Rocket fuel ? the future ? 26 Oct 2005 (Forum)
In a rocket the fuel is burned all in one shot, to get the thing airborne with the least possible delay. In a car, of course, it isn?t that way, controlled burning is needed. Researchers have found that if the iron is powdered to nanoparticles it reacts with oxygen so readily that it needs not much heat to get it going. -
1996 BMW E36 Heater fault 21 May 2005 (Forum)
I'm now driving a 1996 BMW 316i fitted with manual A/C that my family have owned from new. We've never had any noticeable heating problems with the car or any bother with the cooling system. However, the heater seems to have stopped blowing warm air, at best I'm able to get some lukewarm ait through if I turn the temperature dials (it has two) to maximum. -
Locally overpriced S/H cars 14 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Hi there I live near Perth in Scotland and have been aware for some time that a car with a windscreen price of say £5K in Glasgow/the central belt or even the north of England will usually be at least a grand more expensive here in Perth. I noticed this today on a well known internet auction site: http://tinyurl.com/yftybns Okay, it's in good nick, but £5K for a car coming up for 12 years old, they have to be kidding!? -
Poor starting - Mondeo 1.8 lx 14 Oct 2004 (Forum)
On cranking there is a loud clicking noise which seems to come from glovebox area when sitting in the car. Eventually car starts and then runs well. Serviced only recently and new plugs/leads. Weird thing however is that as car is trying to start the the windscreen wipers move across the screen (even though not turned on) and the central locking seems to be activating. -

2 new tyres - on the front or rear? 7 Apr 2002 (Forum)
It appears that when fitting just 2 new tyres these should be put on the rear, regardless of whether the car is front or rear wheel drive. My car has front wheel drive, and I would have thought that new tyres on the front would give better steering, better braking and aquaplane resistance in the wet, and a lower risk of a puncture (which from experience I prefer in the rear). -

Half dead cat? 1993 vw polo 8 Jun 2005 (Forum)
It seemed to be coming from the exhaust system, but where exactly, was hard to pinpoint. Then, I thought I had found the problem. The next time I was under the car, the centre box was blowing at the weld from the silencer to the pipe. This weld had failed, which allowed the rearmost pipes to twist, letting it hang lower that it should. In turn, this was allowing certain parts to catch the heat shields, which is what I thought was causing the rattle, which was starting to get worse. -
Omega query: tie-rods fouling alloys. 4 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Before (only that morning) I could drive on "full lock" - no grating noises from the front wheels though! (Even I can tell it's full lock because the steering refuses to turn any more and PS pump starts complaining loudly). Can someone shed some light on this please - fortunately I don't need to use the car this week but want to speak to the garage and would like to be armed with a few facts. -
