  • The frost thread 29 Dec 2004 (Forum)
How does everyone deal with really sharp frosts? The last 2 nights around my way the frost was as sharp as any I can remember. My screens on my cars have heated screens but they struggle to cope as only half the elements work. I find a good way of defrosting quickly is slightly open a window then put heater on recycling mode as air must be warmer inside the car than outside.

  • Audi A6 - Used car missing features listed on sales details 17 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I bought a used car from a dealer recently which I saw on Autotrader and Ebay. Both listings showed the car as having heated seats, parking distance control and an iPod AUX input. Turns out after having the car for a few days and consulting the manual the car doesn't have any of these.
  • Call Mazda First - a front for credit hire business? 19 Jun 2013 (Ask HJ)

  • Peugeot 407 Coupe (2006 - ) - Ownership experience. 19 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I've noticed that a lot of things that were standard on my car are now extras. The front and rear parking sensors are vital as far as I'm concerned. It's very difficult to judge where the extremities of the car are (especially the front). The visual display in the car gives a helping hand, more so than the 'beeping'.

  • Ford Ka - Brake performance 23 Mar 2013 (Forum)
The pedal travel seems excessive and the braking efficiency seems poor. Took many attempts to remove the front bleed nipples. Been soaking in penetrating fluid every weekend with no success. Finally resorted to heating the caliper with a gas torch (not hot enough to damage anything except my thumb !) and applying freezer spray down a tube over the nipple.
  • Vauxhall - 05 1.9 tdi Vivaro Starting then dying immediately 10 Jul 2011 (Forum)
Put it into a garage no codes found but I asked them to check fuel filter as I had heard horror stories of filings and destroyed high pressure fuel pumps all was ok on that front. Finally got codes by driving around with comp plugged and codes suggested excessive exhaust gases so EGR valve was taken out and cleaned found to be sticking but was put back in until new part arrived.
  • Front passenger seat folds down for long load 11 Aug 2008 (Forum)

  • PLOD WILL CONFISCATE YOUR CAR 30 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Blunkett wants to prevent hooligans blazing around housing estates by giving police the power to impound the car, to be returned after payment of a release fee. Good idea, thought I. Then I remembered the traffic plod who stopped me for an offence that wasn't an offence. He didn't know the law, we had a heated discussion, and he finally gave in.

  • MG HS - Buyers regret. No thank heavens 9 Dec 2023 (Forum)
Daughter was told that the DAB radio function (missing on some models in the past year or so) and a dab pliug in kit on the windscreen provided instead, had been fixed and new models should arrive fully equipped. So went to order one with the proviso that would check the car before completing purchase and would then pay balance r if not wnated return of deposit.
  • Toyota Avensis (2003 - 2008) - 05 2.0 Condensation in Near Side Headlamp 20 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Dear All, Changed the dipped headlight and sidelight lamps on Saturday morning. Headllight was a bit fiddly due to close proximity of windscreen washer filler pipe. Put car through car wash and noticed a few hours later condensation on inside face of clear head light plastic lense. Could not see how moisture entered headlamp. No damage to headlamp lense and both the head lamp shroud and side light lamp all seamed secure.

  • Microfibre Magic 17 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Hi gang - just bought one of those super duper microfibre cloths tjust to give it a try. Super! Great at removing all sorts of marks from hard surfaces and terrific on the car. Removed my sons' sticky finger marks from the windows and the 'film' which always seems to coat the inside of the windscreen and removing smears etc. from the dashboard etc. Haven't tried it on the exterior as I haven't washed it for a while but I'm sure it's going to be great - we suffer from hard water and unless the car is properly dried after washing any remaining droplets leave an annoying limescale residue.
  • Me got parking ticket, can i appeal? 1 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Hi all, Parked my car on the High Street in High Wycombe today, as its a Bank Holiday Monday, a lot of people were parking their cars a long the High Street like they do on Sundays. I parked my motor in virtually the same spot as i did the sunday last week, but this time as i came back about 10 mins later, there was the dreaded ticket slapped on my windscreen, gulp!!!!
  • new honda civic 30 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Screeching Brakes, creaking underneath which after many visits to the delaer resulted in new suspension struts on a car of 1500 miles! New windscreen seal as faulty. Yes the Honda dealer is helpful but on new honda all of this plus rear body fender not fastened --a Japanese car build in uk. Thing is i changed from bog standard Astras which never had a problem or rattle they just drove.
  • French bred 3 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Particularly noticeable, and impressive, were the many Renault 4, 9 and 11s, some well over 20 years old, most battered and bruised but still up to the job (and with their current MoT equivalent certificates on the windscreen). Perhaps Renault made their cars simpler then and, QED, they were more reliable? Oh (and this hurts) an interesting footnote: was in a Peugeot main dealer with a relative, and noticed the hourly labour rate displayed - 27 Euros (£18ish) an hour.
