  I have now got this but it will only switch on when the lights are either switched on or come on automatically. Can anyone give me some idea of why it's doing this and what I can do to remedy the problem. Many Thanks

  I have a Mark 1 Ford Focus bought new in 2001 with a 1.6 petrol engine and Automatic gear box with 43000 miles on the clock, yes 43K. Passed MOT no problems but garage has suggested Timing Belt should be replaced, due I think to age rather than mileage. Can anyone give me any guidance about the adviseability & cost of have a replacement timing belt fitted?

  I have a Mazda 3 sports 2006 model, it has auto sensor healights and noticed when going through a tunnel the dashboard lights went off when headlights switched on automatically. This also occurs when you manually switch on the headlights everytime. Anyone have any suggestions what to check for please as I dont know what to do? Thank you

  The topic on small, petrol automatics prompted me to click away in the Real MPG section. If you choose a manufacturer, each model you click on gives you a Number of RealMPGs submitted . Taking Suzuki as an example, the Alto 2003 gives a total of 42,766.

  I found if i stay put and push the throttle a couple of times the rev counter settles back to idle speed and then the car drives fine. Any ideas? Is this something to do with the automatic choke perhaps? Suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers

  i have read a few horror stories about them, i am looking at getting a 1.6 vvt easytronic but not sure about a semi automatic,i have only driven manual boxes and will probably never use the auto part, does the gearbox need regular maintanence and is it a diy job as i like to do all the routine servicing myself.

  I have replaced the two rear calipers no problem, when i come to reconnect the handbrake cable it appears too short. is there some sort of automatic tensioner that reacted to me releasing the cables to remove the old calipers. if so, how I do release the cable to fit....... Thanks

  Has anyone heard of a  Vauxhall Omega 1999 2Litre automatic Station Wagon's computer going faulty?  When the car was switched on, apparently without the foot even touching the accelerator, it took off on its own, then did the same thing in reverse. Does anyone on this site know of such a thing happening to this particular type of car?

  hi my polo 1.6 automatic 1999 abs light came on i already changed the 2 front sencer code test shows 001 abs pump faulty any idea what need to do battery terminal looks bit rusty in fuses {subject header changed to give brief details of question being asked}

  is it possible to turn off the dip beam lights that automatically turn on when the car starts.I beleive that volvo dealers can do it by resetting part of the cars ecu,however they are likely to charge £40 plus . Is their a DIY option.The function seems to irritate other drivers who often flash thier headlights.Tony

  We have a dispute with a car supersite and would like to make sure of our facts before complaining too loudly. This concerns the automatically adjusting cambelt tensioner pully on the Skoda (VW) 1.6L petrol engine. When you hold it in your hand should it spin freely as a bearing should, or does it feel sticky ?

  I want to go for an automatic gearbox when I buy my next car, but I read a lot about them giving problems. Are any cars renowned for trouble-free auto boxes? I am looking at the new C5. According to HJ's report on the previous C5, the auto gave all sorts of problems.

  Hi, Recently purchased an Audi A4 avant automatic 2.0l. There seems to be a problem with the boot lock. It won't shut properly and I seem to have to drive round with it open and can't lock it at night. Any common problems that I should know of and how would I go about rectifying the problem?

  My Diesel D-4D automatic has had its "engine assist" fade in 2000 miles from new. Engine assist is the partial engagment of the clutch when the brakes are released to make the take up smoother. My 2006 car (same model) had the same fault.

  hi ya just bought a automatic clio rxe 99 and seems fine apart from a couple of times when u put yer foot down it makes a clonk noise, then the injection light comes on and car looses power a bit, if u turn ignition off and restart its fine again?

  Hi, im no to well up on Hyundai Matrix prices GSI 05 plate 1.6 automatic 11 months mot 23 months warranty left 15,000 miles full service history needs taxing mint condition - like new. the owner is an elderly lady. how much is it worth now? i know from speaking to the lads at hyundai i use to deal with, the matrix is extremly reliable and also very spacious.

  I own a regular 2004 mondeo 2 litre manual petrol. My friend acquired (very cheaply), a Rover 827 Sterling automatic on an M plate (1993?) and claims not only is it faster than my car but also apparently more fuel economical as well because the engine doesn't need to be pushed as hard. Does anyone know if this is true?
