  • Volkswagen Golf - Automatic VW Golf won't change into 4th gear 29 Aug 2018 (Forum)
My Volkswagen Golf, 2003 automatic model has problems changing from 3rd to 4th gear. For the first 5 minutes of the journey gear changing is fine, changing into 4th with no problems. But after around 5 minutes of driving the car will go from 3rd to 4th and straight back down to 3rd.
  • Xsara gear change 28 Feb 2005 (Forum)
As far as I know the oil in the gearbox has never been changed - would this help. Also, I'm thinking that because it's difficult to pull out of gear, something might need to be adjusted clutch-wise. Interestingly, it's a lot better when the car is warm or it's been sitting in slow moving traffic with the clutch depressed for a while.
  • Honda CR-V - Car Servicing 25 Oct 2017 (Forum)
I have ordered new filters and will replace them. I told HOnda my complaint and they said the airfilter was changed last year and is good for two years, and the engine filter was changed last year and is good for three years or 36,000 miles. They confirmed that they had changed the oil and oil filter and other servicing had been done.
  • 2006 KIA Sorento 2.5 diesel - Any problem in using a low SAPS oil in older car? 9 Apr 2016 (Forum)
I’d prefer fully synthetic as he isn’t too keen on regular oil changes and from reading other forums I am opting to use 5w30. I have found some Mercedes brand low SAPS 5w30 fully synthetic on eBay for £35 for 10l and £55 for 20L which seems to be a very good price.
  • Mazda MX3 - Engine Flush or No? 1 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Hi All, Just bought an MX3 (1.8i V6 version, 1996 at 77k). It needs a service soon, so I'm gonna start with the oil and work my way along. Now I know about the HLAs, and how they can get clogged up. I've also heard some people recommend doing an Engine Flush during the oil change to clear them of any debris etc.
  • Pernicious mendacity in the Sunday Times 17 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Chap asks whether he should change his oil more often than every 9k. Says that his American friends change every 2k. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2105-577548,00.html "...with some manufacturers warranting engines up to 100,000 miles, you can bet that their servicing schedules have the best interests of the engine at heart."

  • Citroen C4 Picasso - Warranty Difficulties 7 Apr 2011 (Forum)
This is where the problems start - my last service was carried out by a local independant garage and the car needed an oil change and oil filter. The receipt and invoice was in the log book. 3 weeks later i get a phone call back from the dealer saying that warranty will not authorise the repair as the oil used in the service was not the correct grade as noted in the maintenance book.

  • Honda Civic - 100,000 miles 29 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Prompted by the thread "How much oil does your high miler use". My trusty '96 1.5 lsi auto is about to hit the 100k miles mark. I have driven 83k of them during my ownership since 2002, all on the motorway. During this time I have looked after it with oil changes at least every 6k, usually 5k.
  • Seized sump nut. 6 Dec 2001 (Forum)
I thought I had found something close to it today.........But, A major high street tyre specialist are offering oil and filter change for £10 with Duckhams oil or £15 with semi synthetic. Any car up to 2:3L. My 10 year old Volvo 360 (two litre B200K non injection) fitted the bill. The outlet in Warrington were very obliging, ordering in a filter as they didn't have one in stock and today I went along for the job.
  • Mini Hatch One 2007 (57) - Overheating issue 20 Nov 2014 (Forum)
The symptoms: Engine overheats after about 20-25 miles of careful (max 50mph) driving. The "oil pressure low" light comes on, and the engine smells really hot. There is no loss of oil, no change in the oil colour (the oil was recently changed, and is still a nice clear golden colour), and the engine coolant pink water is not going down.

  • BMW E36 old age care! 10 Sep 2017 (Forum)
'Box oil change likely to be worthwhile doing? Nearside front wing is a tad bubbly around the arch and will probably be replaced, previous owner already attended to the offisde. Bit of a looming headlining issue, with it drooping in various places.

Done a DPF forced regen and reset. Still no power. After doing the oil change I was sure the turbo kicked in for a very short period and I have just taken the car out again and no turbo.
  • opel astra 1.3cdti - Squeeling noise 20 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Hi a noise came into the engine of my astra .I thought that the drivebelt wwas slipping but changed that .Then i checked all pullies worked by the drive belt.I took off the belt and ran the engine but the squeeling noise was still there .The noise was coming from the oil fliter/turbo area .I contacted the main opel dealer and they told me it sounded like the turbo was the fault.I got a local mechenic  who said it was the vaccum control valve connected to the turbo or the turbo its self .I got it run through a dionostics test and the guy said it was showing air pressure drops and it was the turbo.I replaced the turbo vaccum valve changed the oil and filters checked feed pipes etc made sure everything was spot on .But when i started the van the squeeling noise was still there just as bad .Anyone have any ideas ?
  • Ford Mondeo Mk3 2.0 TDCi 130 - Low running temperature 23 Dec 2010 (Forum)
A while ago when I was looking through this site, I found a link to a simple set of instructions on how to change the: 'Oil Cooler Thermostat' on a 2.0TDCi Mondeo. These instructions showed a way of changing this thermostat  that did not involve removing the inlet manifold? Does anyone have any idea where this link is?
