  • Alternatives to a civic 23 Jul 2015 (Forum)
The civic was my first diesel and had oodles of torque so would like something similarish in power. On a good motorway run, at the national speed limit I often got 55mpg (brim to brim) which I think is pretty good for a 2.2 diesel. I bought the car for 3.5k from auction, but the market value was £4700 as that is what the insurance company are paying out.

  • Volvo S60 - volvi s60 T5 selling or keeping?? 8 May 2015 (Forum)
I was thinking of selling it for more economical car I.e. Honda civic. My budget is around 2.5k (I know, times are difficult). Volvo runs great, so comfy but thirsty for a 20mile daily commute.I had all the service done on Volvo but it looks like some suspension issues are creeping out. So my question is, is it better to sell or hold on and fix what's needed?
  • Network Rail lunacy 26 Apr 2015 (Forum)
Today I read that several trains are being cancelled to minimise the number that run over a defective piece of track at Leeds City station.  (These include the popular services to Manchester Airport and other Transpennine services). It is stated that this dodgy piece of track cannot be repaired properly till early June.
  • Altea 2.0 TDi Sport 2004 - Seat Altea TDi cruise control 12 Mar 2015 (Forum)
I have a 2.0 BKD TDi engine Altea, has 94k on the clock, nearly a FSH. It runs pretty well apart for 2 issues; when on cruise if you get to a downhill stretch it will not keep a constant speed, it will apply, let off and then re-apply throttle. On a flat or uphill it is fine.

  • Why does my ford Mondeo misfire? 26 Jan 2015 (Ask HJ)
My 2001 Ford Mondeo 2.0 petrol has developed a misfire at around 1500 - 2000rpm. Any idea what the problem might be?
  • Ford fiesta 1.4 Tdci - Judder/miss fire 23 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Hi, I have a ford fiesta 1.4 tdci 2007, recently I noticed when cruising I get a slight judder, when I take my foot of the throttle and apply again it seems to go, also on start up from cold it seems to miss fire for about a minute or so then idles/runs ok, but you hear a diesel knock when pulling away, but again this goes when up to temp, anyone have any ideas what could be the fault on this? Have been told the throttle pedal could have a flat spot in it that may course the judder/miss fire when cruising but not when first started in the mornings, many thanks

  • Big car luxury in a small car and on a budget. 7 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Ideally it should have 4 seats but as the rears will only ever be used by my kids it doesn't matter if it's a bit cramped in the  back :-) I only have a budget of about £3,000 and was wondering what is out there that is comfortable with a ride that easily soaks up the  bumps from our potholed roads, is pretty quiet at motorway speeds, will do 0-60 in less than 10 seconds and will be reliable and cheap to run. Any suggestions? Cheers!
  • Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi Mk2 - Limp Mode, split in rubber hose / connector 12 Sep 2014 (Forum)
Hi, I'll try and keep this short :-) My Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi Mk2 keeps going in to limp home mode but showing no errors and appears to be OK after turning off and on the engine - but under load (e.g. up a hill) will go back in to limp home mode and kick out a cloud of smoke. Under the bonnet I've noticed a rubber connector has split that runs from the engine to the exhaust - I'm sure this is the issue but I don't know what part that is, and so what part to buy as a replacement! See pic here (middle of picture): http://i62.tinypic.com/244oenk.jpg Any help appreciated, Andy
  • Should I buy a small car? 6 Sep 2014 (Forum)
The journey to the new office is six miles of urban main road north out of Manchester with 30 mph speed limits and no obvious open road.   I am tempted to buy a cheap petrol run around and leave the S-max in the drive unless I have further to go and need my SatNav, Bluetooth etc etc. If I spent £1,000 am I being sensible?  I want short and narrow so an old boxy Daihatsu springs to mind.....

  • Audi A4 - Accident damage - main dealer or approved repairer 4 Aug 2014 (Forum)
I've been the victim of a hit and run which has caused damage to my vehicle. Police are involved and there is evidence which is being examined. My insurer is pressuring me into using their approved garage to repair rather than me using my preference which is main dealer.
  • Ford Focus - Full disclosure when selling my car? 30 Jul 2014 (Forum)
I have been honest about this in classified ads and when people have rung up and asked whether there have been any issues with it, but clearly it has put people off. Seeing as it runs perfectly now, am I unnecessarily disclosing this info? Should I just keep schtum, say it is in good working order and leave it at that?   Cheers for the advice.
  • Have you been a victim of a scam on Gumtree? 27 May 2014 (Forum)
The BBC programme 'Rip Off Britain' plans to run a feature on Gumtree, specifically the listing of non-existent vehicles by organised criminal gangs.  What they need is an interview with at least one VICTIM, someone who has sent money for a car without actually seeing it.

Hello everybody!! First time posting here and its because i really need help. I run a small repair shop. so I was wondering if there is some  reasonable priced car diagnostic tools that would be able to bring my garage into the 21st Century?
