  • FIAT Grande Punto (2006 - 2009) - 08 1.4 Brake failure on 4 month old car 14 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Is there any history of this? A member of my family acquired a Grande Punto 1.4 Auto back in June, it has since covered 4K miles of ordinary road driving. Yesterday on the way home from work, the ABS warning light came on. On getting the car home, the driver braked, a lound thud then came from somewhere in the rear of the car, and lost all braking capability, including operation of the parking brake.
  • Please help me finding a banger 10 Sep 2008 (Forum)
My insurer can cover the car [up to Group 7] for £25/month - which I think is reasonable. I've looked into AutoTrader/Ebay but the problem is, at this price I can't find any car which has MOT. Any suggestions for which car and where I can find them?
  • Hiring a car in Belfast, driving in to ROI 3 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Hi, on August 12th I am flying with family to Belfast, staying in the city a few days then driving to Enniskrone on the coast to stay on the coast for a while before coming back to Belfast. Enniskrone is across the border. I am getting quotes on line for car rental from Belfast Airport pick up and drop off, but Mrs G tells me that you have to pay extra insurance to take a rental car in to ROI and we wont be covered. I can't see anything on any web-sites I have used to get pricing that says "don't cross the border", or "crossing the border?...
  • Registered Owner vs Keeper of the car 24 Sep 2004 (Forum)
I ask as I was planning to insure my new Almera in my other half's name, but have me as the registered keeper. Tesco have printed an old cover note which they've sent to our garage that has no mention of me on it, so the garage have refused to register the car to me. So, for now, the car will be registered to, and insured by my other half.
  • Parking and used car advertising 5 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Combining two recent threads about used car advertising and restricted parking on residential streets, it's not my intention to cover the same ground again but ... Like many here, we live on an A road without off street parking. It also falls at the edge of town and marks the last free parking before the yellow lines and car parks take over.
  • 2015 BMW with 3 year warantee? 23 Feb 2023 (Forum)
I don't want a BMW for prestige, but may be a great driving experience. I am not a boy racer.... I want something great to drive.  The car supermarket do sell add-on warrantee, but I don't know what it will cover and what it does n't.  Is the 3 year warranty a good way to off-set high repair bills?
  • Hyundai i40 - Garage backed out of repair but want paying 24 Jun 2022 (Forum)
He now wants £220 (£100) for the part and £120 for labour.   I've left the car there at present as he clearly overestimated his own abilities  why should I pay the labour.   I'll cover the part but not for his failed "learning on the job" at my expense.

  • All - Toyota 6 Jun 2021 (Forum)
They’ll also price match a service from an independent garage within a 10 mile radius. It’s a good move for Toyota, driving up footfall through the workshop at a time when cars are spending less time undergoing maintenance. It’s also envisaged that residual prices of used Toyotas will be pushed up, reducing monthly PCP repayments on both new and used car sales. https://mag.toyota.co.uk/toyota-warranty-how-it-works/
  • Removing sun cream from paintwork. 15 Jul 2018 (Forum)
I thought I was the only one with this problem until I saw a similar question in a well-known weekly car magazine this week - with a no-answer answer, if you know what I mean. Our kids have, in passing, put sun-cream covered hands on our cars paintwork - and it is impossible to remove. It seems to 'soak in' to the paintwork and won't wash out.
  • Peugeot 107 2005-2014 - Switching off ABS in snow 14 Feb 2018 (Forum)
If it is possible, I have in mind a simple switch/relay setup that will automatically switch ABS back on next time the car is started. I occasionally drive on completely snow covered roads just for the fun of it, but with ABS it isn't as much fun because I have somewhat less control.
  • Audi A3 - MPG Mystery 30 Apr 2016 (Forum)
In this day and age, is it still possible to wind back the mileometer reading or syphon fuel from the fuel tank? My car was at a dealer for over a week for warranty repairs with enough fuel for about 200miles. When I collected the car, the fuel warning light was on yet according to the mileometer, it had done less than 20 miles whilst with the dealer.
  • Skoda Octavia/Ford Focus - Decisions decisions!? 9 Apr 2016 (Forum)
A friend is looking to buy a used car, but they can't decide between a 2013 Focus Titanium X petrol or diesel and a 2012 Skoda VRS diesel. They all have similiar mileage, full dealer service history and she likes the way they drive. She covers roughly 10 - 12,000 miles every year and those miles are fairly evenly mixed between dual carriageway, motorway and town.
  • Consumer Rights Act in practice 22 Mar 2016 (Forum)
I was recently interested in a car.  Before going to see I decided to check warranty on offer. Reference was made to being available up to 24 months costs varying as to cover, time etc.  No mention was made of dealer warranty.

  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 2003 2.0 TDCi - Fault Code Reader 29 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Anyone know of a cheap fault code reader that will cover my 2003 TDCi mondeo. Although it has a 16pin OBDC II socket it will not read to a OBDC II reader. Suspect this is because it is pre 2004 when Euro cars were included. Car was first registered in June 2003.
  • BMW 5 Series E60 - 5 Series started consuming oil 3 Apr 2015 (Forum)
Hi My 520d has started using around a litre of oil every 6 weeks, probably covering at most 300 miles in that time.  The car has got 134,000 which I have done almost all and the oil has never needed topping up until recently.  For Castrol it's twenty quid a litre so not an insignificant expense.
  • fiesta 1.4 zetec 2002 mk6 - power steering fluid/oil in spark plug cavities 7 Oct 2014 (Forum)
Hi all Can someone tell me the exact power steering fluid i need please. The level has dropped and it needs a top up. I have some from my previous car a 2001 ford focus. Will this suffice? I have not had the car long and have not yet got a manual for it. Also when i checked spak plugs the other day they were bathing in oil. Am i right in thinking that it needs a new rocker cover gasket?
  • Audi 80 1.6td - RPM sensor 30 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Hi could anyone tell me where the tachometer sensor is located on the 1.6td model.  My car was originally fitted with the large analog clock next to the speedo, but I like rev counters, so I fitted one taken from a 1.9tdi but it is not working. I am assuming that being fitted with the clock, there won't be a sensor fitted on this car.
  • Peugeot 407 coupe - Snow damage 20 Feb 2013 (Forum)
I had no idea so much damage could be caused! The lesson I've learnt is not to leave your car covered in snow.  Fine while its freezing but could be expensive when it starts to thaw.
