• 2 new tyres - on the front or rear? 7 Apr 2002 (Forum)
  It appears that when fitting just 2 new tyres these should be put on the rear, regardless of whether the car is front or rear wheel drive. My car has front wheel drive, and I would have thought that new tyres on the front would give better steering, better braking and aquaplane resistance in the wet, and a lower risk of a puncture (which from experience I prefer in the rear).

  heating fan cut out on my gf's scenic so replaced the resistor then found that the fan itself had died (and taken the replacement resistor with it :~( ) Bought a second had fan that worked (12v battery test) and got a second hand resistor from ebay looks identical but.....

  Is it usual for these brass/copper tpieces to hot up? I don,t want to put insulation tape on until I know whats causing the wire to heat up. I ran another live feed from the ignition and the same wire heated upo again (the feed to the fuse box).   I've had an issue with water ingress in the driver's footwell after the recent downpours. I've been to the local dealership who have now looked at the car and think that the ingress is due to leaves blocking the drain holes under the windscreen. They want to charge five hours' of labour at £92 per hour for draining the holes. I told them I found this excessive and they've agreed to charge me for thee hours.

  Hi all, my son has just bought a 2010 Freelander and there is a wiper fault. They stop in the middle of the windscreen when they are set on constant or intermittent, even if you press the washers to clean the screen they sometimes will not work. The car is in the garage that it was bought from but like all good intermittent faults it is being a good boy with them. their diagnostic computer is not showing any faults, so they have a water hose on the screen with the wipers on but as yet they have not stopped.

  The drivers footwell is saturated in water. I can see it running in behind the petals but don't know where it is coming in from outside the car. Some forums say the pollen filter can cause this problem but can it come from there and end up in the drivers side?? Are there drains for water coming off the windscreen. I really don't know where to go from here so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  How does the element deteriorate? Does it change its composition over time carbon build up or something? I've never had a car over ten years old where the demister worked properly, which is irritating as rear windows with demisters are expensive to replace, something I wouldn't do anyway. But it is such an inconvenience, even if you stop to wipe they can mist up again before it has warmed up the windscreen enough.

  Before I start messing around with watering cans and torches can anyone suggest a likely source for the leak. Initial thoughts were in no particular order: Windscreen seal, pollen filter (I know a blocked filter can cause leaks on other cars not sure about Hondas though), door membrane. Many thanks 9000.

  Quick help required to save a trip to the dealer (Car is under warranty) Y Reg 1.3 CDX Yaris. Windscreen washer pump not running on demand - cannot positively identify fuse nor can I find a blown fuse (both fuse boxes). No other electrical equipment failing to operate and Oh - the rear wash is working OK.

  Ive checked the drainage points on the inside of both wings and they are not blocked. I have read I need to remove the windscreen wiper arms as there are another 2 drainage points underneath. I can't get the windscreen wiper arm off. Ive read that you need to press down on the wiper blade 6cm from where the nut is and it should pop up but its no luck.

  hi guys i am confused with my car, there seems to be a slight tinny rattle sound comeing from under the car (i suspect the excaust?) i think it might be this silver thing under the car looks like a heat shield thing, has anyone got any ideas or experienced a similar problem?

  In shopping around for new quotes, we will no longer be bothering with extras such as protected NCD, uninsured losses protection, or comprehensive on low value cars with cheap-to-replace windscreens. We will probably stay fully comp on the Honda Legend (expensive windscreen) and with 'name' companies for the car most likely to go abroad (inclusive Continental cover and 'free' Green Card).

  When there I also explained I'd noticed the alternator had been making a loud whining noise when under load, which got quieter the fewer things you had switched on (lights, heater, heated windscreen etc). I left saying something along the lines of "I'll leave it in your capable hands as I don't know enough about it myself". An hour later I got a call from the garage to advise that when on the rolling road for emissions testing at the MOT testing station, which is a couple of miles drive from the garage, my car suddenly cut out making some terrible noises and burning smells.

  Usually on the 2nd and recently more commonly 3rd try it starts. I've noticed that if I leave the ignition at the same position for the pre-heat thing for five extra seconds after the pre-heat light goes off, it appears to help. Any ideas what it might be and if I can fix myself and avoid an expensive garage visit?
