  • Nissan Terrano Clutch Slipping 22 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Just back from towing in France and clutch OK again! Other things: What is a clutch damper? (and why does the 3rd thicker pipe in the block dissapear all the way to the rear offside wheel well)? Could heat / cold be allowing pressure to build up which is partially activating the slave cylinder?
  • FIAT 500 (2007 - ) - Misfuel Hire Car 25 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I explained that a tow truck driver had taken it away and he asked where the documentation was that the tow truck driver had given me. I explained that I had been given nothing. He tapped around on his computer for a few minutes then said that he had a French registered car that I could drive back to Marseille, but it was not available until the following day.
  • Jaguar X-Type Estate - Is it worth buying a car with 190k on the clock? 22 Oct 2021 (Forum)
Is it realistic to expect a car of this age and mileage to last much longer? What should I look for and ask about if I go and view it? It just has a tow bar and big boot which I occasionally need.

  • Audi100S4 - Engine Cutting Out 30 Jul 2014 (Forum)
All power is lost and the car sometimes restarts immediately but other times it does not and needs to be towed. It has been with Audi dealers and specialists and no one has been able to eliminate the problem. Possible causes such as dirt in throttle housing and replacement of crank shaft sensor have been addressed.

  • HGV v PSV 3 Sep 2013 (Forum)
In our family there is about a dozen people with HGVs, yet non with PSVs, so how to get the bus back to the yard? Ended up lifting it and towing it home, now this was legal yet if the driver drove the bus home he would have been breaking the law? So why can't HGVs drivers drive buses and bus drivers drive the rigid trucks?
  • Nissan XTriail Aventurs - Tyre specification 13 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Would you recommend the Verde or any other tyre. The car is used for occasional towing of caravan, occasional off road use as it carries a gundog so rough and muddy tracks. Also used for business, so some motorway use.
  • VW Touran 1.9 diesel - VW Touran poss Dual Mass flywheel? problem 5 Jan 2013 (Forum)

Engine starts, goes into gear but driveshafts not turning, can hear movement, not grinding. Car wont move anywhere. Have been told (without inspection), it could be DMF problem. Any ideas?? Thanks.
  • Saab on the side 6 Sep 2012 (Forum)
I have been tempted to go and look at one but part of my brain tells me to just avoid them....!   I also saw a Smart car towing a trailer.  The tiniest little trailer I have ever seen.  It might as well have been a lunchbox on wheels.
  • VW GOLF 1.9 105 bhp TDI - PLUG IN DIESEL POWER UPGRADES 13 Sep 2011 (Forum)
The companies say these modules increase the power and torque, better fuel economy and less turbo lag. My reason for asking is that I will be towing a caravan and would like to know if installing one of these devices is going to be beneficial and could there be, in the long term damage to the engine. Your opinions would very much be appreciated.
  • Galaxy - Repair or replace-my rights. 24 Jun 2010 (Forum)
My parked car was reversed into causing damage to the ,bumper, hatch and tow bar-I have 5 years old Galaxy. The driver's insurance assessor has inspected my vehicle and is insisting the hatch is reiared. I don't think this is fair as I feel it will depreciate the value of my vehicle.
  • Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 97 1.6 Gear box or clutch problem 27 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Advice received varies from "new gear box required" to "centre clutch plate out of line". Sorry to say fairly new driver with limited mechanical skills. Am arranging a tow to garage but could someone help with ideas of cause please. Thanks in advance.
  • Mazda 626 (1997 - 1999) - cam belt 9 Feb 2009 (Forum)
It's up for £895, 6 months MOT and tax, FSH but has a little rust around the wheel arches. The back suspension hangs very low so suspect it's been towing but shocks will be replaced as part of the deal. Any thoughts? They sound like great cars, I don't mind if it's boring!
  • Pat Moss RIP 25 Oct 2008 (Forum)
So as well as being a quite serious horse person all her life she was for some years a fairly successful rally driver. Got done for speeding towing a horse box not long before she died. Chapeau! I couldn't help wondering if her horses were experienced passengers, resignedly bracing their outside hooves against the walls of the box during high speed cornering...
  • Volkswagen Passat (1997 - 2000) - 99 1.9TDI sport (estate) single towbar electrics 4 Jun 2008 (Forum)

  • The open road beckons 4 Aug 2007 (Forum)
A few days later we'll be off to Chertsey so we can revisit Legoland and take in some London attractions. And we'll be taking up plenty of road space by towing a caravan which, although frowned upon by some, is still legal as far as I know. Honk if you love caravans! • Peugoet 406 Diesel 2 May 2007 (Forum)
My mate has a Peugeot 406 Diesel 2 litre HDI..It ran Ok then suddenly wouldn't rev beyond 3000rpm..It then started to run "lumpy " and now refuses to start..A local mechanic has changed a sensor ( either co or co2 not sure which )..cambelt and timing have been checked and are OK..The pressure has been tested in the common rail and its OK..he did manage to get it started with a tow but soon after starting the engine just died. Any information would be greatly appreciated Cheers Hobbynut
  • does an economical 4x4 exist? 16 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Now swinging back to the idea that we may have to get a 4x4, for reasons of ground clearance on our lanes, towing ease, and the fact that 4 kids(3 legally needing car seats - however much they insist they are too old for them) and dog just dont fit in anything else. We are probably looking at buying something at least 5 years old,it must have 7 seats and it will be sole family car.
