Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - TD '99 problems with water/steam 25 Aug 2007 (Forum)
My first thought was head gasket but the car starts fine and there is absolutely no loss in performance whatsoever - drives perfectly only prob is coolant constantly needs top up and just chucks it out the back in steam. there seems to be fuel/water mix somewhere as well. fuel in water??? Iv heard things about fuel filter problems... any ideas??? -
Alfa Romeo 166 (1999 - 2005) - aircon & any other problems 14 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Doesn't blow icy cold when a/c set to low, Is it likely there is another fault I need to get fixed or would a lack of coolant gas cause the fault display? Any other recommendations for this model. Cam belt and tensioners fitted 6K ago. It does seem to have a slight low speed judder when pulling away/accelerating upto about 2.5K revs, but is smooth on the motorway or above 3K revs...any suggestions (clutch/flywheel/something else). -
VW Golf mk2 1.3 6 May 2007 (Forum)
i'm having trouble with leaks comming from the cylinder head, the coolant and the oil have mixed a little bit has gone to the bore's and i was only getting 1bar compression, i thaught this could be the head gasket, so i changed it and just incase i checked the cylinder head with a piece of metal and a feeler blade to chek for any signs of warping but the wasn't, so back on goes everything with a new head gasket, took her for a drive before the m.o.t, she drove like new! -
Golf mkiv temperature guage sender 6 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Basically the temperature needle in the dash stays at o ie it dosent rise until you wiggle the temperature sender ( THE BODY OF THE SENDER NOT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION ) which is located in the coolant hose. After that is done the temperature guage rises to normal and continues to work normally. I dont think the problem is electrical since I am not moving the electrical plug, and after this is done the temperature sender is working normally. -
Fixed temp guage -overheating? MK3Fiesta 17 Feb 2007 (Forum)
There are no signs of any leaks and the hoses are fine but I guess there may be an air lock. Also the anti freeze seems to bubbling a little bit in the expansion tank, but I have lost no coolant at all in the past 50 miles and the steam I was getting was just condensation so there is no sign of any head gasket failure at all. -
Citroen Berlingo Service Indicator 12 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Any ideas? Also, what should it's service intervals be? I normally change oil every 5000 miles anyway, coolant every couple of years and everything else perishable as per a factory service schedule. -
peugeot 306 1.4L cooling trouble 2 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Checked the waterpump and its roating smothley and all in one peice. Ive put water in through both the thermostat housing hole on the head and through the coolant hose on the inlet manifold and it comes out of the radiator bottom hose fine. The only thing i cant get it to do is come out of the engine drain plug. Anyone got any ideas. Thanks in advance for any help -
Cold weather and Audi Multitronic auto 11 Feb 2006 (Forum)
In cold weather (usually below 2 centigrade) the vehicle won't drive against even a slight incline until the coolant temp hits 20 centigrade (according to Audi, there is a torque limiter) This renders the car a pain to drive on frosty mornings and has left me stranded in multistorey carparks, on cambers etc until the engine warms up. -
Fiesta '96(P) 1.8D takes ages to start! 10 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I have only owned the car a month and in that time had it serviced, which included oil & filter change, air filter change, fuel filter change, cam belt change, brake fluid and engine coolant replacement and today changed the glow plugs. The car still seems to take a while to start, but only when starting from cold. I have had the battery checked and have been told it is in excellent condition. -
306 HDi - sooty exhaust 20 Jan 2006 (Forum)
My usually reliable indie declares himself outwitted by a combustion imbalance on my car: 99T showing 37K miles, with oil/filter changes every 6K, coolant changes, etc. For the last 1000 miles a grey cloud had been visible in the r/v mirror when accelerating, and gobs of soot are sometimes ejected at the rear. Other data: oil consumption not measurable between changes; fuel has been up to 60mpg but is falling; starting and running are normal; temp gauge normally just below 80° but went up to 95° in a traffic jam recently. -
Pug 406 - slight leak from underneath 30 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Anyone got any ideas? I have checked the water reservoir and its fine, and there are no warning lights of low coolant level. Something to do with the A/C? I'm a bit puzzled! TIA. -
Jaguar X Type2.5 Cooling System Hose. 18 May 2005 (Forum)
Also does anyone know if this system has a relief valve? if not should it have relief valve? Is the coolant pump engine driven? If anyone can help me I would be grateful, as I am keen to have an informed discussion with Jaguar about this. Thank you. -
Another Renault Clio starting problem 2 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I have been reading the earlier articles about Coolant Temperature Sensors getting corroded and causing faulty readings. But I'm not totally sure whether this is the same problem. When cold my clio (which is a 1998 S-reg 1.6 RXE) starts fine, but, if I drive somewhere then leave it for half an hour or so, when I come to restart, the engine starts, but idles at very low revs, almost stalling, and very shaky. -
1993 - L reg Micra starting problems 30 Apr 2004 (Forum)
The engine turns over but does not fire and it seems like it is flooding. My Nissan dealer has tried replacing the coolant temperature sensor and putting on the modified wiring harness, but with no improvement! They now want to replace the air flow meter. However, do you think this would make any difference? Also does the throttle housing contain the air flow meter? -
Primera\'s Air Con 24 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I could not see where it was coming from, and on removing the fuel filter housing (diesel model), have found water dripping from a small plastic stub pipe passing through the bulkhead The water is clear and is not coolant, and I therefore assume it to be condensate from the air condtioning. I am right in assuming that this is an overfill from the ventilation plenum chamber, and it is dripping because the main drain is blocked ??? -
Low mileage bmw compact - advice 15 Apr 2003 (Forum)
It's now done 23k and is loosening up nicely! it was serviced by BMW before I bought it and due to it's age they changed the brake fluid, coolant, and plugs along with the oil. It has only had 2 oil services in it's life previously (I guess it was serviced on the "lights", and it has been used infrequently). It has a 4 spd auto box, should I be looking to change the fluid in this kind of transmission to prolong the life of the box, and what about the differential, would this benefit from change at this age or shall i leave it for a few more miles. -
Excort Probs 22 Aug 2002 (Forum)
I am desperate to get this problem fixed, if you have any advice I would be grateful. I have tried: *New cat *New Camshaft,Crankshaft,Coolant and Temperature sensors (New Lambda Sensor will be fitted the weekend). I have heard this model may have sticky valve problems, but I don't know how this problem would manifest itself so I can't tell if it is the same problem. -
Mercedes E240 2 Dec 2001 (Forum)
I need advice. Picked up the Avis rental, its an E240. Damned heater doesn`t work. I stopped and got the coolant topped up, but although the heater isn`t cold, it certainly isn`t warm. The car does not seem to be running excessively hot, the major pipes at the top & bottom of the radiator are hot and the pipes to the expansion tank are hottish. -
Ford Ranger - Getting Messed around by Dealer 9 Aug 2023 (Forum)
I took finance of £5k and paid the balance of £15k myself. A few months after ownership it became apparent that there was an issue with the coolant mysteriously ‘disappearing’. I first noticed it 4 months after taking ownership, didn’t report it to the garage I purchased from but had the system re-pressurised/filled and all seemed well for a while. -
Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 94 1.7 17DTL Cracked Cylinder Head. 3 Jun 2011 (Forum)
First thing every morning my car starts with a misfire for a few seconds, and a puff of white smoke/water vapour comes from the exhaust, after which it would run perfectly fine. Also over a period of several months I've noticed a small loss of coolant. I pressure tested it and cannot find any evidence of an external leak anywhere. I began to wonder if these two problems were related. If I released the pressure when I finished with the car at night it would start and run normally the next morning with no misfire, and that led me to suspect that the head may have a small crack which is closed when it's warm, and opens up when it cools, allowing coolant to run into one cylinder overnight, hence the slight misfire in the morning.
