  • The Audi is 2.... 27 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Secondly, if I'm going to pay less per month, the shortlist looks like the following: it doesn't *have* to be an automatic but I'd prefer it. VW Golf Plus 2.0 TDI DSG Skoda Octavia estate 2.0 TDI DSG Mercedes B200 CDI (CVT equivalent) BMW 320D ES Touring automatic (anyone know what sort of auto this is? - and I think it may eb too expensive anyway) Mazda 6 estate 2.0 diesel (but no auto) Ford C-Max 2.0 TDCI (auto is torque-converter and will sap performance) Audi A4 Avant 2.0 - might seem the obvious choice but still expensive and I might as well have the Golf or the Skoda as the engine is the same.
  • Temporary car?? 28 Nov 2005 (Forum)
MiL may keep Trajet for a few months and I am going spare without central locking, electric windows, a radio and most importantly automatic gearbox, my knees hurt. So, if she does keep the Trajet, I want a car which has automatic, central locking, electic windows, electric heated door mirrors, and ....a radio! I also want a disposable car.
  • Buying 4x4 for export to Sri Lanka 23 Apr 2002 (Forum)
From advice received, the conclusion that my friend drew was not to buy a relatively low budget Japanese 4x4, as originally intended. After careful thought, he instead chose to spend more cash, and purchase a Mercedes 180 automatic, 'S' reg, 16,000 miles, clean HPI, and a genereral air of being an honest motor (John!) His reasons? The price was right. A relatively simple car, though at the same time, well built. Automatic suits Colombo traffic.
  • Honda CR-V - Suggested price for CR-V 2009 automatic 5 May 2024 (Forum)
I am planning to sell my Honda CR-V 2009 automatic, petrol ES trim, and I would like to ask you for the suggested price for this car. Mechanically, it is in tip-top condition, the paint is slightly dull, with light polish would looks like new. I bought the car 1.5 years ago for £5,000 with 106,000 miles.
  • Challenging Congestion Charge Penailties 9 Nov 2015 (Forum)
I ocassionally do deliveries in London and have registered on the Congestion Charge website but could not register for automatic payment as someone had registered the vehicle details before me. My partner contacted the car company he bought the vehicle from and asked them to contact the previous owner and tell them to remove their detais so we could register for automatic payment.
  • Test Drives. How did you get the one you wanted? 9 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Until recently  I have always known exactly what car I wanted. 3 x XJ in a row and a RangeRover before that. Test Drive was easy. The Range Rover had a 3.5 petrol and was an automatic. no problem. Jaguar XJ. very similar, the first one there was only one engine and an automatic box. Second one I wanted the supercharged and auto, little choice about the Engine-Box combo.
  • VW T6, Vivaro, Transit - Crew Vans which one ? 3 Feb 2024 (Forum)
I'm thinking of buying a crew van either a VW , Vivaro or Transit  Will most probably do around 20k miles per year Needs to be automatic &  ULEZ compliant, low tax band and low insurance What van would you recommend?  Would you lease a van for 3 years or buy a used van? ( budget is £20k )  If used van how many miles on a van is too much?
  • BMW 2 Series Active Tourer - BMW 2 series active tourer - reliability 10 Nov 2023 (Forum)
I’m looking at buying a 4 year old 2 series active tourer, and can’t decide between the 2.0 petrol or diesel variant, both automatic, I cover up to 15000 miles a year, quite a lot of short journeys during the week but 2-300 mile journeys at weekends. What would be the most reliable car? Thanks
  • Vauxhall mokka - Surrendering your license 13 Jun 2023 (Forum)
I don't think there is any legal requirement to post your license since everything is now updated automatically. Should I challenge the decision in court risking a bigger fine?
  • Skoda, BMW, Audi and Toyota - Car opinions 7 Jan 2023 (Forum)
Heated seats and windscreen and reversing cameras are nice to have and  preferably an automatic.  I'm not looking at a hybrid.  Budget of no more than £19,000.  Thank you.
  • Choosing First Car 6 Jun 2022 (Forum)
My budget is up to around 25k and I'm happy to buy a used vehicle although doesn't have to be, It must, however, be automatic. Appreciate your thoughts! Right now I'm considering the Toyota Corolla, Honda Jazz or Peugeot 208.

  • Rover 416 - way over priced 17 Apr 2021 (Forum)
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROVER-416-SLI-1-6-AUTOMATIC-TIMEWARP-LEATHER-ONLY-26211-MILES-FROM-NEW/353373450499?hash=item5246b2f103:g:bswAAOSwQdhgGDlI It might be low mileage and an import but you'd have to be utterly mad to pay that much for one.
  • BMW E39 auto gearbox 10 Sep 2020 (Forum)
Hi Folks, Would anyone have any experience or views in changing the automatic gearbox oil/filter on units that are so called 'sealed for life'? I have a 2001 2.2litre 520i with the steptronic box and 72k on the clock. BMW will not even look at the box for servicing or an oil change.
  • Honda/Toyota - Used SUV auto 30 Jun 2020 (Forum)
I am looking for a used SUV automatic petrol preferably. Looking for a 3 year old car and would like to keep for at least 7 years. My question is what cars and auto transmission types are more reliable in the long run? Do CVTs do better than the DSGs?
  • Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 17-08-2019 19 Aug 2019 (Forum)
I agree with your advice that SP should consider an older Toyota Yaris, but do not overlook the Daihatsu Sirion which is a Yaris with a different body. I ran a 4 speed torque converter automatic Sirion from new in 2009 to 2016. It was utterly reliable and still had the original battery and exhaust when I sold it. The Sirion is the best older supermini that most people have never heard of.
