Access to Luton airport drop off zone etc 7 Mar 2016 (Forum)
On exit from this drop off-drivers are then taken on a wide scenic route around the old long stay car park alongside the run way, the fastest only exit being back up the road towards the main M1 roundabout or to the city centre if by remote chance you might wish to go there( nobody did). WHEN IS THIS RUBBISH BUILDING WORK/ROAD WORK GOING TO STOP?... -
Skoda Roomster - 500 mile Report 15 Dec 2015 (Forum)
I'm coming to terms with non PSA control layout, though I keep twisting the indicator stalk to turn lights on or off. Seated 5 without trouble for short run from LHR to hotel but I think middle seat occupant got a short straw. Boot swallowed all that was asked of it. Lunch today was at Hampton Court. Return home to Northampton via Reading to put family on train home to Plymouth. -
Mazda 6 - Diesel Particulate Filter Issues [Mazda 6] 4 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Should I; avoid the car like the plague get it regenned again and then avoid 6th gear, hoping for another 18 months before needing it regenned again replace the DPF with official parts – looks like this’ll be about £1,600 to sort remove the DPF – it’s a 2006 model, so I’m not sure if it actually needs it, there's potentially also MOT issues that we could run into down the line get the DPF properly cleaned out – there’s a chap near Avonmouth who offers this service but I’m not sure whether this is guaranteed to sort resolve the DPF issue? -
Ford focus 1.6 Zetec - Thermostat jumping to red and back again 26 Apr 2015 (Forum)
Whilst the garage were changing it they informed me that the water pump was leaking and duly changed it. 5 days later and I was doing its first decent run after the work and whilst driving on the motorway at 70-80 mph I noticed that the temp gauge was at the max high. I immediately slowed down and looked to pull in at the services. Strangely the gauge dropped to the mid range but then thirty seconds later jumped high again. -
MINI Hatch 5-door '57 reg - Return or reject? 10 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Send the car back, or get it MOT'd and send them a bill? Any help or advice would be appreciated, as I am quickly running out of money with recovery costs/train fares/Insurance/solicitors fees etc. Thanks :) -
Any - Cheap way improve fuel economy by 10% ? 24 Sep 2014 (Forum)
The 'benefit' was also demonstrated, albeit with a milder version, on my 8 year old, 100 kg heavier, 5 door hatchback (improving from 38 mpg to 43 mpg) running from 85,000 to 100,000 miles before part exchanging it for the new car in Sept 2011. In both cases I was the sole driver and my driving patterns were very similar from the same quarter of one year to the next. -
Ford Ka - cooling system and overheating 29 Dec 2013 (Forum)
Also this car has a warning light for overheating, however it means that the car can end up operating at a high temperature when there is a problem and the driver is unaware until the system finally runs out of coolant and the light comes on. Otherwise the car works well but looking after the cooling system should be a heads up for all owners. I hope this was useful if you have been having problems with your Ka. -
Citroen Berlingo Multispace 1.6 HDI 2010 - Starting&Throttle Issues. Main dealer can't fix it 5 Jun 2013 (Forum)
As the day goes on it struggles and sometimes can take 10 goes to start. When car has been running for a good time the throttle sometimes does not pick up. The engine will be ticking over, put foot on throttle and nothing happens. If you try and pull away it will obviously stall. Because i can usually tell when its going to happen i can slowly tease the rev's up with some gently persuasion before trying to pull away. -
Skoda Superb - A cautionary tale about DSG Gearboxes 2 Nov 2012 (Forum)
RAC man drove away as he's probably got a full day's work rescuing Skoda drivers. iPad battery almost flat so won't be able to do many emails but, fortunately, I filled up with diesel last night so can sit in the car with engine running, heater on, watching Ugly Betty for hours. Skoda lasted 33 miles. Expect to be towed to the office sometime later this month. I hope the hire car is a Subaru. ......" -
1.2 TSI vs 1.6 CR 105 - Skoda Fabia - advice to a colleague 6 Aug 2012 (Forum)
She said the dealer made no effort to try anything else. is the dealer trying to offload a model with an engine that no one wants? "But how come my Fiat engine is still running after 9 years?". I told her that diesel engines are getting so complex now that they are prone to going wrong more frequently and dont have this ridiculous Diesel Pariculate FIlters. I told her that I have a 61 plate 1.4 TDCi fiesta and i said to her that I will only use it for motorway driving and it will probably be my last diesel ever. -
Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 01 1.2 16v. cuts out whilst accelerating from idle 21 Feb 2012 (Forum)
It mostly occurs when pulling away from idle at junctions, roundabouts etc. after 2 or 3 metres the engine shuts down for half a second or so with all the ignition lights showing on the dash, then fires up again and then it runs as normal until possibly it does it at the next stopping point. I am only doing 5-10 mph when it happens. It also ocurs when stopping and reversing slowly (say into a parking bay). This time because the travel is so slow it cuts out but does not fire up again. -
PEUGEOT 407 PETROL 2.0 54 PLATE - Misfire and "Depollution System Failure" warning. 7 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Also the revs at idle are slightly higher than normal. Then when I drive for a few minutes and the engine has begun to warm everything is running smooth. Hence why it has been ignored for so long. (No warnings lights at all) My car went for an MOT but failed on the emissions and with a new software update from Peugeot the problem was resolved. -
Vauxhall Astra 1.9 CDTI SRi 150 - 08/08 Vauxhall Astra 1.9 CDTI SRi Gearbox Failure 9 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Any advice would be greatly received, without any VX contribution I'm looking at a bill running into thousands which I don't think is fair if they cant build a car to last 3 and a bit years. So as you can imagine I'm keen to look at all options. Thanks in advance. -
Ford Mondeo - Mondeo 2003 2.0 TDCI fuel problem, 2 May 2011 (Forum)
i managed to get the car towed back to a yard and take off what was a suspected fuel filter problem then put a air hose through it to clean it out, replaced this and tried to get the car running. no joy as the fuel looks to not being pulled through. so put the air hose through the petrol cap entry and blast the petrol through the filter while the middle connector on filter was off and diesel streamed out very well. -

KIA Sorento SUV (2003 - 2009) - Kia Sorento Manual Gearbox Failure at 60k miles 21 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Dad has had various cars over 40 odd years of driving and has never needed a new gearbox or clutch, in spite of running several cars to over 100,000 miles. He drives with mechanical sympathy and doesn't abuse the clutch or gearbox. He managed to get the tyres on the car to last to 50,000 miles! I don't feel that it is reasonable to have to replace a gearbox on a five-year old, 60,000 mile, Kia serviced car. -
citroen saxo 1.1 - Insurance 25 Jun 2010 (Forum)
(Q) Policy is a fully comprensive and been totally honest with insurance from the get go, however, just feel insurances always look for a way not to pay out if anything did happen! Is there anything they are not telling me etc? (Q) if I have to let the policy run (another 10 months) will my son build his no claims bonus with being the main driver? (Q) If he was to be involved in a accident, would it affect my no claims bonus (I have a full NCB but not used on this vehicle?) -
Leasing vs Purchasing - no names please!! 18 Feb 2010 (Forum)
But its a cost I can afford and choose to do. I long to be one of these drivers who keeps their car for 10 years, runs it into the ground until it owes them nothing. But I think I would get bored too quickly! Having said all that, I have looked at various leasing sites and see that I could pay roughly what I am currently paying just now and get a comparable car. -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 96 1.3 efi endura e ohv stalling and acceleration 9 Feb 2010 (Forum)
> engine hesitates, jumps and splutters on acceleration. > i got through half a tank of fuel on a 70 mile run, taking it no higher than 4000 rpm. the car has only done 40,000 miles from new and had a service every year and its been very well looked after. looking through the cars history, i think its had this problem since 20,000 miles. this is an intermitent problem so its hard to find out exactly what it is but to try and fix it, it has had the following work done, > new speed sensor at 20,000 > diognostics with nothing showing up > services > new iacv at 30,000 > another set of spark plugs last week as this idleing problem is causing excess carbon > throttle housing removed by garage and body and valve cleaned (cant remember exactly what else he said he cleaned) > the butterfly valve and idle adjusted last week by same garage.
