  • Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 1998 1.2L Engine stopped won't re-start. 19 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Hi, My daughter recently bought one of these and it was running fine then suddenly the engine stopped running as she was driving along the road and now wont even turn over. She stopped and as she did there was a bit of smoke from the engine and a smell of burning electrical.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 2000 - HDI Diesel that kangeroos in the wet 15 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Surely if the sensor was faulty it would do it ALL the time not just when it's wet. The dealer re-sets the management light and the engine runs fine again.

  • speed camera warning signs 31 Oct 2007 (Forum)
do speed cameras still have to have the warning signs on the approach , i went past one today ( it was all grey and hard to notice until i was basically level with it) and i didnt see any camera warning signs as i approached, in fact there arent any cause i went by again to check, IIRC from speed awareness course the chap running it said they have to provide camera warning signs AND the speed limit on the particular road concerned displayed on the run up to the scamera is that still the case or have i been had?
  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - Road noise 11 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Astra 2001 1.6 16v estate fitted with cheap tyres produces road noise and a 'drumming' when run over 'town' viz., urban roads. It has been found that this increases a lot with relativity small increases tyre temperature (say atfer a 40 mile hispeed motorway run @70/80mph or even being in hot sun or several hours)?

  • C230 Central Locking 1 Nov 2006 (Forum)
The doors always open succesfully from the remote and the alarm will also activate and de-activate so there is no problem with the infra-red detection, The boot pump does not run during locking but always runs on opening so something is lost between the infra-red and the pump. This fault sometimes clears during Hot weather so I suspect it's damp related, also the auto window close fails if the locking does not work.
  • Ford friendly independant Woking area? 3 Oct 2006 (Forum)
My gf's Fiesta Zetec was just out of warranty when the car started running badly and the engine management light came on. Had it towed to Dagenham Motors in Byfleet who did a reasonable job and changed the coil. Today, a couple of months later, the light is back on but no apparent misfiring or poor running this time.
  • seat altea 2.0tdi dsg fuel consumption 10 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Had mine 3 months and 3000 miles now - doing 39 mpg overall, bit lower per gallon than I had hoped for. Mixed usage so far, average run is over 9 miles minimum with some longer journeys. It may loosen up a bit more yet, but does anyone else run one and know what mpg they're getting? DSG box is great, little bit lumpy at low speeds but great to live with.
  • Fiat Punto CVT servicing 15 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Currently run a 1.2 16V Fiat Punto CVT (Speedgear). It runs as sweet as the proverbial nut but at 10,000 miles I've noticed a grinding noise coming from the front brakes. I'm guessing that the pads need to be replaced; although it's an auto and the brakes need to be used more, would this be 'average' mileage as it seems a bit early???
  • Blank radiator on diesel Berlingo 27 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Generally speaking this gives an indicated water temperature of 90-100 degress with a pressurised system. Now I know diesel engines naturally run cooler. The 2.0HDi turbo-diesel in my Berlingo Multispace runs at 80 degrees, and never goes above this. Is there anything to be gained by blanking off part of the radiator to raise the water temperature, or is there no benefit on a diesel?

  • when to dispose of a car ? 3 Nov 2005 (Forum)
No doubt the car is worth very little. It runs well but looks shabby. He doesn't have much cash to spare, having young children, but I wonder if it is worth keeping any longer. Any thoughts ?
  • Ford Ka (2005) fuel consumption 25 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I worked out my last tanks' mpg and it worked out at 45mpg, but that was pretty much half town driving and half doing long runs. I suppose if i went on a long run i could easily get 50mpg or poss even a little more! What mpg are other Ka owners getting? Both endura 'e' and duratec owners, I would be interested to hear your experiences.
  • Dash lights - '93 405 14 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Hello all I've been registered for a while now and have been watching the goings-on with awe. And now I'd like a little advice please. I've got a '93 L Peugeot 405 1.6 that runs fine but recently the dash warning lights (oil, battery, STOP, temp, fuel) all come on together occasionally if I brake hard or corner enthusiastically (not that I do that m'lud). The car shows no sign of being about to stall and carries on running ok.
  • Berlingo Problems.. 20 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Driving home tonight, sudden loss of power and a knocking sound from the drivers side of the engine (Near the top). Car starts OK (ish) and will run but continues to knock runs rough and has low power. All sorts of horrible things went through my mind from a disintegrating cam belt to broken pistons or cam shafts! As the knocking isn't regular it seems that maybe it isn't the failure of a major mechanical part.
  • Petrol grades and unleaded 4 star 22 Oct 2004 (Forum)
My BMW 530 handbook recommends 98 octane. I only recently noticed this weeks after buying the car and running it on 95 octane. The Sainsbury's unleaded 4 star is 97 octane. Is this a poor man's Optimax? Incidently my 3 year old 530 runs well on 95 but I must try Optimax soon and compare it.
  • Citroen Xsara Diesel Revs 28 Jul 2004 (Forum)
In the FAQ section, it says you should run a diesel to 4,500rpm a couple of times a week. Is this true for all cars? I have a S-reg Xsara and the red section on the rev counter starts at 4,750rpm. It's not often I get above 3,000rpm in normal driving.
