Wheh should I service it then? I'm guessing oil about 5000 or 6 months whichever first and service 10000/12 months Sorry to ramble; just want to make sure I get the maintenance right. So far I've changed the cambelt and had an oil change. Last owner (contacted via V5 because I bought it from a trader) said it was 'serviced recently' but a full service will be in June. -

Now I have been to the website: http://www.chris-longhurst.com/carbibles/index.html?menu.html&engineoil_bible.html it tells me that you should never go to mineral oil when your car has been used to semi synth and vice versa. Is it normal for a turbo to whistle more in the colder weather? I have noticed it's definitely noisier recently, like a feint camping kettle sort of noise. The oil level is correct and within the 18000 mile oil change interval.oil strainer - auto box. mk2 mondeo 21 May 2006 (Forum)

I have a hilux surf and auto box runs using dexron 111 oil.Now because its my everyday car for work and towing trailers and a large caravan around europe,.I would like to know weather replacing the dexron 111 gearbox oil with the synthetic castrol z oil is possible.Would i have to have the box completley flushed before changing the oil,or can i just drain the old oil out of the gearbox sump and refill with castrol. As i know some dex 111 oil would still be in the tourque converter, would this matter.I would like to do this because the surf is clocking up around 15ooo miles of towing plus all the weekend run around stuff, and i think the old girl deserves the best oil to keep her going.i,ve had the surf for 4 years and 73,000 miles and never missed a beat. She,s got 169000 miles under her bonnet and still going strong,i just think if there are better oils on the market the surf deserves it.can anybody give me an answer.cheersBought the wrong oil..doh! 29 Apr 2002 (Forum)
I used .5 ltrs of it to top it up a few weeks back and didn't think anyhting of it until now. I've checked my manual and it seems that while this oil is fine for a 110BHP engine, the 130BHP requires 5W/40 oil to standard VW 505 01 - note the '01' and not '00'! Is this standard of oil significantly different? Can I just keep on using the stuff I've got and hope that it is just lubricating enough until the next oil change 6 months later?Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1999 1.8 Oil consumption question 29 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I have a T reg Ford Focus 1.8 petrol which has done 78k miles. I have worked out that since the last oil change which was last November, the engine has consumed about 500ml (0.5 quart/litre) of oil whilst covering about 1000 miles. Is this rate of oil consumption normal and also presumably all car owner's have to top up, some more than others, if there is a full year between services and they have driven say 10-12k miles.Vauxhall oils 10 Jun 2005 (Forum)
I did joke that maybe I should have bought the oil beforehand and supplied it for them to do the oil change with ;o)
