  • fully synthetic oil prices 28 Sep 2001 (Forum)
Found an alternative supply of this stuff at a price somewhat less than the stratospheric levels charged in retail car accesories shops. It's called Castrol CONSTAB PS - 10W/40 fully synthetic - £43 plus VAT for a 25 litre drum. Available from the likes of Lubricant/Central heating oil distributors and normally supplied to Police Authorities ( hence the name, I suppose...)

  • Parking sensors, front and rear 14 Mar 2009 (Forum)
If that is so then why don't they give an alarm signal when crawling slowly in traffic when the car in front is approached or has the speed of the car something to do with it? Am I being ultra thick and missing something that is so obvious I cannot see the wood for the trees?

  • Will an Audi remap degrade the engine? 13 Mar 2017 (Ask HJ)
I've been doing some research on Audi remaps. Is this going to degrade the engine in any way and why do you think superchips are probably the best option?

  • Why is diesel more expensive than petrol? 8 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Just what heating oil has to do with it I do not know and as for getting less diesel from a barrel of crude than petrol I am in disbelief.

  • Mercedes Benz E-Class W124 - Merc diesel heater stuck on HOT 28 Mar 2010 (Forum)
Auto transmission. Has Aircon (but not functional for many years due to leaking pump) Problem -  the heating controls don't allow the temperature to be set. When engine is at operating temperature, heater puts out maximum heat regardless of settings.  Problem evident once last year and disappeared before diagnosed.
  • Rover 400 1.6 Electrical Fault Mystery 16 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Recently bought a 98 Rover 400 1.6l for a run around but its beggining to drive me nuts. Heater control worked only at max (common prob 4 these) so thought to check the heating fan resistor which I discovered had been removed at some point. Am still to buy the resistor but now the electricals are playing tricks on me. Keeps blowing Fuse # 13 (Circuit : Engine cooling fan, wing mirrors and of cause, Internal Heating) Have looked everywhere for a short circuit but cant figure it out.

  • HELLLLPPP!! (Overheating Focus) 14 May 2001 (Forum)
After driving about 80m each way today, with the aircon on Full Cold, Fan setting 1 or 2,(ambient temp 25C), I tried to put some heat on tonight. Within a few mins the water temp went into the red, and would only go down if I fiddled with the heat/fan/aircon controls. Eventually I had to abandon ship, just short of home, and get some cold water to refill the system, which had gone down, but was not completely empty.
  • JB Weld - Testing High Temp Epoxy 1 Jun 2023 (Forum)
JB Weld test pieces used previously (and therefore high temp cured) were compared with Bondite epoxy, No failures in any samples during a maximum of 40 minutes heating. Superior heat resistance of JB Weld over Bondite is thus uncomfirmed ATPIT, (would require higher temperatures) but Bondite is a “fast” epoxy (4 mins) so gives insufficient working time and is probably weaker.
  • Audi A4 - Rear end crash 3 Jan 2015 (Forum)
I hit the car in front at around 30mph on a 60mph road, The impact was enough to completely write off both cars. The front car fled the scene and my family ended up in A&E for four hours for mainly minor injuries.
  • Jaguar XF - Shuddering steering wheel when braking 13 Feb 2018 (Forum)
I use a guy who has set up a mobile garage, he used to be a mechanic at a premium brand dealership for many years.  I took the car for a drive with him to see and he said I needed new front pads and discs changed.  He fitted Pagid pads and discs on both front wheels. The shaking stopped for a while but now has started up again.

  • What are the requirements for a "trade terms" sale 29 May 2015 (Forum)
Hi I bought a car from a used car dealer. When we negotiated price I haggled and we agreed £200 less than the windscreen price. Very soon after collecting the car I found out it has a faulty engine. I took the car straight back but they didn't want to know.
  • ABS, and EBD 23 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Just a little post to extoll the virtues of these systems, I had cause to use them today whilst turning as I entered a roundabout and saw a car that I had not noticed. It was of course totally my fault, I washed the windscreen at the wrong time and hence didn't see the oncoming car. :-( Anyway, they work brilliantly, the Accord pulled up quickly in mid-turn with a minimum of fuss, to be honest, I think the driver of the other car got the biggest shock as I had been approaching quite quickly.
