  • Police do U-turn on blue washer lights 5 Apr 2004 (Forum)
This may surprise some folk... A chap fitted blue LED windscreen washer lights, as used by boy racers et al. He was seen by the Police who, understandably IMHO, fined him. The motorist, who is too old to be a boy racer even though his car is an ageing Fiesta, didn't want to make a fuss, and stumped up the fine.
  • Xantia Suspension Strange Behaviour Help 27 Jun 2007 (Forum)
i have taken the following notes and measurements on the suspensions settings and behaviour, ive referred to the settings as 1,2,3,4 with 1 being the lowest setting and 4 the highest. from starting the car and putting it on setting one, both the front and rear suspension sits down correctly and measures, front 31cm from arch to wheel centre approx, rear 24.5cm approx then put it to setting 2 (normal ride height) the rear rises up but the front stays down, front 31cm, rear 32cm then setting 3, car sits up properly both front and back nice and level, front 40.5 rear 42.5 then setting 4, rear stays at 42.5 front rises to 45cm thats what happens when you go through the settings, if you go back to setting 1 (lowest) then, setting 2 it behaves as above, if you then go to setting 3, wait for the stop light to go out then put it straight back to setting 2 then the front rises to the normal ride height along with the rear and measures front 38.5 rear 38.5cm if you go from setting 4 (highest) to setting 3 then the front drops down to the bump stops and the rear sticks up on high.

  • Why front end is lower? 19 Nov 2021 (Forum)
Many cars (hatchback, saloon, SUV etc.), when viewing from side, appear as front end lower than back end.  Is it a deliberate design? If yes why so? Do they expect rear end to go down with passengers over time?
  • Punto Evo - new `dogs breakfast` front end? 25 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I always liked the integrated `Maserati` style of the GP - but the new front end on the Evo seems a real `dogs breakfast` to me. Does anyone else think car design is becoming more ugly?
  • JAGUAR X TYPE 2.0D 2007 - JAGUAR X TYPE CODE 34 / FLASHING CODE 34 / 33 7 Aug 2020 (Forum)

  • Giving the battery an easier life 18 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Switch off electrical stuff before killing the engine after the journey. Likewise wait until the engine is running before switching on lights, fan and heated window. Don't manoeuvre with headlights or heated window still on unless you have to. Don't start the car, pull it out of the garage, switch off and then go looking for handbag, gloves, mobile etc.

  • Peugeot 205 diesel hatch - N/S front wheel no drive 8 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Hi, I have lost drive on the n/s front wheel discovered after jacking up the front end. Guess this is a drive shaft issue but is this an easy remedy with replacing or not cost effective? How difficult is this to replace DIY or garage.  The car now has 250,000 on the clock but still runs well and is in great condition for L reg.
  • Rover 420 front brakes 15 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I examined the front brakes on my car and found the front offside outer pad very thin, the other three pads are still thick. The defective pad being on the outside is not operated by the hydraulic piston but by the stub arms.
  • Child allowed in front seat? 9 Aug 2005 (Forum)
    - Does anyone know if under-12 year olds can travel in the front passenger seat of the car, in Germany? (Even with a child seat fitted and seatbelt on?) I don't think it's allowed in France, and I'm not sure about the UK any more? I'm going on a long run up to Denmark next week and am thinking of driving overnight; my son will have more space up-front.
  • Renault Scenic - scenic high idle 9 Mar 2016 (Forum)
I wonder if anybody could assist. I have a 52 reg 1.4l scenic. It has recently been idling at between 1500 and 2000 revs. Car drives fine until it heats up a little and I come to a stop. It then starts to rev up and down between 500 and 2000 revs. Its as though its gasping for air. Checked all pipes for leaks. Changed coils and coolant sensor but no joy.

Does anyone know if it has a heater that ensures you get warm air out of the vents in the winter before the engine heats up? I know diesel engines can take an age to warm up and not all cars have an auxilliary heater. Many thanks, Duncan

  • Best way to remove an air lock? 2 Mar 2006 (Forum)
The Polo (see profile) has had an antifreeze change recently, but they didn't turn the heater control to 'hot' (thus opening the water tap to the heater matrix) and I think there is an air lock. This is because the car is running hot, but not over heating, at about 95C. If you turn the heater on, the temp will drop. After a run, the bottom of the radiator seems just to be warm.
