  I am after a bit of advice from you knowledgable chaps. I am currently driving a 11 year old mazda 6 which hab been reliable enough during the last 4 years I have had it.  It's getting to the point now where it needs a bit of work (suspension, new tyres) and old cars will generally be worse for reliability I will be buying my car from BCA auctions as my father in law is a car trader.

  What are peoples opinions on travelling for a used car?  It seems all the best ones (Toyota Avensis, Estate, Automatic) are 150-200 miles from me, and a 2.5-3 hour journey away.   How does this work? Do you negotiate over the phone, then travel down, test drive, (and if all is ok) leave your old car with them and drive the new one home?

  Your advice please for a large family car, from a novice car purchaser! We are 2 adults, 2 under 5's, currently driving a 14 year old Golf. Love this car as it is so reliable, but noisy, old, takes ages to defrost in the winter... We need more boot space and general space in the car, plus fancy something newer, especially as we travel to visit family on round 250mile trips a few times a year and want to go camping in France this summer, with all our camping gear.

  Hi, having now given up on any dealer finding me a 2 year old petrol on demand 4x4 i've decided to look at older estates and have narrowed it down to an A4 estate, V70 or 3 series estate.  I'm looking at 5-6 yr old cars with up to 65,000 miles and full service history.

  i havent come across any down sides apart from i suppose it will cost more to fix 10 years down the line but the same apples to electric windows,and when you have 2 cars and one has it and one doesnt you have to remember to go back to the old trusted method!

  Epica 20 vcdi. purchase cost was extremely low at 12 months old, car has served me well, warranty problems all dealt with satisfactorily, dealer service now excellent. The epica has almost reached 3 years old, had it mot'd pre-emptively to see if any faults would show up while still in warranty, but ZERO, so all is well.

  My order lists the tax band as being the updated spec. New V5 comes through with the old tax band and g/km on it. Query this with dealership who confirm it is the pre update engine! Where do i stand on this? I now have a car that will cost a lot more to run than I expected of the next few years.

  A good acquaintance is emigrating in April. He drives a one yar old EOS V6 which is noce, but I don't want a two door car. His wife drives an 06 Touran Tdi DSG with leather and SatNav. I know nothing about it other than she is the second owner and is a calm woman.

  Efffect - Car appears to be cured. No erratic idle and no wanting to drive at 1550 revs when in gear. Hope this helps anyone having similar problems.

  s recommendation and the backroom archive were strong factors influencing the decision to buy this car. First impressions are much better quality than the Omega (to be expected at the price), more comfortable, very economical (36 mpg so far) ,but not such a ?driver?s? car. CS

  Following a road accident near Bishop Auckland, Co. Durham on 1.4.2002 when the driver of a motor car ran over and fatally injured a 6 year old child, then stopped, looked back and drove off, many of the veteran posters on this site made various comments. Yesterday a 34 year old male was sentenced, as the driver involved in this incident, at Leeds Crown Court to 2 years imprisonment and banned for 10 years for: Causing Death by dangerous driving (of the four brakes on the car only one was working and that was impaired) Failing to stop after an accident.

By law, what is my legal obligation to the buyer in regards to warranty?

  You can buy crash-damaged cars on e-bay. I'm thinking about buying one with superficial damage for my 18 year old son and fixing it up together. Buyer applies for the V5 apparently. Is this normal? Any insurance implications? Where else could I look for a damaged car?
