  • Trigard vs. Conventional Anti-freeze? 2 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Yesterday I was in the store, and I picked up a container which looked similar; but on reading the label it is now an advanced protection, but otherwise conventional, ethylene glycol based coolant. It?s recommended by Merc and Saab, so it?s obviously good stuff, but I?m wondering if these or other mfrs would consider that Trigard would give even better protection, and what is the difference between these formulations anyway?
  • VW Golf Hassles 3 Sep 2001 (Forum)
This morning upon investigation there's virtually no oil in the sump & a thick whitish substance in the coolant reservoir. The head gasket has gone hasn't it ? It's going to cost me a lot to put right isn't it ? Any ideas ? Thanks
  • Nissan 200 SX 20 Aug 2001 (Forum)
A friend of mine is thinking of buying the following from a local Nissan dealer: 99T 200SX Touring auto - £12995 BUT it's only done 3000 miles - which to me means that it was registered in 99 to get a sales bonus and, apart from the odd drive, it's been sitting there ever since! So - does this make it a bad buy. If not, what should he get done before buying it...e.g. oil, coolant, ATF fluid??? Also, how much should he pay - I reckon no more than 12K... thanks
  • Subaru Justy 10 Mar 2001 (Forum)
Running my second Subaru Justy (1990 GL II) have noticed over this winter mayonnaise on the oil filler cap I recall that the previous car did this. There doesn't appear to be any water in the coolant or any loss of water. The rocker cover is plastic with a metal plate inside. Could it just be condensation on short journeys? I doesn't tend to be too bad after motorway journeys. Any suggestions?
  • Suzuki Vitara - Should have followed my own advice 17 Sep 2024 (Forum)
It meant kicking our heels for four hours. And that was “While you wait” service. They reported coolant leak stains but said it might be historic as levels were OK. They suggested I monitor it for 250 miles. Next day I checked the coolant level after 50 miles. It was low, just over the mark. I smelt a rat re the level having been properly checked at the service.
  • Renault Clio - Consumer act 2015, refund due to fault 18 Aug 2017 (Forum)
I booked the car back into the garage telling them that the car was still loosing coolant and I have now found out that the coolant has been getting into the engine via the cyilindar head and it's now been sent to France to find the fault.  Due to me only having the car for more than 30 days and under 6 months, I am able to use the consumer act 2015 and reject the car for a full refund since Renault have had there one change to repair the car.

  • Vag 1.6 tdi overheat 27 Dec 2020 (Forum)
My mk6 golf 1.6 tdi rise the temparature hand over 90 just as I pulled into my drive tonight. I let it cool down and checked the coolant, it was still at the correct level and no visbile leaks/contamiination. There was plenty of heat coming through the vents when I turned the car off. I went out a small drive, but when I come to a steep hill where I live it started to rise up over 90.
  • Eco boost engine 30 Sep 2020 (Forum)
Yes they had problems with corroding degas pipes affecting the cooling which would then overheat and then cause engine problems ( as any engine would without coolant) afaik this has been sorted with ford even replacing engines foc in some cases, I’m on my third car powered by an eco boost engine with no problems whatsoever including engines,  has enough time now passed to allow some leniency towards the ecoboost?
  • Ford Focus Zetec 1600 Petrol 55 Reg. - Leaky Core Plugs 13 Apr 2016 (Forum)
Correspondence regarding water in the spark plug tray suggests a leaky core plug, apart from water ingress from a leaky bonnet. Surely, if it was a leaky core plug, then the coolant in the reservoir would go down. My Focus has never ever needed topping up by me despite a three thousand mile trip round Europe and yet my garage is trying to tell me it is a core plug. I don't believe it!
  • volvo s40 1999 t reg - sloshing sound from gearbox area 21 Mar 2015 (Forum)
Within a few miles after collection ,i noticed a sloshing sound coming from around gearbox area. Looked underneath car as well as under bonnet . Coolant level and engine oil normal . Car is dry ,no spills etc . Any ideas ? could this be linked to new tensioner pulley, or just coincidence ?                  Just sounds like water, oil, fluid etc escaping
  • toyota celica 190 self revving /high idle 2 Nov 2014 (Forum)
vvtli 190 celica 2002.I have a problem when the engine gets warm, when I bring the car down to tick over,it revs at 1500 and blips the throttle to 2000,on off, like someone revving it for you, it then will suddenly change, drop down to 900 and runs sweet, few minutes later it's at 1500 again revving to 2000, could this be a  problem with the coolant temperature sensor, iacv? Maf? Can't find. Any vacuum leaks as such, please give me your knowledge. Thanks,j :-)

Has anyone had problem with Nissan Pathfinder atomatic gearbox. Coolant mixing with  trasmission fluid causing gearbox failure and have you had any satisfaction from Nissan  as we seem to have hit a brick wall.My Pathfinder is a 2005 and has done 70 thousand miles but since i bought it in march 2012 i have only done 6000 miles  when gearbox went  it started with a shudder and was told it was a wheel bearing at a cost of 511 pounds.I have since found out that there is a problem known in U.S.A by Nissan but denied in this country.

DO I have to reset the car alarm or anything when I replace the car battery? 2. How often does the battery need to be changed? 3. Are there different types of coolants? 4. I have not changed the gearbox and brake fluid for 3 years, is it time to do so? 5. How can I test whether it is the battery or the alternator that needs to be changed? Many Thanks for your help Sumit
  • Volvo S40 temp guage 27 Apr 2007 (Forum)
So I've got the water pump (and the cam belt) changed (not from Volvo). Car is driving perfectly now, there isn't any coolant leakage or anything but the temperature needle is still in the red zone. When I switch off the car the needle drops down to bottom but as soon I switch it on it shoots up to the red zone. Could it be a fault sensor?
