Citroen C3 - Timing belt degradation 2 Apr 2024 (Forum)
Obviously I understand if the timing belt had broken that will cause great damage but in terms of a timing belt degradation what damage could possibly be caused to my engine ? The car was running fine, no typical signs of a timing belt issue until the red warning light came on and requested I turn the engine off. Hoping someone on this forum can help a complete and utter car novice understand the scope of the issue- thank you in advance -

When was ‘peak petrol’? 27 Jan 2024 (Forum)
Seems to be a consensus of opinion that ‘peak diesel’ was the early 2000s. Common rail or PD injection systems that give relatively quiet running, easy cold starting, plenty of torque, tall gearing, decent fuel economy and none of the emissions related DPF and AdBlue problems that blight newer diesels. …but when was/is peak petrol? The demise of new internal combustion engines over the next decade or two could suggest that we’ve not peaked yet, but a lot of future investment will be spent on EV, hydrogen etc. -
Nissan X-Trail - Trouble starting - but the battery's as strong as 20 Jan 2024 (Forum)
My usual mechanic thought it might be the glow plugs but tested them and they were fine. Once it's been running for a few seconds it'll start again no problem and will give me no bother for the rest of the day. Can anyone think of anything it might be, before I take it to another garage and get scalped? -
Ford fiesta. - Thoughts?low mileage, 2k in 2 years. Is this good? 4 Sep 2023 (Forum)
I would appreciate anyone's thoughts on purchasing a 45k miles fiesta that has only done 2k in the last two years I always buy low mileage but know under use can be as bad as overuse . Things I was going to check , battery, flat spots on tyres. , blocked water runs and rust - tail gate etc. , oil change regardless of mileage. Fluids in general. I once bought a low mileages pristine sports car and the turbos blew within a week as the oil channels were blocked through lack of use. -
Renault Austral - First Impressions 12 Aug 2023 (Forum)
I’m currently running a Renault Austral, ahead of its launch in the UK later this summer. Only had it a couple of days, but probably done 300 miles so far. It’s the replacement for the Kadjar, in that it’s a C segment SUV, with a 1.2 ICE linked to a full hybrid system. -
Car tyre - how many to change 21 Jun 2023 (Forum)
The rear tyres were recently changed, and the front ones had have around 4mm of tread left, which I was hoping would last until winter. What's the best option to save money without costing me more in the long run : buying the used tire for £25 replacing only one front tyre with a new one Or changing both front tyres with new ones? Here is a photo of the plug -
Vauxhall Combo 2009 - Trouble with key barrel 9 Jun 2023 (Forum)
When I took the key out, the dashboard lights wouldn't turn off. This made me wonder if the power was still running, and sure enough, windscreen wipers still on, so only way I can get the power to go out is by disconnecting the battery. So I have power, can turn the key but no start...is this an immobiliser issue, a key issue or key barrel issue? -

We have 2x200 mile journeys each week and 3-4 times per year we make a near 600 mile round trip to visit my family. So the miles are high therefore mpg and running costs are important to us, as well as comfort. Does anyone have any suggestions? -
Land Rover Discovery Sport - Broken electronic handbrake switch 11 Mar 2023 (Forum)
The part is available on eBay but it won’t cut the mustard as a genuine part. How long should I let this run it’s course? Could the car be written off because of this? Has anyone else had this issue? Any recommendations? Thank you. -

Daihatsu Skywing - Turn Indicator Circuit and LED Substitution? 4 Feb 2023 (Forum)
The wiring loom probably needs replaced (multiple issues) but I'm thinking that, as a work around for the turn indicators, I could run three LEDs (plus a resistor as necessary) in series off each working circuit, to give me two working lights in each location. Any forseeable issues with this, apart from the hassle of actually doing it? -
MGB - MGB (Modified) way down on power 1 Dec 2022 (Forum)
Got a ‘68 MGB that I bought with a 1950 Oselli engine that has been dry stored for a few years. I’m struggling to get it running well. It has been extensively recommissioned with a new stage 2 head, Weber, and 123 distributor. Sent it in to be set up on the rolling road and is way down on power - 65hp at flywheel. Compression is very good. -

Ford Focus Estate - Advice on engine size for Ford Focus Estate 25 Sep 2021 (Forum)
Hi all, I’ve placed an order for a new Ford Focus Estate, I went for the 1.0 MHEV 125ps engine. I’m going to be using this mostly for driving round town, school runs etc that’s why I went for that engine. But occasionally we’ll be doing long trips for family holidays. This will consist of 2 adults, children, prams, fully laden roofbox and a golden retriever in the boot. -
Hyundai I10 or Skoda CitiGo 8 Sep 2021 (Forum)
This is from a main dealer, which is where she will buy the car from Anyone know what justifies this premium for the Skoda, and does anyone have views about the merits or otherwise of such cars for a newish driver who needs reliability, easy to drive and park, cheap running costs, and avoid attracting the wrong kind of attention regarding catalysts converters (the current one was hacked off whilst parked in the street at work - despite it being a 20 year old car) -
Toyota Yaris 1.0 2002 - Misfiring 10 Aug 2021 (Forum)
After I cleared the codes, it would shut down the engine straight after starting, but today I revved it a bit and it managed to run on idle for a bit, still sounding funny. This is accompanied by strong smell of petrol. At this stage I am reluctant to pay to get it fixed due to agem but in case it's something obvious or cheap, I may still do it. -
Ford Focus zetec 1.6 tdc 59 plate - Focus Rough idle when warm 29 Jun 2021 (Forum)
Hi my 59 plate focus has a rough idle when it's been driven a for 20 - 30 minutes, it's fine on start up, it drive fines no hesitation but when it comes to a stop it idles rough, I Googled it and read that it could be the MAF sensor The air filter is fairly new and I've changed the MAF yesterday and took it for a 10 minute spin to get it warm and it seemed fine. but this morning when I got to work 30 minutes away it was idling rough again, (how I know its after a 20 - 30 minute run) Any help appreciated, Thanks in Advance -

Ford Transit Custom - Bought via auction without V5 unable to Tax & MOT 7 Jun 2021 (Forum)
So my questions are - 1 - do I need to wait 6 weeks (or longer during covid) for the V62 postal application to DVLA for a log book to run it course or is there a more efficient way for this to happen. 2 - the van will be repaired by next week - once we have the van MOT ready do we have to do anything more than MOT it and Tax it to get it back on the road thanks in advance
