VW Passat Oil Change 7 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I have heard that the VW enigine has sensors that pick up certain chemicals in the oil and if they are not present the ECU switchs to safe mode. Is this just an urban myth? Thanks New2TDI -
Mk3 Golf 1.6 aft eng 80k hesitates accel 28 Apr 2005 (Forum)

SuperChips - Have you used or heard of? 28 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Has anyone used or heard of the company called SuperChips? Basically what they do is re-program your ECU to improve performance etc. NB: I have a dual fuel Vectra which simply doesn't run quite as smoothly when running on LPG compared to petrol (new plugs and leads helped a bit but didn't completely resolve the problems), I'm thinking of trying these guys to iron out the problem further. -
ecotec probs - Vauxhall Cavalier 8 Apr 2005 (Forum)
hi,i have a 1995 2.0 gls 16v injection cav,it has been fine untill the other day the ecu warning light came on,i used the home method of shorting the pins out to be able to read the codes, which were,24-vehicle speed sensor-no signal and 92-camshaft sensor-incorrect signal,i was hoping that you may be able to tell me, A: does the car have to be running to get the vss or is the sensor just no good and B: what does incorrect signal on the cam sensor mean is it that the sensor has gone or has it got to be adjusted to get the correct signal.Could you also tell me if poss what is involved in changing both sensors, any help would be most appreciated. -
driving a tacho 9 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I need to find a suitable signal to drive a rev counter (aftermarket). I know on a petrol this would drive off the coil or ignition module / ecu. The car its going in has neither. I have been told before it will drive off the 'w' terminal on the alternator. Can anyone confirm? Also what kind of voltage would a coil's negative terminal give off? -
Primera 1.6i idle speed 23 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Switch it off, idle rpm drops to may be around 400 or so, difficult to tell as there are no marks on the tacho between 0 and 1000. In both cases it idles perfectly stable, never stalled. ECU also seems to do its job correctly by slightly upping rpms if a/c is turned on. I wonder if this was a mistake made by a dealer who did the last service (that was before I bought the car), i.e. he adjusted idle speed with the fan on instead of off ? -
Astra Cutting Out ! No apparent reason 15 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Never happens at speed (less than 30mph)Normally 10-15 minutes into a journey but sometimes later. Been in Garage and 'plugged in' 3 times, no results. Nothing stored in ECU fault logs. Car runs perfectly but for these cut outs. Vague hunch from mechanic of Distributor? (red cap, 3 pin) NO OTHER PROBLEMS except this. (Started after visit to garage to re-align gears and new bush fitted to bottom of gear leaver) Please Please help, it does it in the middle of roundabout's and junctions. -
Transit connect TDCI problems 2 Mar 2004 (Forum)
The fault is intermitent yellow glow plug light and then lack of power as it goes in limp mode. Ford have changed the fuel pump, put 2 lots of injectors in, new ecu and reprogrammed the keys twice, still no luck. I know there is a lot of problems with the mondeo tdci engine but has anybody on here had problems with the van tdci. I think the engine is the 1.8 90 horse tdci. -
VW Passat Tdi110 Loosing Power 19 Dec 2003 (Forum)
If you accelerate hard in say 3rd gear, as the rev counter reaches about 3000rpm, which must be about maximum boost pressure from the turbo, the engine looses power as though the turbo had been disconnected. I suspect the ECU has detected a problem & restricted the fuel supply. I swopped the Air Flow sensor off my Tdi Golf but symptoms were exactly the same. You can hear the turbo still singing after the power loss but there is obviously not enough fuel reaching the injectors. -
Mono-Motronic Audi/Pug/Citroen 19 Feb 2003 (Forum)
A quick question, despite the instructions on my Gunson FCR quoting my engine code (ABT), why can't I pull the fault codes from the ECU? Any other way of getting to 'em? -
Golf MkIII Diesel - Starting problem 22 Nov 2002 (Forum)
This happened having started the car, driven several miles and then parking for 10 minutes. It wouldn't seem to be a battery problem, so am guessing possibly an earth or ECU problem. Has anybody else had this problem or can suggest where to start looking? Also, any idea what OEL stands for, as it doesn't appear in the owners handbook. I'd be grateful for any assistance. -
BMW ABS WARNING LIGHT. 24 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I found some info on a website saying that BMW ABS problems are usually to do with a sticky ABS pump motor relay, wheel sensor or the ABS ECU (expensive). I have checked the relays and they seem to be fine. Does anyone have any knowledge on this matter, I would be grateful if anyone has -
Vauxhall Corsa C 1.7 DI GLS - Lack of Power/Gutless 18 Oct 2011 (Forum)
EGR is operating however block of EGR to try to improve performance, car is running better, advise customer to try and return if not happy. 11. The Technician suggested it could be the ECU, the fuel pump or maybe the injectors. I found a guy on eBay that re-programmes second hand ECU’s to your car at £200 and as I described the fault he thought that it was the ECU at fault and would change it and if this was not the fault he would only charge £50 for the visit and re-programming. -
Peugeot 806 MPV (1995 - 2003) - 01 2.0 Fuel pressure sensor fault 21 Jan 2010 (Forum)
On checking various forums and threads, this seems to be a common complaint with many hdi engines...with a number of possible causes. All Previous faults on the ecu were cleared and the diagnostics run again. On running a second diagnostic on the car, two faults were coming up:- Glow plug relay Fuel pressure sensor The engine management light continues to stay on. -
Toyota Starlet - Coolant temperature sensor and temperature gauge 31 Mar 2022 (Forum)
So now I have: Old sensor: temp gauge works, but engine won’t start properly New sensor: temp gauge over-reads, but engine starts Researching these sensors a bit more, it seems that this sensor contains 2 separate thermistors - presumably one for the ECU and one for the gauge. Which suggests that the ECU thermistor on the new sensor is OK but the gauge one is not. I'm not sure if it's faulty or just the wrong model. A genuine Toyota sensor from Camskill costs £63 while a Facet one is listed for £32 (but I haven't found one in stock yet). -
Nissan Qashqai - Qashqai, loss of power, alarm going off etc 29 Mar 2020 (Forum)
If those 3 things are happening, it all points to multiple electrical faults??? In which case why are they not considering ECU? Any ideas most welcomed thank you. -
Audi A4 B6 - Stuttering engine then stall - 2004 1.9 TDI 23 Apr 2019 (Forum)
Recent work done had been vacuum valve and crank sensor replaced. First, discovered a flooded plenum chamber and water in relays under ECU which caused limp mode plus soaked carpets inside drivers and rear passenger behind driver side. Cleared blockage and dried out relays and all appeared good. 2 days later I got CEL light and code P0230 but car still ran fine. -

Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2003 1.8 Zetec Tdci 115 fuel consumption 18 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Another thing I have vaguely wondered about but wouldn't really consider without making very, very sure, is an ECU remap - does anyone have any experiences??. I can see that the benefits of tailoring the ECU settings to get the best performance/economy but also a bit concerned about possible side affects. thanks chris -

This is only if i try to floor the pedal and hold it. otherwise daily driving and no boost the car drives perfect but not power:( Like driving a 1.8 that wishes it could hahaa ONLY codes now are >>Cyl.3 Misfire Detected >>Cyl.2 Misfire Detected >>also have 18014-P1606 Rough Road Spec Engine Torque ABS-ECU Electrical Malfunction NOW my question is could Rough Road Spec Engine Torque ABS-ECU Electrical Malfunction make my car do this? I'm in this fix for a good $1200 now and really don't think it's the ABS unit that could make my car act this way.
