  • Foreigners 29 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Very sorry if this has been discussed before....... Do the drivers of foreign registered cars caught speeding by the UK revenue cameras receive a ticket back home in France or wherever ? Or can they belt around sticking up two fingers...so to speak. (Actually most of them that hit the motorway at night in the rain only a minute after getting off the ferry at Portsmouth seem pretty intimidated judging by the way they try to keep out of everyone's way :) )
  • Interior lights when driving 22 Nov 2004 (Forum)
I thought the people on TV driving around at night with the interior light(s) on was simply to aid the camera shot but have noticed quite a few drivers doing exactly this. Surely this considerably reduces their ability to see out, although it could explain why they need their headlights and foglights on all the time?
  • Exchanging information after an accident 18 Apr 2004 (Forum)
I haven't (touch wood) had an accident but I want to know the legal situation in case it ever happens. I already carry a disposable camera in the car. Thanks Pete
  • Contents of boot 29 Dec 2003 (Forum)
in my toolbag in the boot, I've taken out all but what I consider to be essential. I am now left with jack, torque wrench and sockets for wheelnuts and spark plugs, single-use camera in case of an accident, torch, AA membership card, and mobile phone. I hope I'm not tempting providence! -- L'escargot by name, but not by nature.
  • On the Spot Fines. 13 Feb 2003 (Forum)
My spy in sunny North Wales (Mr Brunstrom's area) tell me that North Wales Police intend to pilot "on the spot fines" in the true sense of the phrase, targetting foreign drivers who currently break the limits. Apparantly nearly 300 cars caught by Speed Cameras in January were registered aborad. I can attest to being overtaken by Irish registered Artics and cars at crazy speeds when on the A55 recently.
  • Motorway Speeding 9 Apr 2002 (Forum)
A simple question: Has anyone personal knowledge of a motorist prosecuted for driving on a UK motorway (with the NSL of 70mph in force) at : A. 75-80 mph B. 80-85 mph I have not. I am aware the mere mention of speed cameras, speed limits or the police is sufficient to drive Bogush and his ilk into a frenzy. However it would be nice to have simple answers without them hijacking this thread for their crusade. C
  • Driving with no rear plate. 22 Aug 2001 (Forum)
It's back on now but I would suggest for the 'one off' long distance high risk drive this is the ideal Camera risk avoidance strategy. (And no, I didn't deliberately speed - jsut using plate removal as belt and braces...)
  • Are there any dash camera apps you'd recommend? 16 Apr 2019 (Ask HJ)
I saw an advert for a dash camera app for my iPhone. Are any of dash cam apps worth getting and would they be as efficient as a proper dash cam?
  • Motoring myths 13 Oct 2005 (Forum)
If a police officer thinks your driving is putting others at risk - by encouraging risky overtaking, say - you can be booked. 7. Reflective number plates can beat speed cameras The myth says that a certain type of reflective number plate is impossible to photograph, enabling offenders to avoid speed camera photos. Tests have shown that no known number plate can do such a thing. 8.
  • Tomorrow the expanded ULEZ 31 Aug 2023 (Forum)
Tomorrow sees the ULEZ take in much of London inside the M25. The cameras have been installed but 9/10 seem to have been  disabled. Counties surrounding the capital are refusing to have warnings of a ULEZ coming up on their roads. Papers are full of stories on how individuals are being affected and it's mostly the poorer ones who can't afford a newer car or pay the charge, all so Kahn can raise a few million bob.

  • Car Recommendation 22 May 2018 (Forum)
I want it to be slightly luxurious, no bigger than medium sized, ideally an automatic (but no biggie), petrol, and more importantly have all the extra such as pano roof, heated seats and sensors or reverse camera. Honestjohn recommended a Kia Venga/ Hyundai IX20 but are there anymore recommendations? Something more luxury feel?
  • DVLA Roadside Equipment 5 Apr 2016 (Forum)
There were no police, or vehicles, beyond, ready to stop anybody.  This was not like the usual speed cameras poking out of a hole in a back window of a van parked in a stupid place, or out of a sliding side door. Anybody got any idea what they were up to?
  • Untaxed vehicles 16 Jun 2013 (Forum)
I had thought that with Anpr cameras and Sorn requirements that the days of untaxed vehicles was over. It seems to be a regular thing now to see an out of date tax disc. I don't know if a report to the DVLA has any effect. I did pass details of 1 vehicle on to local police, the reply I received was to say that nothing could be done until the date had passed 2 months and 1 day.
  • Penalty Charge Notice 28 Jan 2013 (Forum)
I received a PCN from Brent Council dated seven days later with a photograph of my car (presumably from one of those mobile cameras) and a demand for £130 (£65 if paid within 21 days). This was on a busy road with nowhere to stop. Is it worth pursuing this fine or should I "pay up and look happy"?
  • Volvo V70 - Speed Awareness Courses 17 Jan 2013 (Forum)
My car insurance is due for renewal at the end of the month. My wife was caught speeding by a camera and took up the offer of a speed awareness course (which she said was well worthwhile). I spoke to the enforcement office of the police (PSNI) and they are adamant that this is not a conviction and should not be declared to the insurance company.
  • different dates on NIP and photo evidence 16 Apr 2012 (Forum)
I received a NIP today stating that I was speeding on the 19/03/2012 at 03:28. I have viewed the photograph online and the camera states 20/03/2012 at 03:28. I have no defence on the 20th as I was on the road at the time stated and in the area but on the 19th  I was in bed and the car parked miles away from the offence.

  • motoring in france 6 Sep 2010 (Forum)
i.m going to france in 10 days time via dover/dunkirk. been looking at the regulations over there and noticed radar / speed camera detectors are strictly forbidden. not in the habit of exceeding speed limits but have disabled the warnings on my tom tom. i was wondering what is to stop some bolshie cop from assuming my sat nav is warning active and fining me anyway?
  • New DVLA Inititaive of just new to me? 14 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Walking home from the shops today I saw a DVLA liveried van driving thru the estate, together with signage on how to report an untaxed car. It was a Transit with a big roof-rack on it and what was clearly an ANPR camera mounted at each corner, at 45 degs to the fore-aft axis of the van. I hadn't seen one before. Are they new or have I just missed them?
