Diesels falling apart 14 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Last month we had a Vectra 1.9 D (2005 or 6, can't remember) engine totally AWOL at 100k (it was a taxi) and a similar age Mondeo TDCI with broken up fuel pump at 60k. No wonder there are some cheap s/hand cars about. My little bit of advice to diesel owners - longlife servicing WRECKS your car. Current oil and filter technology is not up to 20k changes. -
diesel pump timing/turbo questions 30 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Can anyone please tell me the symptoms (more noise, loss of power etc) of a diesel injection pump with the wrong timing (too far advanced or retarded) I have 2 rover 218 cars, one has the citroen 1.9 non turbo engine, the other has the citroen 1.7 turbo diesel engine. They are both noisy (diesel clatter) when cold, but when warm, the 1.9 quietens down, but the 1.7 is still very clattery at idle and under load. also the 1.7 has no bottom end power until the turbo starts boosting. the 1.9 has a lot more bottom end power, but obviously is not as lively at the top end due to lack of a turbo. -
Peugeot 306 - Pug 306 1.9td rough running, white smoke etc... 29 Apr 2010 (Forum)
My 97 306 1.9td started running rough and smoking a little on my way home the other day, it was then hard to start and the level of smoke had increased as had the rough running. A mechanic friend took a look and thought it to be contaminated fuel ( he poured a bit on the floor, chucked a match on it, and it went up instantly) I have definatley only put diesel in it so my only thought would be that the fuel that i put in was dodgy from the pumps - tesco said they have not had any other complaints. -
Fuel Consumption (again) 17 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Well further to various discussions on the subject, I decided to try out using some Millers diesel additive with my regular fill up with Supermarket diesel in my Scenic. Normally I get low 40s mpg. Well I was proud as punch when, just before I went to fill it again, that my trip computer was telling me that I had averaged 49mpg! -
Anyone Know How To Drain An Astra? 28 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I've looked through the "back room" stuff ("Petrol in a diesel car" and "Petrol into diesel don't go", etc) but - apart from giving me a good laugh and making me feel less of a chump - I still don't know the best way to go about it. Is draining from beneath possible, or is there likely to be a valve in the tank that requires a vacuum applied by the engine before fuel can flow? -

Citroen Xsara Picasso (2000 - 2010) - 04 1.6 Hdi Non-starter P0087, P1113, P1351 19 Nov 2012 (Forum)
s probably doing something. I guess that has fixed the P1351 code. But still wouldn't start. I added a gallon of fresh diesel and bled some out of the bottom of the Delphi fuel filter which looked perfect. It fired up for a few seconds then died again. I guess the P0087 & P1113 codes mean a fault in the HP pump, fuel filter, fuel injectors or HP fuel sensor on the common rail. -

Citroen C5 2003 - Citroen Poor Starting 5 Dec 2014 (Forum)
The problem seems worse in extreme temperatures i.e. very hot or very cold. Dont'know alot about diesel engines but seems like poor compression? Fuel starvation? Fuel pump seals? Once the engine is started it drives perfectly...... All suggestions welcome. Thanks. -

Ford - All - Ford Endura DE 1.8 non-start 14 Nov 2011 (Forum)
This at first did not achieve anything, BUT then a split was spotted in a small hose on the drivers side of the block. It was taken off, and when cranking fuel started to sputter from it. The end was snipped off, and it was re-attached to the spigot. Started first go. :o) I can only assume that was a diesel supply/return line, and the split had caused an air lock/fuel to return to the tank. -

gremlins in trooper enigine! 11 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Also if the hand fuel pump in the engine bay is tried before cranking it is soft for the first two or three pumps before it becomes stiff, suggesting possibly that the fuel is running back? It is fine to start any other time, just has bother when left overnight, or for a long period. -
Vauxhall Vectra B - Vectra B starting issue 17 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Turns out its a fuel issue, i dont know a great deal about motors but there has been a pump system fitted along the fuel pipe i presume, situated under the bonnet at the top of the engine(under the wipers) which includes a manual bulb type pump. a mobile mechanic told me to manually pump this to prime the diesel to the engine, which works to an extent. so decided to drop it in with my regular mechanic who suggests its the fuel pump drawing in air and its too expensive to repair on an old car. im wondering a) why was this not an issue on cold starts ? -

VW Sharan 1.9 TDI 1999 - VW Sharan 1.9 TDI fuel smell making us ill :-( 22 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Since i bought it, the vw every so often has been giving off like an unburnt/exhaust diesel smell which is coming into the cab and making us feel sick. So far I have got the garage to:- 1. change the cabin/pollen, air, fuel, oil filters and oil. 2. checked the mpv underside, including exhaust for any issues - none found!
