  • the price of fuel and speeding 8 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Although the price of fuel is soaring at an alarming rate, why are drivers still in such a hurry? I would`ve thought by now that the speed kings would tend to drive economically and get as many MPG as practicable . Is company car man still on an infinite expense account?
  • Low viscosity oils, older cars, fuel saving 1970`s 6 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Delving again into the Historical record ;) Does anyone remember the low viscosity oils that were promoted in the (I think) early 70s as a fuel saving measure? I can remember an allegedly 25,000 change interval for one synthetic at that time, but there were others, lower viscosity at the upper as well as `W` end of the scale. Point of interest to me is the cars of the era would have had their rings and plain bearings set for a thicker oil.
  • Jaguar S-Type (1999 - 2007) - 05 3.0 LPG Re-Fueling 2 May 2008 (Forum)
Can anyone explain why lpg fuel pumps are not all set at the same pressure. The reason I ask this is having used quite afew pumps Iseem to get different fill levels. I have 70lt toroidal tank-56lt capacity, only two pumps managed over 50lt and most seem to be 37 to 40lt.
  • Toad immobiliser fitted to Porsche 924 8 Aug 2007 (Forum)
One key fob pendant stopped working some time ago. Having done some work on it with the battery off I couldn't start it, no fuel pump running. Having checked fuses and connections around the relays fuel pump kicked in, engine fired up. On trying to restart red l.e.d. on toad keeps flashing, no fuel pump and no cranking. Are these things easy to reset,I obviously can't drive to the Lucas centre that fitted it, or alternatively are they easy to remove?

  • Restarting Golf TDi - fuel filter drain 6 May 2007 (Forum)
Has 56k on the clock and one owner from new. Lovely dark green colour. I am aware its good to drain the diesel fuel filter periodically via the screw tap/bung at the bottom of the filter. My question is how does one restart the car after draining the filter and surely the car will not have any diesel in the filter to run on?
  • Am I asking the impossible? 16 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I'm toying with the idea of changing my car yet again. I like fast cars, but a new house means that I have to be a bit more frugal with the fuel expenses. So..... Is there such a thing as a car that has good fuel economy and great performance. By good fuel economy I mean over 40mpg on a run and 30ish around town. By great performance I mean at least 150BHP Other considerations to consider are - it must cost around 6K, have 5 doors and be "family sized" (Mondeo/Passat size) I'm thinking diesel, but which one?
  • Fuel consumption spreadsheets 9 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Not only does this give me a clue to the general health of my vehicle but I'm nerdy enough to actually get some entertainment out of manipulating the numbers (stop laughing). For example, i've just plotted a rather interesting graph showing the change in the cost of fuel over three years. What I would like to know is what kind of information you like to extract from your spreadsheet? Ed.
  • Strange - fuel economy suddenly improved 3 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Now I'm not complaining, but as the car has just rolled over 16,000 miles its been getting at least 22mpg. No change to the driving pattern, little change to the weather, No change to the fuel (optimax) and I had the oil changed about two or three months ago. Curious? I am. -- Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
  • Mondeo mk2 speedo problem 16 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I have a June 98 Mondeo Ghia x with a speedo problem. The problem I am getting is the speedo dies and at the same time the low fuel warning lights come on for about a second then goes out. The fuel guage is unaffected and still reads ok, when the speedo starts to work again the low fuel light comes on again for a about a second then goes out.
  • Astra 1.7TD - Faulty Fuel Pump? 9 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Occasionally ECU light comes on but no fault codes are showing. Local dealer changed the MAF but problem is still there. I think it may be the fuel pump as my MPG is also getting worse. Usually a tank will do 530 but struggled to get 510 miles out of it this time with same driving conditions. Car had done 73,000 miles. Anyone else had this problem?

  • Clio Fuel cut off 14 Aug 2003 (Forum)
HI my neighbour's Clio 1.2 MPI won't start I wanted to check the fuel cut off switch and cannot decide if it is reset or not. Does anyone know how this "feels" if it needs reseting I have pushed down on the rubber top but it does not click or move much. The reason I suspect this is she had a similar problem two weeks ago and a friendly mechanic fiddled in that area.
  • XUD Fuel Pump Problems 7 Apr 2003 (Forum)
If the car is left for n hour or so after a long journey, it will restart but after about 10 seconds, it suddenly surges and then cuts out. It could take several attempts to restart it. I have bled the fuel pump several times but I have noticed that teh problem is worse if I leave the car parked while facing uphill. Any ideas are welcome..

  • Coasting in neutral 8 Sep 2018 (Forum)
Does coasting in neutral save fuel?, or , with today’s modern computer controlled systems is leaving the car in gear and lifting off the accelerator more economical as the fuel is shut off ( possibly), until you accelerate again, just asking to settle an argument..
