  • LPG & Tax 16 Jan 2005 (Forum)
the government were going to tax it more as it changed its mind on its environmental credentials(Hmm..). Has it happened yet? or is it held up with the other petrol/diesel increases announced in the budget but delayed. The reason why I ask is a nearby Morrisons supermarket were selling LPG at 29.9p/litre!, nearly a third of the price of diesel at 83.9p/litre. Should I be driving down to the nearest LPG converter?
  • Cheap Oil 12 Nov 2001 (Forum)
For those of you who live in the south, I have just returned from a day trip to France. In the supermarket at Cite Europe, they are selling Mobil 1 (4 litres) for £20 (195 Francs), compare that to over £30 in Halfords !! Also for the same price is Shell Helix Ultra (Synthetic) Turbo Diesel but 5 litre size

  • In an estate over high fuel costs 30 Jun 2001 (Forum)
Should I keep it and continue paying high prices for petrol and possibly have to buy a pair of new catalytic converters. Convert it to LPG. Sell it and buy a slower diesel 80. Buy an A4 TDi 110 bhp with 100k on the clock for about £10k. or get a nearly new Vectra diesel from a car supermarket? Can I remove the catalytic converts and will I get more mpg?
  • Toyota Verso SR 2.2 Diesel 07 Reg. - Engine noise-rattle 3 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Car has done 33k miles.Started making a rattly noise when increasing throttle also going uphill. No loss of performance. Engine tested(computer) by two Toyota agencies-nothing found. Some "diesel " folk tell me it may be a dirty EGR valve and Injectors! please explain? Also told not to use supermarket fuel. I am starting to use Shell V fuel if that helps-will it take a while to clear? Will there have been any engine damage done?
  • BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 03 1.9 My 318SE petrol sounds like diesel 24 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Just bought a BMW 318SE Auto petrol from a Car supermarket in west London. When car is idle .. below 1,000 rpm I could hear a kind of clunky or diesel sound coming from the engine. the car does have a full service history. Here is a link to a picture of where I think the sound originates from http://www.flickr.com/photos/opensystems/3469178852/sizes/o/in/set-72157617161300359/
  • Honda Civic - B10 Diesel 2 Sep 2022 (Forum)
I have read a lot about B10 Petrol recently and the possible issues surrounding this. My Honda Civic is the 1.6 Diesel version and I have been filling it with fuel from supermarkets, all of which have shown the fuel as B7 Grade. Today, however, I was passing a BP garage where the cost was the lowest in the area so went in to fill up.
  • 2nd hand car and misfuel diesel 18 Sep 2020 (Forum)
Then I am reading people bought a used car with extended warranty but this is not honoured as checks find traces of petrol in a diesel car. I have read supermarket takns can be contaminated.  What is true please rather than hearsay, etc.   Btw, the Grand Cherokee is diesel only and not sure re SRT but that is not for me.
  • Skoda Superb 2003 1.9pd100 - EGR valve issue 3 Feb 2012 (Forum)
However it kept logging an EGR fault. This went away after a few weeks and all remained well until I filled up with supermarket diesel – New EGR fault was soon logged (takes a few miles) . The light clears after a while but then another EGR fault gets logged (always when driven gently).   Looking back when the fault first appeared I had also filled up with the same supermarket diesel as I had a voucher.
  • BMW 530d E60 - Winter Operation 27 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Noise appears to be coming from behind the dashboard/front of car. Noise eventually goes when the engine has warmed up. Any ideas what this can be? Viscosity of diesel at low temperatures or something else in the fuel system or controls? I use Shell, BP or Texaco diesel - no supermarket fuel.

  • Any - Fuel prices 30 Aug 2023 (Forum)
Anyone else noticed petrol and diesel prices creeping up recently? It’s being blamed in distribution issues caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, despite the fact that we haven’t imported any from Russia this year. And supermarkets holding onto a greater margin on fuel sales.
