - Nissan Qashiqai 360 chassis corroded-NewCar 2yrs 25 Mar 2015 (Forum)
Dear HonestJohn For my Nissan Quashqai 360, bought in Feb. 2013, I found two areas on chassis at the back of the car, closed to two wheels corroded badly, very surprised and disappointed. A video is attached, shown below. It is a quality issue. The vehicle has only been used for two years, of about 21,000 miles. It's within the warranties. -
Cam Belt changes. 28 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I have been reading the thread regarding oil change intervals and one or two contributors mentioned cambelts. I am not sure what the manufacturer recommends (if anything) for my car so perhaps I could have a reasonably definative opinion from the techies amongst us. My car is to be run until either it, or I am dead! Skoda Fabia 1.9tdi with the VW PD 101 bhp diesel engine. I already change the oil & filter at around 10,000 kilometer intervals BTW - much to the surprise of the franchised VW/Skoda dealers I have used. -
