Protection from rear impacts 13 Sep 2007 (Forum)
s forward-facing seat to be strapped into the front passenger seat in a ?99 Micra in case anything runs into the back of the car. Bit of a dilemma really, if you?re after a car which is shortish in length (perhaps you have limited parking space) ? but need to be able to seat people in the back. I? -
Accident, unusual circumstances. Please, 31 May 2005 (Forum)
Now, where do I stand at the moment ? I obviously hit the car, but how about the circumstances as I actually was running for my and my wife's lives. I am still not 100% sure the guy will claim, as I saw quite a few unrepaired dents on his car, which he claimed were the results of people hitting him. This got me thinking he never claimed that or it would've been repaired, if he wasn't at fault or insured comperehensively. -
Harley Davidson Powertrain factory tour 15 May 2005 (Forum)
The well honed manner in which each engine (350 per day) is hooked up for a hot test at the end of production, and unhooked afterwards (just seconds each time), before carrying along on the conveyor. Run for four and a half minutes, the hot test includes pressures and temperatures as you'd expect, but also an electronic stethoscope that compares the noises coming from inside with a software library of what's expected. -
Oil changing - myths and urban legends 8 May 2005 (Forum)
Allow Oil to drain into a Tupperware Perspex Jug - use only perspex as other plastics react with the old oil and particles travel back through the draining oil and attack the Big-End Bearings. 6. Whilst Oil is draining run around car 15 times in a Morris Dancing Outfit with the special Subaru bells attached to shoes. 7. Remove Oil Filter by unscrewing anti-clockwise 5 times, then clockwise 2 times, continue until filter is free ..... failure to do this will result in the new Filter not filling up with Oil on start-up. 8. -
Home trading questions 15 Dec 2004 (Forum)
ve identified an opportunity in the more unusual or slightly higher mileage fleet cars (basically the stuff the independent garages don?t want on their forecourts). From about £500 to £2500. I?ve ?dry run? it with a couple of cheapies successfully, so am raring to go. I have good Ebay feedback from my private dealings to instil confidence for customers I have set up a checklist to try to ensure I find (and disclose or repair) any faults with each car before I sell it, and an adequate accounting / stock system. -
Best van for up to £4000 please 7 Sep 2004 (Forum)
The front wheels locked for no apparent reason (tyre marks on the road bear testament to this) and the van screached to a halt - from around 40 mph. The engine was running perfectly and the clutch and box seemed to want to propel the vehicle forward, but it was as if though someone had built an invisable wall in front of the van, which it couldn't shift. The van was stopped dead on the road (facing uphill I might add) and even releasing the handbrake wouldn't let it roll backwards. -
Dealership Woes... 17 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Not only that, but I've had to visit the dealership 6 times so far, so that's 350-odd miles on the car (vehicle running costs are listed at 51p/mile, so it ain't cheap either) and a good 12 or so hours of my time wasted, if not more. The annoying thing is, the car was perfect before I ever let the dealer near it. -
Transcontinental road trip 30 Nov 2003 (Forum)
However the city's smog problem has been significantly reduced following the recent mandate for all the taxis to run on LPG. Furthermore we had to grapple with an awesome exchange rate of 1,725,000 Turkish lira to the Euro. A full tank of diesel was 100 million lira. That sounds like a lot of money. I have never signed a credit card slip showing 100 million of any currency before. -
Totting Up Ban appeal advice 15 Mar 2024 (Forum)
My children attend different early years and alternative education provisions that are a drive away, not connected by public transport also. And not possible without both of us doing separate runs. No family support or grandparent help locally etc etc. I have read proving 'hardship' needs to be extraordinary- not just its inconvenient, how hard does one have to go? no wage=no mortgage paid=repo/ order? -
Hit parked car (maybe), left scene, but reported 1 Jan 2024 (Forum)
I didn’t stop, panicked a bit, drove a couple more streets further on my journey, stopped, looked at the damage got back in and completed the journey to the car hire place. Once there I told them about the run-in with the bollard and they charged me the full £1000 excess. I was of course very annoyed with myself and not a little embarrassed. I had a very sleepless night last night worrying about the incident, particularly as it wasn’t totally clear in my mind whether the incident had actually played out as I thought, or whether this was wishful thinking and I had actually hit a parked car. -
MG 4 EV - Finance showing against VRM - but no Finance had 27 Nov 2022 (Forum)
(maybe 1 letter or number out) But why haven't Santander Picked up on the fact that they have lent money against a VRM that cant have matched the Make and model of the actual financed car. If they had run a check on my Reg they would have seen it was a black Audi SQ5 at the time not whatever the financer had bought ! They have said they need to speak to the original selling dealer (if they are still trading that is) Then they need to speak to the person that signed the agreement before they can remove the marker against my Reg, even though now they have a 2 year old agreement against a 2 week old brand new vehicle, that they are now showing a financial interest in ! -
What used family car? Too much choice is a curse.. 29 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Must-have’s / preferences · Gearbox – Must be automatic · Practicality - Decent passenger and boot space to cope with demands of family-life, and clobber for family holidays. · Low running costs - Reasonable fuel economy, insurance, road tax and service/maintenance costs i.e. we can rule out the supercars! · Body type - Five door hatchback/saloon/estate as I’m not convinced by SUV’s in terms of cost, space or ride quality, and not keen on MPVs. -
Shopping for auntie dear. 3 Sep 2020 (Forum)
The Kia Venga is again passed by for its styling, he wouldn’t even sit in it. The related Hyundai was also ignored. I’m fast running out of options. No to the Yaris, no to the Mazda 2 and no to the gorgeous Suzuki Swift I found. Next up the Peugeot 2008 which at last drew a smile. It’s the right size, it’s comfy, it looks good to her eye and it uses a simple and well regarded engine and a robust torque converter gearbox. -
From the Mgrover.org forum - Chinese Anti corrosion Be Afraid. 27 Feb 2020 (Forum)
With their high-energy consumption, their use of heavy metals, and their creation of substantial solid and liquid waste streams, these processes are increasingly running up against ever-stricter environmental requirements. With a trend of more environment-friendly, cost-effective, high-quality and user-friendly pretreatment technology, Henkel launched Bonderite M-NT 1820 thin film pretreatment, a revolutionary technology that is viewed as an alternative to the traditional phosphating pretreatment. -
Peugeot 508 Sw 2.0 HDi 16v - 508SW 2.0 HDi 16v Random Stalling at Idle. 27 May 2019 (Forum)
So I cleaned everything out and reassembled. Used the Peugeot Planet tool to reset everything and did the actuator tests etc.. Car is running fine at the moment but only time will tell.. I did notice when its at idle every 30 secs or so you can hear and feel the air flap open and close does this exactly 5 times in a row like open close wait a sec open close wait a sec 5 times then idles perfect for approx. 30 secs then does the 5 open close cycle again. suspect this is the EGR Valve Left the car at idle for about 30 with the Peugeot planet connect. -
2015 Peugeot 308 1.6 BlueHDI - Judder - Clutch and DMF replaced under warranty 24 May 2018 (Forum)
It was however, a great price, being pretty much the cheapest BlueHDI 120 Allure in the UK. On the short test run that I gave it, the car drove great, but I'm only talking 5 miles of continuous driving so not an in depth test drive. I was happy to do a deal though. After driving it a few weeks I couldn't help but notice a slight judder when pulling off in 1st gear. -
Seat Leon 1.4 TSI - First 10 weeks. 18 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Did about 37,500 miles in it and never had a problem other than a broken front spring, probably the run flats to blame for that. Averaged a genuine calculated 48 mpg over that time. I was a very happy BMW owner. With the wife being temporarily retired we had no need for 2 diesels in the house thus a petrol was the engine of choice. -
any disk brake equipped - Coke can for brake disks 15 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Other wheel is chocked and the engine run in second gear. (higher gear might have been better but wasn't sure the diff would like it.) Coke (or beer) can top/bottom (or whole thing crushed) is forced against the disc rim. Whole can crushed has more material but is a bit grabby and top or bottom is probably safer. -
Hit and drive off accident A406/A105 - Help 23 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Of course, the camera would have to face the right way. How can I prove anything? Careless driving and hit and run? There are tyres marks on my car, right side. There is my indicator light broken into multiple pieces where the accident happened. I would believe that my tyres would left marks on the road. Any help really welcome. -
Dealer not giving car back ! 21 May 2013 (Forum)
Which I was patient with at first as Id had little time to get to the garage myself on the days he was free ,so I got him to do half of the work for £200 just enough so I could drive it aorund legally, and agreed to do £200 of the work later, nothing which was documented, regretably. Anyway come september, my insurance was running out and tax as well at the same time, and the old bmw broke down. I had the waterpump fixed a week before so knew it was something to do with that. I paid £80 already to have it replaced. I was fed up of fixing the waterpump system some way or other with it leaking etc, so I decided to sell it.
