Common Rail Diesels 8 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Are these high pressue diesel systems really as bad as I've read? I always thought that diesels not having ignition systems were simpler than petrol engines, but it now seems the reverse is true. Also fuel consumption figures don't appear much different from my 1998 1.4 Civic which rarely goes below 45mpg between fill-ups. -
Diesel newbie questions(s) 23 May 2003 (Forum)
Just bought a ’99 Pug 306 HDi, my first diesel. So, anything I need to be aware of after driving petrol cars for 16 years? I know about the glow plug (!)…how about fuel choice? Are the days of diesels with blackened rear ends over? Any fluid levels I should be keeping a wary I on? -

Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - 05 1.6 diesel. fails start in cold/starting probs 9 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Diesel. Before Christmas failed to start, diagnosed as injector problem (mechanical), eventually resulted in specialist stripping out and reconditioning all 4 injectors. Refitted, together with replacement fuel filter unit, all reprogrammed (2 weeks in garage, mega money). 1 week ago (max 800 miles later), noted oil or fuel leak and LOTs of white smoke on starting, plus juddering at low speeds (below 30mph). -
Peugeot 307 2l hdi 2004 - Fuel gauge not registering refils 3 Mar 2017 (Forum)
After another 60 mile the fuel level was reading lower as you expect, but the next refill again didn't increase on the gauge. What is going on? The gauge correctly shows fuel use but not the refilling. Has anyone any ideas please. -
Peugeot 307 SW (2002 - 2008) - 2005 2.0 How do I prime the fuel filter 27 Feb 2009 (Forum)
The logical next step would have been to release the fuel inlet to allow the filter to drain, but I didn't proceed because I couldn't see a priming pump. Haynes says that some 2.0 diesels don't have priming pumps but it doesn't explain how to prime the system. -

Diesel - The greatest question in the Universe 4 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Why does the noisyness of diesel vehicles vary so much for identical makes/models. Some cars are quiet and subdued at tickover whilst other examples of an identical car can have a sharp percussive clattery sound to them. Any views, driving style, fuel brand etc ????? -
Starting Diesels. 21 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Recently there have been a number of air leaks on diesel filters/fuel pipes resulting in poor cold starting;I try always to remove the complete filter assy. from the engine when doing this job-it is then easy to see that the filter cartridge and seals are correctly fitted than trying to do this by feel and upside down. -
Diesels 5 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Aside from cost, what is the advantage ? Other than longevity, MPG, and in some countries, fuel costs, why else would you choose to drive diesel over petrol ? I might for towing, although I'd prefer a bloody great petrol engine. But I'd choose the petrol every time. Anybody else have a view ? -
Low sulphur diesel 7 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Saw your comments on injector pump failure (Fiesta Oct 6)and wonder if adding 1 cc of SAE 30 to each 1 L of diesel fuel whould not solve this problem. Comments (but not as to the greeness) would be appreciated. Nick -
Biodiesel - Longer Term Verdict 8 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Car 1999 Mercedes C220 CDI Performance There appeared to be no material difference in performance - if anything the power/acceleration seems to be a little smoother with less evidence of the turbo surge when accelerating. Fuel Consumption Fuel Consumption overall was less good than with normal diesel. The fall-off was around 8% even though a handout from the suppliers of the fuel claimed that fuel consumption would improve by about 7%.
