  It should be noted the finance company's instruction to the engineer was fairly leading and it was obvious what they wanted the outcome to be. I have corresponded with several BMW 'experts' that have suggested that the flaps can fail due to debris build up over a period of time (that is they can work loose etc), The report also suggests BMW have acknowledged this issue with improvements to the design although I have correspondence from them saying this is not the case.

  Against that the Beemer is a bit longer in the tooth (94K done,regularly serviced) but then again, all the depreciation is out of the car. BMW insurance £450/Golf £250 annually.The Golf will do 32mpg(urban),50mpg(extra-urban) and the Beemer averages at,as I say,24mpg. So which motor to sell? And what to get? I'm thinking sell the Beemer and get a 1 year-old Zafira....any ideas?

  I've trawled the web and found one similar case in the USA. And how much more do you think I might persuade BMW to offer me. Ultimately they are about to lose two customers - my wife who has lost faith in the car and me as I'm about to change my BMW 525 and will probably go Merc or similar now but not BMW! And any idea what might have caused such a dramatic failure?

  Two months ago I ordered a BMW 118d SE via a broker, and had a signed contract back from the supplying dealer agreeing the specification and price. It was quite high additional specification. They phoned this week to tell me that BMW had removed some the options packs, that the specification had changed, and that it was going to cost me £2.5k aprox more, or they would refund my 10% deposit.

  Also the BMW system kept throwing up odd 'random' instructions - e.g. coming up to a left turn it would show a left turn arrow but say 'Bitte rechts biegen' (please turn right) before, a few yards later, giving the correct 'Bitte links biegen' instruction.

  hiya i am after having an oil change on my bmw X5 3.0litre 2001,just usual spark plugs air filter oil filter and oil.i normally get my bmw parts from euro parts or german and swedish.being i bit of a tight wad!!! :)anyway getin to the point, the mechanic where i usually take my car has said it would be fine with semi synthetic 10w/40. and thats what he would put in if i just dropped it off and didnt give him any parts,i understand hes not a bmw mechnic,but hes been in the job for nearly 20 years.when i went to g+s they recommended i get the fully synthetic 0w/30 and they dont do this, best they have is 5w/40.they said its not worth risking an engine for the sake of 50 quid and said i was best to go to bmw and get what they would use which i think would be the 0w/30 castrol edge.euro parts said it would be fine with there oil which is fully synthetic 0w/40,so i just need someones advise on the the oil situation, do i stop being a tight wad and fork out nearly 100 quid in oil from bmw, or get the 0w/40 from euro parts.it just seems every person in the motor trade has different advise on oil.thank you for any advise you could give me on this matter ,michael

BMW tried to “fix-it” at Rover for six years, and having destroyed substantial value for BMW shareholders, opted to “sell-it”. Sell-it When BMW despaired of fixing Rover Group it chose to sell it.

  Whilst I am only 22, I consider myself a relatively experienced driver and currently own my third car, a 1986C BMW 316. Unlike my first two cars, a Vauxhall Cavalier followed by a Honda Integra, the BMW is rear-wheel drive. I have driven the BMW under 1,500 miles, so am not totally used to it, but there are times on my 22 mile drive to and from work, predominantly through the countryside, when I feel as though I am losing the rear end.

  I am looking for a used car with a budget of £7000 and I can't make up my mind between the Volvo and the BMW. I'm looking at the frugal end of the engine scale: 2.0 on the S60, 318i on the BMW.
