  • MPG Petrol & Diesel Figures/Car Economics 17 Nov 2021 (Forum)
I doubt I will do much motorway driving generally, unless a weekend trip out. I’ve been looking at running costs, which are very important to me, although driving it enjoyably is also important- I don’t want it to be underpowered. Tax can vary between £0 and £170 between diesel and the petrol versions of the above. Whilst annoying to pay it is a known cost.
  • Not declared - Car written off due to manufacturing defect - help 9 Mar 2012 (Forum)
On the 23rd of December 2011 I bought a car from a garage in the South of England, the cost was £25,800 and it was first registered in 2007. It had covered 9000 miles from new and although from a very small factory was officially imported and sold by the garage I bought it from, they were the sole UK agents and they are currently negotiating with the current producers of the vehicle to import them again. It was never available as a kit and although the firm which built them went out of business a couple of years ago it is now possible to buy new ones as they are back in production from a different firm using the same name.
  • Referal Fees to be Banned 24 Sep 2011 (Forum)
They add no value and encourage spurious and exaggerated personal injury claims. "It is important that the ban must be watertight and apply across the board. Banning referral fees is an important first step in tackling our dysfunctional compensation system, and needs to be accompanied by a reduction in legal costs and action to tackle whiplash if honest customers are to benefit from these reforms."
  • Renault Captur - Knocking noise 27 May 2020 (Forum)
From the recording you sent in, it sounds to me like the car could be being driven in too high a gear, as it is a diesel it is important to drive within the correct rev range, otherwise the engine and injection pump will try to compensate and create and uneven ride and noise. I will post a link to a video of the noise is anyone could please shed some light on what it could be?
  • Volkswagen Passat Estate - '04 VW Passat Highline 1.9 TDi Auto Buying advice 26 Oct 2019 (Forum)
It's got 213k miles on the clock, but speaking to the guy and he's been running it as a company car, so it's been serviced regularly and had all the important stuff done on it like recently had the cam belt done plus a load of other work that he's got proof for and says it's running really well. Bodywork looks good from the pictures. The boot looks a bit messy as it's been used to transport building materials.
  • N/A - French City Pollution Lille Crit’Air - HELP NEEDED 7 Sep 2017 (Forum)
The ZPA site says this , The following highways are located inside the environmental zone: Highway A25 (from Dunkerque) and the A22 (from Lille and toward Ghent); the A27 (from Lille to Brussels) as well as the A1 (in direction of Paris) and the A23 (in direction of Valenciennes). It is of particular importance to note that most of the traffic coming from Brussels or Ghent mostly goes towards the Calais tunnel through the highways A25 and A27, thus having to cross the ZPA zone of Lille. Excluded from potential alarms are the highways A1, A22, A25.
  • Nissan Qashqai - Nissan CVT - is it any good post 2013? 15 Aug 2017 (Forum)
I'm not a new car every three years person and any car we get we'd keep pretty much until it drops (unless it became a money pit) as we hate buying cars and all the hassle that goes along with it. So for us, reliability is really important and I'm trying to investigate all options but this answer has me confused as I understood from forums etc Nissans CVT is universally considered unreliable. There is a Youtube post with strip down which appears to declare the root cause as a simple frail bearing, which sounds feasible and also likely to have been fixed by Nissan justifying the post 2013 claim by the agony column answer.
  • Megane TCe 115, Kia cee'd (pro), Hyunai i30 - Which one shall I buy? 14 Nov 2015 (Forum)
I can't decide which!! Serious problem. I need a car for work generally, so extra urban mpg is important. About six times a year  I do a few long runs of between 140/310 miles. From what I have read the Megane's turbo and injection engine isn't so good for urban mpg........? What exactly am I looking for?
  • New car for Mrs Happy Blue? 24 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Any other suggestions?  She wants automatic, SatNav and a reversing camera and style/image is important to her, so suggesting a Kia Venga will not go down well.......Is a Mini Countryman a sensible option?
  • Mitsubishi Lancer - Should I buy one of these cars? 19 Aug 2014 (Forum)
However, having read the reviews of the car in previous topics here in the forum, and the fact that it is no longer imported and was only on the market for three years (?) - so parts could be problem in five years time - I am now wondering whether I look for something like the first generation Mazda 3 1.6  petrol (2008 or 2009).
  • Jaguar XFRS Mercedes E63 AMG - Biased between Jaguar XFRS and Mercedes E63 AMG 20 Jun 2014 (Forum)
I will be changing the car in 2 year, so need to ask you if bank from financing is good via bank with personal loan (Approved at 7%) or PCP or HP from vendor will work better. Depreciation difference is important for me between 2 cars but its not big deal if its plus minus 4k. Guys please do give feedback I dont have peopel around me who can give me advice. Regards
  • Renault Clio - Renault Clio MK4 - brief test 2 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Overall this was a fine 'small' car, I would certainly give the Clio serious consideration if looking in this sector. For me it's too small a car, I wish Renault still imported the Laguna into the UK as I would get one of those without hesitation.
  • Honda FR-V - Buying 2nd hand Honda FR-V - questions 24 Jan 2014 (Forum)
My questions are - Would a petrol or Diesel engine be better - was looking at petrol for our type of driving but hear good things about the diesels How important is miles on clock - we could get a cheaper deal for around 100k mileage but would that be inadvisable? I have found a good one which has apparently been garaged for 3 years as owners abroad. Full MOT - should I be wary of this at all?
  • Dexron III instead of Dexron II 1 Oct 2013 (Forum)
It is a 4-speed arranged as 3plus O/drive button, as Ithink most Toyota autos are. It is 6th Generation Celica (one with 4 separate headlights) The car is a grey import by the way ( I am not sure if transmissions differ to UK spec Celica.) it is my intention to change fluid every service, as it is a relatively simple operation and I hope will extend gearbox life greatly.
  • Mazda 2 - Early failure of ABS unit 27 May 2013 (Forum)
After taking legal advice decided to go through the Small Claims Court on grounds that it was 'not fair and reasonable' for such an important unit to fail in 25,000 miles/5 years. (See 1979 Sale of Goods Act, amended, sections 48a and 48b). About to get to formal stage with this. Any other similar stories welcomed, also any opinions on how long these items should last.
  • BMW 760 - Big Beemer - is it OK? 18 Nov 2012 (Forum)
Research also told my friend that it wasn't an '06 model, but was in fact built in Sept. '03 and shipped to Jordan in early '04. It has been imported to the UK since then (maybe in '06) and has had a cherished plate which has been retained, so no dated reg. plate is visible.   He has advised the dealer of the issues with the car and they have reduced their price to £15K, although with 14K miles the market price for an '03 is around £12.5K, so it's still overpriced.
  • Land Rover Discovery 4 - Speeding offence NIP 19 Sep 2012 (Forum)
However we BOTH have clean licences but I am a professional Driver and obviously my licence is more important than my wife's. My question is that if I provided my wife as the driver (as i know no better) and subsequently they determine it is me then will I be in worse trouble or when responding to the NIP I send letter to I say that according tithe best of my ability it was my wife and hope that the offence just takes it natural course?
  • 1995 toyota celica convertible 2.0GT Auto - Celica Charge and Catalyst lights suddenly on 12 Jul 2012 (Forum)

  • The screw is turning on private parking. 4 May 2012 (Forum)
The Protection of Freedom Act 2012 has received Royal Assent and has been published. As you know two important aspects is that it outlaws private clamping and also gives owners of land power to chase up Registered Keepers in England and Wales for charges for parking which have not been paid by the driver.
