  • Minimum 2 year new car warranty? 18 Nov 2001 (Forum)
I read somewhere on the What Car? web site about about manufacturers giving models a 24 month unlimited mileage warranty - something about a new European standard/directive.... Anybody know anything about this? When does it take effect?
  • Insurance Laws 27 Sep 2001 (Forum)
My girlfriend is getting her new car sooner than expected leaving not much time to flog the old one - about 3 days in fact. She will need to be insured on the new one leaving the old one uninsured. It's taxed and MOTd. I have 'driving other cars' third party cover in my insurance.
  • Golf 1.6tdi se DSG - VW warranty 29 Oct 2016 (Forum)
I bought the car as a one year old car and the car has a standard 3 year new car warrnaty.  The loose trim i think is due to a poor dealer repair carried out under the first owner where the infotainment was repaired and probably necessiated removal of said trim.
  • Ford Focus Estate - Turbo Boost Underpressure 30 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Hi i have a 06 plate ford focus diesel estate 1.6TDCI, the turbo is working but when you get upto 2500 to 3000 revs the turbo seams to stop working and the car goes in to limp mode, i have put the car on a scanner and that shows up a fault code that states "boost low pressure/ underpressure, when its in limp mode and turn off the engine for a few minuites, then restart it it runs fine again untill you reach 2500 to 3000 revs and it starts again. the car has covered 156000 miles an has been a good car untill now.
  • Moving Abroad - Gap in Insurance 3 May 2011 (Forum)
Before heading off, I plan to sell my car and cancel my car insurance.  However, when I get back, I shall want to buy a car and start driving again.  Anecdotally, I have heard that gaps in car insurance coverage can be problematic.

  • Dealer charges - is this right? 14 Mar 2007 (Forum)
The car was first registered in Jun 06, but has covered 15,427, would you buy a car (diesel) with this many miles, or would you walk away?
  • Pre registered cars - 90 day rule 12 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Firstly, we run the risk of having paid for something that we may not own for 1 month and secondly insurers will not explicitly cover a car for which we are not the registered keeper. Has anyone else come across this and if so any ideas??
  • passat tdi stop sign illuminating 16 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Put the car into VW to have it plugged into the vag com no faults recorded. Incidently the car has covered 58,000 miles from new full vw service and extra oil change between services. Anybody any thoughts on this problem?
  • Dealership investigating car problems 3 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Thing is, these problems are fairly intermittent but still quite serious. If I take my car into the Nissan dealership for them to look at and "investigate" the problems, what happens if they do not find anything wrong? Do I get charged for the labour/expenses involved in looking into problems that should be covered by the warranty?
  • 09 Jaguar XF - Rear Disc replacemnts 24 Nov 2016 (Forum)
I pointed out that the car had only covered 16000 miles since new, I use the gears to slow me down most of the time and I do not generally brake hard, therefore I considered the quality of the original discs to be suspect and was assured that this wear and tear on the discs is normal.
  • Vw Passat 07 plate - Just bought a used car which has a issue 14 Sep 2016 (Forum)
I did my research and crossed that on my list as that certainly isn't the cause. After that I asked for one of the engineers to sot in the car and he said it is properly the fly wheel. They kept it in all day and as I went to collect it they saod due to the age and the milage there's nothing they can do. Where if it was a new car they would swap the fly wheel straight away.
  • Why Do Flies Like My Car?? 14 Nov 2014 (Forum)
This may sound a little strange, but its honestly not a wind up! I have a white Ford Mustang, and just lately it seems to be covered in flies every time I go out to it....I don't mean just one or two, but literally swarms of the horrid things. Its like something out of a horror film! My partner's car is parked right next to it, but they don't go on her car, nor on my neighbours car.
  • Insuring second car for under 21 driver 10 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Student (age 20) at my work place has bought an old car for his mother as a present, he already owns a car but now wants to drive the gift car to scotland from cornwall. However he keeps getting told by several insurance companies that as he is under 21 they will not give him temp cover on a second car.
  • Company car - totally confused! 1 Oct 2006 (Forum)
if he gives me this allowance for a loan, would he pay tax on that? is it also normal to pay a fee per mile i cover for the business on top of this? My other reluctance is to buy a car personally and take a loan out as I am looking to buy a house shortly - in our circumstances, are there any benefits for my dad buying the car through the business?
  • BMW 3-Series E36 (1991 - 1998) - 94 2.5l Electric Windows & Sunroof Not Working 3 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Hey all.... I have an E36 325 Tds Saloon. It's an M Reg (1994/1995). Last night, I popped the cover off the map lights as neither of them have worked since I got the car (although the main centre light between them comes on / works fine with normal open and close of doors etc). I also popped the cover off with the sunroof switch in it.
  • Haynes photo cars - what happens to them? 3 Nov 2009 (Forum)
What happens to these cars afterwards? Are they rebuilt and sold on as "normal" used cars? Could one or more of us be driving around in a car that has been reduced back to its component parts and reassembled since leaving the factory?
