  Something is amiss with the rear nearside brake on my car. Afer three miles or so, when "something" has got hot and expanded, there is a constant high pitched squeal from this one wheel. Applying the brakes makes it stop - if they were worn i'd expect the opposite !

  The other day, I drove 20 miles, and then had to do a multi-point turn to get into a tight parking spot. Up to that point, there had been no smell in the car, but as I braked, reversed, braked, went forward, etc, the cabin filled with an unpleasant rotten smell. A faint whiff remained when I got into the car half an hour later, but soon disipated. Yesterday, I noticed the smell filling the cabin a couple of times: once when I braked hard, the other time when I braked hard and reversed.

  Both brake lights work fine during the day when the lights are not in use but when the lights are on the left hand side brake light does not work.   Any idea what the problem could be?

  We have recently purchased this car and have experienced very aggressive brakes. I have been used to Mercedes cars which have excellent brakes but the sharpness on the Golf is almost toooooo much. Is this usual and can anything be done? A.H.

  I'm in the market for some brakes and tyres, but prices vary immensely. Can anyone recommend what alternative to genuine ATE brakes that VW use. Reading various forums and articles, Mintex seem to be OK but Im not prepared to mortgage my house for a new set!

  My parents think the brakelights do not work when the vehicle first moves off. They live at the top of a hill and at the first bend the brakes are applied, but no rear lights show and there are no warning lamps on the dash. On arriving at the destination the brake lights function normally, anyone any ideas?

  My daughters brake pedal has plenty of travel in it, i have adjusted the rear brakes, checked the pads, they are ok, the servo is working ok, must be the master cylinder??? is this a common fault on these cars or could it be something else?

  hi room, i noticed the other day as the misses stopped at the top of the road that the high brake light didnt come on as she stopped, the other 2 brake lights were fine, is this an issue with the mot or are 2 brake lights sufficient, or could the high brake light have been disconnected on purpose by the prev owner ( is it a done thing?)

  Any ideas! After braking, there appears to be an air leak from behind brake pedal causing an annoying squeeking noise. Renault Scenis 1.9 DCI.

  My 198 A4 Avant brake warning light illuminates whilst the brakes, fluid and lines are all OK, having passed the MOT in this condition. Audi want the usual fortune to replace faulty parts; is there a cheaper way? I am not mechanically minded.

  I briefly read an advert for a scooter and saw that it had both its front and rear brakes connected (not sure whether to the foot or hand operated "pedal"). It got we wondering why motor bikes have separate brakes for front and rear? (You may guess that I am not a biker!)

  I would like to change the brake fluid on my wifes Saxo. I have read that these cars come with synthetic brake fluid (1999). Is there any way I can tell what type of fluid is in the master cylinder so that I can replace it with the same type of fluid.
